College Basketball Betting: Championship Week
by SPORTSBETTING.COM - 03/10/2009

Selection Sunday looms, but before that can happen there is tons of great betting options and college hoops action this week.

While the power conferences have yet to get things going, Siena has taken the MAAC title, Gonzaga the WCC, Chattanooga the Southern, Morehead State the Ohio Valley, Northern Iowa the Missouri Valley, Virginia Commonwealth the Colonial Athletic, Radford the Big South and East Tennessee St. the Atlantic Sun.

The North Carolina Tar Heels finished the regular season off with a flurry, defeating archrival Duke 79-71, failing to cover at -9. Online sportsbooks reported pretty even action on this game, with the Tar Heels getting a slight edge at around 55% overall.

Not that it matters to Tyler Hansbrough and the Tar Heels; they clinched their 17th outright ACC regular season title.

UNC now sits back and relaxes before next taking the court in the quarterfinals of the ACC championship tournament where it will play the winner of Thursday's Virginia Tech-Miami game.

The Tar Heels have beaten the Hokies consistently since 1997 going 6-2 SU however; they haven't been profitable going 3-5 ATS in the same time.

Likewise UNC is 9-2 SU against Miami dating back to 1999 but is only 5-5 ATS in the same time.

The Tar Heels are listed at -175 to add an ACC conference championship to complement its ACC regular season crown.

The University of Connecticut of Huskies were the nation's consensus No. 1 ranked team last week but were overrun by North Carolina.

Still, UConn is receiving some love from bookies, listed at +250 to win the Big East.

The Pittsburgh Panthers are currently the consensus No. 2 team in the nation and are the odds-on to come out on top of the Big East tourney, listed at +175.

Over in the Big Ten, the Michigan State Spartans are seeded No. 1 going into the conference championship tourney and are the odds-on to take the title listed at +120.

Michigan St. is awaiting the winner of Thursday's Minnesota-Northwestern tilt.

The Spartans are profitable against the Golden Gophers going 16-4 SU and 11-8-1 ATS dating back to 1998.

Against the Wildcats, the story is similar as the Spartans are 18-2 SU and 12-8 ATS. Over in the Pac-10 it's a two horse race as the UCLA Bruins are seeded No. 2 in the conference tourney yet they are the odds-on to take the title listed at +120 at online sportsbook SPORTSBETTING.com.

The Washington Huskies are the top seed and are still seeing favorable odds at +250 to take the Pac-10 crown.

As far as Bubble Teams go, the Boston College Eagles are looking like they could get an invite.

With a 21-10 record SU and a 13-12-1 record ATS, BC has only gone 8-10 ATS in its last 20 games but is 12-8 SU.

Boston College has a tilt against Virginia in the opening round of the ACC tourney and hasn't fared well against the Cavaliers going 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS in its last five against Virginia.

As the top seed in Conference USA, the Memphis Tigers are perhaps one of the hottest teams going into the conference championship tournaments going 20-0 SU and 12-5-2 ATS in their last 20 games.

Memphis is also listed as an overwhelming -900 to win C-USA.

This is a great week of college basketball betting, serving as a perfect appetizer for the Big Dance starting next week.
