Orange Bowl Predictions: Stanford vs. Virginia Tech Odds and Betting Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/31/2010
“How did they get in here?” I suppose that could be the sentiment toward either of this year’s Orange Bowl teams as both Stanford and Virginia Tech have to be considered somewhat of surprise participants in one of the sport’s most prestigious bowl games. However, they will meet at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, in the Orange Bowl and the winner will claim a BCS title (though not THE BCS Title) for its faithful fans and followers.

Rose Bowl Predictions: TCU vs. Wisconsin Odds and Betting Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/30/2010
All we have heard for the last two years is how TCU and the other mid-major college football teams want a shot at the Big Boys for the Big Money. Well, this year the Horned Frogs are going to get a crack at one of the biggest boys on the block.

Fiesta Bowl Predictions: UConn vs. Oklahoma Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 12/30/2010
There is always a team that ends up in a BCS game when they truly aren’t one of the best in the nation, and this year it is the UConn Huskies. They are representing the Big East, which was just awful all season long. The Huskies were just 8-4 on the year, but they did win their final four games of the season. Can Connecticut come out and prove to the college football world that they belong? They will take on a very talented Oklahoma team that has one of the best offenses in the nation. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. EST on New Year’s Day.

Capital One Bowl Predictions: Michigan State vs. Alabama Odds and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/30/2010
For my money, the New Year’s Day Capital One Bowl in Orlando is the best non-BCS bowl this season – and actually I’d argue this Michigan State-Alabama matchup is better than the UConn-Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl. Michigan State (11-1) shared the Big Ten title with Wisconsin and Ohio State and won a school-record 11 games.

Outback Bowl Predictions: Florida vs. Penn State Odds and Betting Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/30/2010
It seems all the news surrounding the New Year’s Day Outback Bowl in Tampa between Florida (7-5) and Penn State (7-5) is about the teams’ respective coaches and not really a whole lot on the field. Of course, everyone knows by now that this will be the final game in the Florida coaching career of Urban Meyer, who announced he was stepping aside in early December.

Gator Bowl Predictions: Michigan Wolverines vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 12/29/2010
After a two-year absence, the Michigan Wolverines (7-5) return to bowl action -- they face the Mississippi State Bulldogs (8-4) in the Gator Bowl. Game time is 1:30 p.m. EST on New Year’s Day in Gainesville, Florida. This is the first time the storied programs will meet.

TicketCity Bowl Predictions: Northwestern vs. Texas Tech Odds and Picks
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/29/2010
Northwestern and Texas Tech have the same New Year’s plans and the same record, but the similarities end there. Both 7-5 teams meet in the inaugural Ticket City Bowl on New Year’s Day at noon EST. Northwestern will be looking for its inaugural bowl win. Texas Tech is shooting for its 12th bowl win and seventh since 2002.

Music City Bowl Predictions: North Carolina vs. Tennessee Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 12/29/2010
This year’s Music City Bowl features a game I would rather see on the hardwood than the turf -- North Carolina (7-5) and Tennessee (6-6) meet on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. EST in Nashville in the home of the Tennessee Titans. Surprisingly, the two programs haven’t played each other since 1961. They were supposed to play twice the next two years,

Liberty Bowl Predictions: Georgia vs. Central Florida Odds and Picks
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/29/2010
The matchup will play itself out numerous times over the college football bowl season. A team from a mid-major conference with a better record and ranking and a conference title in tow heads to a December bowl game against a big-time program from a BCS conference that is going through a down year and has suspect motivation for this lower-tier bowl game.

Sun Bowl Predictions: Notre Dame vs. Miami Odds and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/29/2010
One of college football’s most-heated and best rivalries, which helped shape the sport in the 1980s, is renewed for the first time in 20 years when Notre Dame faces Miami (Fla.) on New Year’s Eve afternoon in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.

Meineke Car Care Bowl Predictions: South Florida vs. Clemson Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 12/29/2010
This year’s version of the Meineke Car Care Bowl -- which features South Florida (7-5) and Clemson (6-6) in Charlotte on Friday, Dec. 31 at noon EST -- will be the last under this not particularly long serving or prestigious name. Meineke has moved on, and starting next year the game will have a new and less awkward name - the Belk Bowl. Clemson is making their debut in the game, while South Florida lost to North Carolina State in 2005. The programs have never met on any field.

Chick-fil-A Bowl Predictions: Florida State vs. South Carolina Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 12/29/2010
The last bowl game of the calendar year kicks off at 7:30 p.m. EST on Friday, Dec.31 in Atlanta when Florida State (9-4) and South Carolina (9-4) clash in the Chick-fil-A bowl. The two teams have no history playing each other -- they haven’t played each other since 1991 -- but there is still a rivalry story here. When South Carolina Coach Steve Spurrier was at Florida his bitter rivalry with Florida State may have been the best in the country.

