2007 NFL Draft Grades
by Robert Ferringo - 05/01/2007

What type of two-bit hack sportswriter would I be if I didn't have some 2007 NFL Draft grades for this year's draft? I think it's actually a law in 47 of the 50 states - if you have a column on a sports Web site you're legally bound to make knee-jerk reactions to what teams did during the weekend of the amateur meat market. If you don't, the terrorists have won.

2007 NFL Draft: Potential Trades
by T.O. Whenham - 04/24/2007

We're in the misinformation phase of the lead-up to the NFL Draft. Teams, for the most part, have a pretty good idea of what they want to do, so their job is to lie publicly so that no one else can be sure of their intentions. It's a silly process, but so is most of what goes on between the end of the season and draft day. Besides, just because something is silly doesn't mean it can't be fun to watch. Potential trades are one area of the draft that is full of misdirection by coaches and intense speculation by fans and the media.

2007 NFL Mock Draft
by Robert Ferringo - updated 04/20/2007

My basic idea is simple: first and foremost I want to entertain you while you're wasting time at a job that you probably resent. And second, I want to get you to look at your team and other teams around the NFL from a different perspective. I'm not trying to pacify my readers or fill their heads with pie-in-the-sky ideas. And to be honest, I don't care how many first round picks I get right. Mock drafts are like setting up dominos; if one misfires then the whole setup is a waste.

The Team I Would Field From This NFL Draft
by T.O. Whenham - 04/11/2007

The NFL Draft is finally getting close. After months of speculation and list making we are almost at the point where we will have all of our questions answered. We'll know what trades will be made (likely not as many as we want), which teams improve dramatically (not the Lions - Matt Millen still works for them) and what truly head-scratching picks will be made. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the draft by this point in April.

2007 NFL Draft Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 03/27/2007

I think the only thing harder than making selections in the 2007 NFL Draft is trying to make 2007 NFL Draft predictions. Making predictions on the NFL's annual meat market is nearly impossible without some inside information or a terrific sense of smell (for the B.S.). And even then it's hard to do with any sense of certainty or conviction.

Players That Helped their Cases at the Combine
by T.O. Whenham - 02/26/2007

The NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis is way more interesting to watch on TV than it probably should be. It's better than any reality show that they have ever made. I'm also pretty sure that it's a heck of a lot more fun to watch it than it is to be in it.

Possible 2007 NFL Draft Bargains
by T.O. Whenham - 02/22/2007

The closer we get to the NFL draft, the more there is to read about it. You could spend the next two months doing nothing but reading mock drafts, and you would never have to read the same draft twice if you didn't want to. Most of those drafts, though, and indeed most of everything else that is written too, is about the first and second rounds of the NFL Draft.

2007 NFL Draft: Potential Busts
by T.O. Whenham - 02/20/2007

Ryan Leaf. Ki-Jana Carter. Tony Mandarich. Tim Couch. Steve Emtman. All those guys, and dozens of others like them, are horrendous NFL draft busts. They came into the league hyped beyond belief, and they all did almost nothing to earn the millions that they were paid. For some it was injuries that stopped their progress. For others, like Leaf, it was just a case of a temperament that couldn't stand up under the pressure of the spotlight.

2007 NFL Draft Prospects
by Robert Ferringo - 02/12/2007

Mel Kiper Jr. no longer has a monopoly on ranking the 2007 NFL draft prospects. That's right, we've broken his stranglehold on meaningless predictions and senseless projections. This is a great day for speculation mongers and traders in baseless conjecture everywhere!

2007 Draft Prospects - Immediate Difference Makers
by T.O. Whenham - 02/08/2007

The most important job for NFL coaches and GMs is figuring out which 2007 draft prospects will contribute significantly and immediately. It's fun to speculate over whether JaMarcus Russell or Brady Quinn will go first overall, but history has shown us that it's likely that neither of them will start immediately, and even if they do they aren't very likely to be any good for several months. Or years.

2007 NFL Draft Bargains
by T.O. Whenham - 02/08/2007

It's sometimes easy to forget that the NFL Draft lasts longer than one round, and that very valuable and effective players can come beyond the first 15 picks. We get so caught up in figuring out who is going to go first overall, or how many quarterbacks will go in the first round, that we forget to look for the gems that lie deeper in the draft. Here's a look at 10 players that won't hear there name called in the first couple of hours of the draft, but which you might want to get familiar with because they could factor into your handicapping in years to come.
