2006 Cleveland Browns Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/31/2006

What was going through Van Gogh's mind when he cut off his ear, and why cut off that ear? When your microwave is defrosting something, why does it suddenly stop even though there's time left? Who would win a steel cage match between Brigitte Nielsen, Tyra Banks, Janice Dickinson, and Tawny Kitaen? Who is Charlie Frye?

2006 Chicago Bears Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/31/2006

I believe that Chicago has the talent and system to be a legit Super Bowl contender. However, they're missing a clear No. 1 quarterback, a No. 2 receiver, cheerleaders and both karma and chemistry. Both of them blew town after the Bears' whirlwind past seven months.

2006 Pittsburgh Steelers Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/31/2006

Pittsburgh has had a checkered offseason since hauling in the organization's fifth Super Bowl Trophy last February in Detroit. In a sense, it was as if as soon as they slid on that ring for the thumb they got mugged. By a 62-year-old lady.

2006 Washington Redskins Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/30/2006

Am I being seduced by the almighty dollar yet again? Has Daniel Snyder, the dorky, petulant little owner of the Washington Racial Slurs, again forged an Era of Good Feelings by burning money on over-privileged, emotionally underdeveloped psychopaths? We will see, my friend, we will see. But if I'm not mistaken the Redskins have the type of team that is tailor-made for a deep playoff run.

2006 Cincinnati Bengals Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/30/2006

Well, well, well. It looks like Carson Palmer's performance may have punched some holes into my theory about the Cincinnati Bengals this year. The Bengals pure passer returned from a potentially crippling knee injury in just eight short months and looked outstanding on Monday night in a preseason game against Green Bay.

2006 Philadelphia Eagles Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/30/2006

After having their 2005 season hijacked by injuries and He Whose Name We Will Not Speak, Philadelphia is poised for a bounce-back year.

2006 Baltimore Ravens Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/30/2006

In a league where preseason unpredictability is as common as assault-and-battery charges or breathing, the Baltimore Ravens may be the biggest X-Factor team in the AFC. Well, them and the Miami Dolphins.

2006 Dallas Cowboys Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/28/2006

Hey, did you hear about some wide receiver named Terrell Owens? Did you know what Owens had for breakfast today? Did you know T.O. likes unicorns and spits on poor people when he sees them on the street? Not much overkill going on in the media about a guy who has played in exactly eight of the last 21 possible games since Jan. 1, 2005.

2006 Detroit Lions Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/28/2006

Jon Kitna. Mike Martz. Roy Williams. Rod Marinelli. Matt Millen. Carlos Rogers. There are a lot of guys with something to prove in the Detroit Lions organization this year. This will be the season where we find out what kind of heart - if any - this club has.

2006 Green Bay Packers Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/28/2006

The Pack could bounce back, but I don't expect big things out of Green Bay in Brett Favre's swan song season. That being said, if he and some of his cohorts could tap into that old-time magic for virgin coach Mike McCarthy, then there is clearly talent available for a surprise season.

2006 Minnesota Vikings Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/28/2006

A recent Forbes study indicated that the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area placed second on a list of America's Drunkest Cities. Looking back, we should have known that Koren Robinson didn't stand a chance.

2006 New England Patriots Preview: The Wounded Beast
by Robert Ferringo - 08/25/2006

During their four-year mini-dynasty, the most distinguishing characteristic of the New England Patriots was that they were cunning beasts that could smell fear and desperation.

2006 Miami Dolphins Preview: Will Trendy Team Meet Expectations?
by Robert Ferringo - 08/25/2006

A general rule in gambling is to beware of the Trendy Team. The public usually gets it in its mind that this team or that team is going to have a "breakout" year or be a "sleeper" this season. The trouble is, when everyone thinks that about a crew they're no longer a "sleeper". They're shackled by the heavy, cold steel grip of expectations.

2006 New York Jets Preview
by Robert Ferringo - 08/25/2006

The New York Jets have the biggest inferiority complex this side of Frank Stallone. Playing in the shadow of the Giants, the Big Apple's favorite son, the Jets have forever been battling their cross-town rival for the hearts and minds of the region.

2006 Buffalo Bills Preview: Glory Days Long Gone
by Robert Ferringo - 08/25/2006

Glory days. There's nothing better than the Glory days. But there's also nothing worse than people stuck pining for those days once they're gone.

2006 Carolina Panthers Preview: Super Bowl or Bust
by Robert Ferringo - 08/23/2006

But it's not that easy. It's never that easy. This is the NFL. You don't just show up and put teams down like diseased animals. Carolina faces a daunting schedule and, as the preseason favorites, will face the best effort of every team that they square off with.

2006 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview: Playing The Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 08/23/2006

Tampa Bay won 11 games and a division title last year. They feature a strong running game and one of the league's toughest defenses. So for me to say that they won't finish over .500 may seem like I'm taking the John Kerry approach to handicapping. But there is a method to my madness.