Holiday Bowl Predictions: Nebraska vs. Washington Odds and Picks
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/28/2010
Bowl executives generally try avoiding rematches in bowl games. Nebraska vs. Washington in the Holiday Bowl may be exactly the reason why. Just over three months after the Cornhuskers thumped Washington, 56-21, in Seattle, the two teams are reunited Dec. 30 in the Holiday Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego at 10 p.m. EST.

Alamo Bowl Predictions: Oklahoma State vs. Arizona Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 12/28/2010
The third game of the day on Wednesday, Dec. 29, sees Oklahoma State and Arizona travel to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl. This was a January bowl last year for the first time, but it’s back to a more familiar spot here. It also welcomes a new conference affiliation this year - the Pac-10 replaces the Big Ten as the opponent for the Big 12. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. EST.

Pinstripe Bowl Predictions: Syracuse vs. Kansas State Odds and Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/28/2010

Texas Bowl Predictions: Illinois vs. Baylor Odds and Betting Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/28/2010
The Dec. 29 Texas Bowl between Illinois and Baylor would probably be a much better basketball matchup than a football clash, but I’m sure both schools are happy to be traveling to Houston’s Reliant Stadium. Both schools stumbled down the stretch

Military Bowl Predictions: Maryland vs. East Carolina Odds and Betting Picks
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/27/2010
Maryland was 2-10 last season; they likely did not expect to be preparing to play in a bowl game right now. East Carolina was 5-2 earlier this season; they likely did not expect to be in a low-tier bowl game in a cold-climate location.

Champs Sports Bowl Predictions: NC State vs. West Virginia Odds and Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/23/2010
No two conferences in the country catch as much flak as the ACC and the Big East. Sometimes the criticism is warranted and sometimes it‘s not. But, unfortunately, two of the best teams from both leagues won’t get a shot to prove themselves against the rest of the country because they will be slugging it out with one another.

Insight Bowl Predictions: Missouri vs. Iowa Odds and Betting Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/23/2010
College football is, for all intents and purposes, a sick, twisted puppet show. It’s a mess. A disaster. It is a type of chaos that doesn’t exist anywhere else on the gambling frontier. The sport’s unpredictability is its trademark. And nowhere is this more evident than during the college bowl season.

College Football Picks: NCAA Bowl Team Props Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/22/2010
There is kind of a cool prop that a few books are running is odds on right now: which team will score the most points in a bowl game during a certain stretch of games. There are no games on Christmas and then things really get going on New Year’s Eve, so let’s take a look at the Dec. 26-30 stretch and which school might be your best value bet with some college football picks and predictions. Independence Bowl Predictions: Georgia Tech vs. Air Force Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 12/22/2010
The lone game on Monday, Dec. 27, which kicks off at 5 p.m. EST, sees the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-6) meet the Air Force Falcons (8-4) in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana. It’s the first meeting for the programs.

Little Caesars Bowl Predictions: Florida International vs. Toledo Odds and Picks
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/22/2010
On the surface this matchup between a pair of small colleges in mid-major conferences may not seem as attractive, as, say a Hot-N-Ready Little Caesars Pizza. However, a closer look reveals a surprisingly appetizing matchup. The Little Caesar’s Bowl features two programs on the upswing that are proving many people wrong simply by reaching Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan to play on Sunday, Dec. 26 at 8 p.m. ET.

Hawaii Bowl Predictions: Tulsa vs. Hawaii Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 12/21/2010
If you like offense, you should love this year’s Hawaii Bowl. Hawaii will take part in the game again this year, and they’ll square off against Tulsa. Both teams can score the points in bunches, so get ready for an action packed game on Friday night. Hawaii obviously will have a nice home field advantage, but this is a Tulsa team that has won at Notre Dame and Houston this year. Let’s take a closer look at how the matchups break down in this one.

Poinsettia Bowl Predictions: San Diego State vs. Navy Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 12/20/2010
San Diego State (8-4) makes their first bowl game game since 1998, and as a result they get to travel all the way to San Diego for the game. What a reward. They’ll face Navy (9-3), a team that was guaranteed a spot in this bowl this year as long as they had a winning record. The game takes place Thursday, Dec. 23 at 8 p.m. EST. At first glance San Diego State has a significant home field advantage, but with a massive naval presence in San Diego there will be plenty of support for the Midshipmen, too. It should be a raucous crowd.

Las Vegas Bowl Predictions: Boise State vs. Utah Odds and Betting Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/17/2010
Boise State had dreams of playing for a National Championship and making a once-in-a-lifetime statement against the wretched monster that is the BCS System. They were one of the most highly discussed, argued, scrutinized and canonized teams in recent college football history and they have lost just one time, one agonizing time, in the last 26 times that they’ve taken the field.

