NFL Office Pool Picks - Week 14
by T.O. Whenham - 12/04/2008

There are 16 games this week, so lets try to find 16 straight up winners:

Oakland at San Diego - I wish there was a 'none of the above' option for this one. I hate pretty much everything that the Chargers have done this year. I just can't find a way to trust the Raiders and their problems, though. They have the ability to look pretty good, but no consistency at all. This one is going to be low scoring, and should favor the home team. Take the Chargers.

Jacksonville at Chicago - Jacksonville had a good chance to come back against Houston late in the game last week, but instead they let the game get away from them. That's typical of their heartless play this year. Chicago had a rough game last week, and they have their troubles, but they need a win badly, and they at least play with pride. Take the Bears.

Minnesota at Detroit - Some people are pointing to this one as the game that the Lions could win. I am not one of those people. Detroit showed last week that they can't stop an explosive runner, and that it's very easy to make them quit. Adrian Peterson will lead his team to a big win here. Take the Vikings.

Houston at Green Bay - Time to pick an underdog for once. The Texans have lots of problems, but they played a pretty solid game last week - especially Steve Slaton and Mario Williams. Both teams are running out of things to play for, but the Texans are in a better place and have the capability of a better performance here. Take the Texans.

Cincinnati at Indianapolis - Don't over think this one. The Colts were good enough to win last week despite a truly awful game by Peyton Manning. He'll be better, and they are playing a lesser opponent. That translates to another win for one of the hottest teams in the league. Take the Colts.

Atlanta at New Orleans - I was very disturbed by the end of New Orleans last game. The Saints had Tampa Bay in their sights, but Drew Brees threw two ugly interceptions to give the game away. I still don't really trust Atlanta, but they are easier to like than the Saints right now. Take the Falcons.

Philadelphia at New York Giants - I don't want to discount the distraction of the Plaxico Burress situation, but I don't think that it is particularly relevant here. If I could be sure that we would see the same Donovan McNabb as we did last week then I would have a struggle here. There is no guarantee of that, though, so New York is the clear pick. Take the Giants.

Cleveland at Tennessee - This is the easiest game of the week. Ken Dorsey is starting for the dispirited Browns. The Titans' defense will eat him alive. Take the Titans.

Miami vs. Buffalo - This will be the first regular season game to be played in Canada. That takes away Buffalo's biggest advantage here - the weather - since the game will be in a closed dome. Miami is playing much better, and they will benefit from quarterback issues in Buffalo. Take the Dolphins.

Kansas City at Denver - This is another game I wish I didn't have to play. When Denver is good they are really good. They can also be as bad as any team in the league. Kansas City is rebuilding, but it is a slow and painful process. Home field will be a big advantage in a game that could be close, or could be a blowout. Take the Broncos.

New York Jets at San Francisco - this will be a very educational game. The Jets were as hot as any team going into last week, but they played a truly terrible game at home against the Broncos. They still lead their division, so if they can win this week they will be just fine. But can they rebound? I say yes. Take the Jets.

New England at Seattle - The Patriots haven't looked their best the last few weeks. Thankfully, they can be far from their best in this one and still be the better team. The Seahawks are deeply troubled, and the only thing that will change that is the end of the year. Take the Patriots.

St. Louis at Arizona - Arizona is a big disappointment. They look to be on the way to running away with their division despite not stepping up to beat good teams when it matters all year. Luckily for them they play the furthest thing from a good team this week. The Cardinals weren't challenged by the Rams in November, and they won't be now. Take the Cardinals.

Dallas at Pittsburgh - This is the power contest of the week. Dallas is playing their best ball of the season, but they come up against a relentless defense that is at home. Both teams need this one badly, so motivation won't be a problem. The edge is small, but I give it to Pittsburgh. Take the Steelers.

Washington at Baltimore - Baltimore has been a very pleasant surprise his year. The biggest thing they have going for them is increasing confidence in their young QB, Joe Flacco. Washington is a very solid road team, and they will provide a real challenge here. In the end, though, I think Baltimore has enough to overcome the Redskins. Take the Ravens.

Tampa Bay at Carolina - This is my favorite game of the week. I like both teams, and don't think either gets enough credit for playing in a very tough division. I think both are heading to the playoffs, but I give the edge to the road team here. Carolina is feisty, but Tampa Bay has such a tough defense and a QB who hates to lose. Take the Bucs.