2006 New Orleans Saints Preview: Picking Up The Pieces
by Robert Ferringo - 08/23/2006

But the Saints have entered a new Era. Actually, Eras. The Sean Payton Era and Reggie Bush Era are intertwined, and the pair has joined forces to take the organization and city by storm (D'oh!). Yet the most critical import for the Cajuns will be new quarterback Drew Brees.

2006 New York Giants Preview
by T.O. Whenham - 08/16/2006

I spent a day at the Giants camp in Albany last week. A few things stood out. First, backup QB Jared Lorenzen is a giant. I'm not a small guy, but he is literally as wide as I am tall. He couldn't complete a pass while I was watching him, but he'll be handy if all of the linemen get food poisoning or some other ailment.

2006 Houston Texans Preview: New Day On The Farm
by Robert Ferringo - 08/11/2006

Listen, I know you're going to think I'm high. (And who's to say that I'm not?) But just hear me out. The Houston Texans fit the pathology of a breakout team in the National Football League.

2006 Tennessee Titans Preview: Tough Times in Tennessee
by Robert Ferringo - 08/11/2006

Bitter feud aside, this offseason was actually a highly productive one for the Titans. They acquired several key free agents that make them immediately more viable, while also securing the future of the franchise by drafting Vince Young and LenDale White. All in all, I expect a much more competitive club to be fielded by Jeff Fisher.

2006 Atlanta Falcons Preview: Make Or Break Year For Dirty Birds
by Robert Ferringo - 08/11/2006

This year I believe Atlanta will fall somewhere in between. I love their dedication to the run (top two in the league for two years) and I'm a big fan of what they've done to restructure the defense. Running the ball and playing good defense, as we all know, is a formula for success in the NFL.

2006 Jacksonville Jaguars Preview: Dumb and Dumber
by Robert Ferringo - 08/11/2006

Head coach Jack Del Rio has already had his moments at the helm. Remember the whole "my-punter-almost-cut-his-leg-off-with-my-axe" situation? Now he's got Tice and Campo in his ear on the sideline. I can see it now; "Psst. Hey Jack, it's Dave. Mike thinks it's a good idea to punt on second down. It'll work. We'll take everyone by surprise."

2006 Indianapolis Colts Preview: Run Towards Title, Away From Tragedy
by Robert Ferringo - 08/11/2006

The Colts are the clear favorite to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Tough to argue with. Hopefully a fresh start and clean state will be a boon to their psyche. However, I don't think there's a chance that they are as dominant in the regular season.

2006 NFL Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 08/09/2006

Since we've declared the start of Betting Season - known to Republican sympathizers and hacks as "Football Season" - I think it is the appropriate time for some fearless 2006 NFL predictions.

2006 Raiders: Commitment to Mediocrity
by Robert Ferringo - 08/05/2006

But over the last two years this team has been a bunch of quitters. They get behind, and then they stop playing in the second half. That’s why they’ve been so bad ATS. I think Shell will succeed in instilling some spirit and discipline in them, meaning they’ll at least fight to the bell.

2006 Chargers: Stay Classy San Diego
by Robert Ferringo - 08/04/2006

But instead serving as an oasis of repose, San Diego was the site of one of this offseason’s more volatile feuds. At the center of the menacing vibrations were general manager A.J. Smith and head coach Marty Schottenheimer. The two power-mongers went toe-to-toe regarding the offensive and defensive leaders on the team, with each man scoring one victory.

2006 Chiefs: Happy Hunting
by Robert Ferringo - 08/04/2006

Over the past four years Kansas City has put on an offensive display that rivals anything the National Football League has ever seen. However, their success was limited to just one playoff game during that period. They could crack any scheme set to stop them, but in the end they could not solve the defense of Father Time.

2006 Broncos: Can We Make A Buck On The Broncos?
by Robert Ferringo - 08/03/2006

They seem like the quintessential Super Bowl team and a tremendous value at 15-to-1 to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. They have all of the tools and the talent to be considered a serious contender. But there is still something shady about the loser of last year’s AFC Championship Game.
Read more about Denver Broncos Preview.

2006 Seahawks: Seagulls Eating Alka Seltzer
by Robert Ferringo - 08/02/2006

Oh. Wait. That’s not what you meant by Super Bowl Hangover? You meant the one that says that the past 11 Super Bowl losers didn’t even make their conference championship game the next year. Right. I gotcha. I can vouch for that one as well.

2006 49ers: Still Sucking By The Bay
by Robert Ferringo - 07/31/2006

As part of his insufferable on-air shtick, ESPN’s Chris Berman picks Buffalo and San Francisco to meet and battle in the Super Bowl each year. In 2006, the Bills and the 49ers will be fighting all right – fighting for the title of Worst Team in the National Football League.

2006 Arizona Cardinals Preview: Fight or Flight?
by Robert Ferringo - 07/28/2006

That’s right. Exactly one year ago today I was telling you to stay away from Arizona. I’m not exactly Nostradamus for seeing that one coming. After all, they’re the Cardinals. That being said, I still saw a lot of folks with the birds pegged for the playoffs. Instead, they fared about as well as Nicky Santoro out in the desert.
