Carroll is Right, The BCS "Stinks"
by SPORTSBETTING.COM - 11/07/2008

You really have to feel for the USC Trojans - or maybe not, but it doesn't seem to matter what they do on the field now, the BCS isn't going to get too excited.

Sure they have no excuse for the Oregon State loss back in late-September but they haven't lost since and they've shutout teams three out of the last four weeks, including a 56-0 win over Washington last week, covering as 10-point faves.

Yet the team dropped from fifth to seventh in the BCS standings, prompting coach Pete Carroll to say that the BCS "stinks."

There is nothing that the Trojans can do about their predicament except continue winning and hope the stars align-SPORTSBETTING.COM has USC listed at +600 to win the BCS championship this year.

Next up on the sked for the Trojans is a Pac-10 battle against the California Golden Bears with USC listed as a big 22.5-point home favorite.

Despite dominating as of late, the Trojans haven't been very profitable against Cal.

USC has gone 6-1 straight up in the last seven games against the Bears, but have only managed to cover the spread three times (3-3 ATS in those games). Worth noting is the fact these two have gone "Under" the total in their last four meetings.

The Trojans have been rolling up the score on teams with regularity, as they essentially have to post big scores to try and get the attention of the BCS.

With their current situation, bettors are all over them to continue to run up the big scores, with 82% of the players at SPORTSBETTING.COM wagering on USC.

No. 1 teams haven't had an easy go of it this year as witnessed by the likes of Oklahoma, USC and Texas.

Alabama is the current No. 1 team in the nation; will its reign at the top be short-lived too?

The Crimson Tide are prepping for a key SEC game against conference-rival LSU in the Bayou this Saturday with 'Bama listed as 3.5-point road faves.

Going by historical numbers however, LSU has the edge with the Tigers going 7-1 SU the last eight games and 3-2-2 ATS.

Will Alabama make a strong case for a BCS title bid or will they follow the same script as other No. 1 teams this season?

Many of the LSU faithful will be cheering extra-hard for the Tigers as 'Bama head coach Nick Saban used to be the Tigers' bench boss, but so far Bama has the backing from 64% of the betting public.

Looking at the NFL schedule this week, we have an intriguing matchup in Chicago.

Can this year's Tennessee Titans do like the New England Patriots last year and run the table in the regular season?

Titans head coach Jeff Fisher hasn't been busted for having his cronies videotape the opposition in practice and the team hasn't been purposely running up the score but there are similarities between the two teams.

The 2007 Pats went 16-0 in the regular season, racing out to an 8-0 record ATS but ended up 10-6 ATS; this year's Titans failed to lose a game ATS for the first seven games before pushing as a 3-point home fave against the Green Bay Packers last week.

This week the Titans' opposition will consist of the Chicago Bears with Tennessee listed as a 3-point road fave.

The teams are polar opposites when it comes to the Total, set at 38.5.

Tennessee has gone 2-5-0 on the Over/Under the last seven road games while Chicago has gone 6-0-0 in its last six home games.

The betting public is still buying into the Titans' hype as 68% are wagering on Tennessee.

Have a great weekend and enjoy all the pigskin action.
