When the final gun goes off in Columbus this Saturday the betting public will be hoping Penn State is still perfect…a perfect 7-0 against the spread. The Nittany Lions head into this weekend's matchup with the No. 9-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes sporting a perfect 6-0 mark against the number (and straight up) the last six times the two have met at the "Horseshoe". Getting to 7-0 ATS produces a big payday for bettors, as they are lining up behind the higher ranked Lions (ranked No. 3 nationally).
78% of the wagering volume at SPORTSBETTING.COM coming in on Joe Paterno's boys, who are currently 2-point favorites.
As we head into the weekend, this Penn State-Ohio State matchup is attracting the most wagering volume of all the college games.
The second biggest game on the NCAA schedule, in terms of wagering volume, also features a pair of Top 10 ranked teams.
The Texas Longhorns come into the week listed as the No. 1 team in the three big polls (AP, USA Today and BCS).
After big wins both SU and ATS the past two weeks (45-35 vs. Oklahoma and 56-31 against Missouri) the Longhorns get another stiff test this week against Big 12 rival, the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowboys with oddsmakers listing Texas at -12.
You have to be good to be at the top, even if it is the BCS, and Texas has justified its ranking going a perfect 7-0 both straight up and more importantly to bettors, they're also 7-0 against the spread so far in 2008.
Historically, Texas has been the way to go in this matchup as the Longhorns have an 8-4 against the spread mark vs. Oklahoma State dating back to 1996.
At home, the Longhorns are 6-0 SU and an equally solid 4-2 ATS in the last six home games against the Cowboys.
Texas looks to stay No. 1 across the board for another week and 74% of the betting public hopes they cover the 12 points in the process, as they've wagered on the home side.
Saturday's not all about college football betting as the World Series arrives in Philadelphia.
Cole Hamels got the better of Tampa Bay's Scott Kazmir in Game 1 of the World Series as the Phillies triumphed by a final of 3-2 as an underdog. The Rays bounced back in Game 2, (going off as a -163 home favorite) tying the series with a 4-2 win.
The scene now switches to the City of Brotherly love tied 1-1, with Games 3, 4 and 5 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday respectively.
Game 3 will see the Rays' Matt Garza going against Philly's old war horse Jamie Moyer.
Although sporting an 11-9 overall record, Garza hasn't been very profitable on the road in 2008 as the Rays are 6-11 when he starts away from Tropicana. The jury's out on Garza in the post season as well.
Although he was money in his last outing, a 9-1 win against the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS, he's 1-1 this postseason.
Philly's version of the Energizer Bunny, Moyer has been much more reliable for Philly going 16-7 in 2008 and with the vet on the mound at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies are a pretty solid Money line bet recently.
In Moyer's last 12 home starts, Philly bettors have profited at a rate of 8-4, in fact the Phillies have a mini three-game win streak going in Moyer's last three.
Though not quite Reggie Jackson, Moyer has been good in October, recording a solid 3-1 Money line record dating back to 2001; he has gone Under thrice in that time as well.
Talking of the Phillies, it's also a huge weekend for horse racing as the Breeder's Cup puts up $25 million over two days of racing excitement.
Thanks to injury, Big Brown won't be appearing-he's retired and been put out to stud-but thoroughbred's such as Colonel John (+600 at SPORTSBETTING.COM), who also saw a lot of betting action at the Kentucky Derby and Casino Drive (also +600) will be taking part.
The racehorse of the hour though is Curlin. Curlin is the American Racehorse of the Year for 2007 and defending Breeders' Cup Classic champ and not only is the Colt favored at Santa Anita Park, he's the odds-on favorite +200.
To celebrate the huge week of sports action, SPORTSBETTING.COM has a special 20% deposit bonus running right through Sunday. You can take advantage of the free cash on all your deposits with SPORTSBETTING.COM.