St. Petersburg Bowl Predictions: Southern Miss vs. Louisville Odds and Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/16/2010
Louisville and Southern Miss might seem like a random bowl pairing this holiday season: another meaningless game on a bloated bowl game schedule. However, of all of the matchups on the college football bowl slate these two opponents could be considered the biggest rivals of any two schools facing off.

College Football Bowl Game Odds: Totals Set for Offense
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/15/2010

New Mexico Bowl Predictions: BYU vs. UTEP Odds and Betting Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/15/2010
After five straight years of playing in the Las Vegas Bowl, BYU will meet UTEP at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18 at University Stadium in Albuquerque, NM for the New Mexico Bowl. This is the sixth straight bowl game for the Cougars, but it’s their first time playing in the postseason outside of Sin City since 2001.

Humanitarian Bowl Predictions: Northern Illinois vs. Fresno State Odds and Betting Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 12/15/2010
Northern Illinois brings their 10-3 record from the MAC to Boise’s smurf turf to face 8-4 Fresno State in the Humanitarian Bowl. The game kicks of a 5:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Dec. 18. The two teams haven’t played each other since 1991, so there is no meaningful past history to rely on.

New Orleans Bowl Predictions: Ohio vs. Troy Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 12/15/2010
The New Orleans Bowl will be one of the first college bowl games played in 2010. The Ohio Bobcats will take on the Troy Trojans in the Superdome on Dec. 18 at 9 p.m. EST. Both of these teams struggled through portions of this season, but they were able to keep it together and get back to another bowl game. This looks like an even matchup, so it should be a good way to kick off the bowl season.

College Football Bowl Odds: Early One-Sided Action
by Trevor Whenham - 12/10/2010
There is still a lot of time to go before the bowls even start - never mind when they end - so there will be lots of line movement and public action between now and kickoff. College Football Picks: Army vs. Navy Betting Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/9/2010
Army vs. Navy hasn’t been the best rivalry game in college football for decades, but you can still argue it’s the most important, tradition-rich game of each season. The problem is how one-sided this series has been. Navy has won eight in a row (6-2) ATS to take a 54-49-7 edge in the series.

College Football Picks for Big 12 Championship: Nebraska vs. Oklahoma Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 12/4/2010
Two of the most accomplished and revered programs in college football history are going to line up this weekend for one last tussle as conference rivals. No. 13 Nebraska and No. 9 Oklahoma have been doing battle since 1912, from the 1971 Game of the Century to the Big Eight to the Big 12, and this will be the last matchup before the Huskers bolt to the Big Ten Conference next year.

SEC Championship Game Predictions: Auburn vs. South Carolina Betting Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 12/3/2010
The story of the SEC Championship Game is how close it came to becoming a very different event. Auburn QB Cam Newton, the prohibitive favorite to win the Heisman Trophy, was temporarily ruled ineligible for this game because his father demanded a substantial amount of money from schools that wanted Newton to attend. In a reversal that opens up a serious loophole, Newton’s eligibility was restored because it was ruled that he had no knowledge of what was going on.

College Football Picks: ACC Championship Game Predictions for Florida State vs. Virginia Tech
by Trevor Whenham - 12/3/2010
This game features clearly the two best teams in the ACC. That’s not really a complement to this conference. These two teams are fine, but neither one is anywhere close to an elite program right now. On the plus side, whoever wins this game will be dramatically better than the Big East champion.

MAC Championship Game Predictions: Miami-Ohio vs. Northern Illinois Betting Odds
by Aaron Smith - 12/3/2010
On Friday night the MAC Championship Game will be played on at Ford Field in Detroit. This is the 14th annual MAC Championship Game. Northern Illinois is looking for their first win in the championship game, and Miami (Ohio) is searching for their second. The Huskies of Northern Illinois went 8-0 in MAC play, while the RedHawks of Miami went 7-1. Miami went just 1-11 overall last year, so the fact that they have made it to the MAC title game is an impressive feat.

Week 14 College Football Picks and Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 12/2/2010
Last week’s picks were a lesson in the power of trends. Oklahoma State looked like they were poised to finally end the dominance of Oklahoma, but Bedlam turned out like it always does - at least in part because the Sooners passed for about six million yards. Luckily Michigan State easily took care of business against Penn State to turn the week into a split.

College Football Predictions: Coaches on the Hot Seat
by Trevor Whenham - 12/1/2010
The college football regular season is drawing to an end, and already we are seeing several coaches getting fired. It’s the 13th week of the college football season. Hopefully 13 isn’t unlucky for us here with these week 13 college football picks and odds. College Football Picks: Fresno State at Boise State Odds and Betting Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 11/19/2010
I always think it’s an interesting and appropriate matchup whenever these two teams play each other. In a lot of ways, Pat Hill and Fresno State paved the way for Boise State and other programs to be where they are. The Bulldogs were one of the first programs in non-traditional markets to really make some noise and make the football world take notice. They were never quite able to take the big step, but they came close, and their success made it much easier for other schools to be taken seriously.

Last week’s picks did not go according to plan - to say the least. Iowa State had an awful day at Colorado as the Buffs enjoyed the boost of a new coach. Utah was clearly shell-shocked and demoralized by their merciless beating by TCU the week before, and had no will left to put up a fight against a Notre Dame team they should have been able to easily outclass. Frustrating week.

This week’s Tuesday night college football game on ESPN2 will have serious implications in the MAC standings. The Ohio Bobcats and the Temple Owls are tied atop the MAC East with a record of 5-1. The winner of this game has the inside track to the MAC Championship Game, where they will likely play Northern Illinois. Both programs understand there is a lot at stake in this matchup. These teams are playing their best football of the year right now, so I expect a hard fought battle in this one.

The ESPN Friday night showcase game is a very important one this week. Boise State is currently ranked No. 4 in the BCS Standings, and they know they must win every game impressively to even have a chance to play for a title this year. College Football Picks and Predictions: West Virginia vs. Connecticut Betting Odds
by Aaron Smith - 10/29/2010
The Connecticut Huskies were expected to be among the best teams in the Big East this year, but it just hasn’t worked out that way. West Virginia looked like the class of the conference until last weekend’s shocking home loss at the hands of Syracuse. The Connecticut Huskies are searching for an identity, while West Virginia must put last week’s disappointment behind them and get back on track. This one will be on national television, so both teams should be fired up and ready to bring their best effort.

College Football Power Rankings - The Ferringo 15
by Robert Ferringo - 10/28/2010
It was a slim winning week for the Ferringo 15, as our clubs went 6-5 for the week to turn an overall profit. That now makes these teams 29-24 ATS in the last three weeks that they have been posted in this section. Also, for the year that makes the F-15 teams a barely passable 42-36 the week that they have been listed in these power rankings. Remember: I’m not listing the 15 teams that I think will cover in a given week. This is just a list of 15 teams that I think present the best blend of immediate and long-term earning potential against the books, while also giving credit to teams for recent, past performances.

College Football Picks: Florida State at North Carolina State Betting Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/28/2010
If this matchup seems rather familiar for a Thursday night in an even-numbered year, well, it should. This marks the fourth straight Thursday night meeting between the schools in Raleigh. FSU won 17-10 in 2004 and 26-17 in 2008, but lost 24-20 in 2006. For some reason FSU is always on the road in Thursday nighters. This is their ninth road game in 11 Thursday night games since 1983. Overall FSU is 7-4 in the 11.

Boise State Vs. TCU – Who Has the Upper-Hand in BCS Standings?
by Trevor Whenham - 10/26/2010
It was another tough weekend for undefeated teams in college football. Oklahoma fell in their first week atop the BCS rankings, and they were joined in the one-loss club by LSU and Oklahoma State. There are now just seven remaining unbeaten ranked teams. Two of those teams are particularly interesting to me. I’m a hopeless romantic, and I kinda like chaos, so the possibility of a Boise State vs. TCU BCS Championship Game, and the absolute mess that that would create, is something to dream about.

College Football Picks: Washington at Arizona Betting Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/23/2010
As usual, we are here to preview the final NCAA game of the night on Saturday because, let’s face it, its bettors’ final chance to either avoid a loss to the day or simply add to their winnings. Both these teams enter the weekend in a four-way tie at 2-1 for second in the Pac-10 behind unbeaten Oregon.

College Football Predictions: South Florida vs. Cincinnati Betting Odds and Picks
by Aaron Smith - 10/22/2010
The Cincinnati Bearcats will be showcased for a second straight week on ESPN Friday night football. This week, Cincinnati will host the South Florida Bulls in an important Big East matchup. The Big East is still wide open, and Cincinnati certainly has the talent to be near the top of the conference. South Florida is still establishing their identity under Skip Holtz, but they would love nothing better than to upset Cincinnati on national television. There will be plenty of talent on both sidelines this Friday night.

Week 8 College Football Picks and Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 10/22/2010
Last week was a split week with these picks. On one hand Utah did what I thought they would do - looked very impressive in beating up on a totally outmatched Wyoming team. That big gain was offset by a tough and surprising loss - I was seduced by Nevada and their pistol offense, but they were outplayed by a Hawaii team that continues to surprise this year - and to reward those bettors who back them. With these Week 8 college football picks and odds I’ll look to replicate the success of the Utah pick while avoiding the frustration of the Nevada one.

Heisman Trophy Odds and Betting Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 10/22/2010
I think that college football is the best sport there is. There are a lot of reasons for that, but one is because it changes so quickly. Every time you think you have everything figured out they play another week of games and everything gets turned upside down. Good teams don’t look so good anymore, top players falter, and we have to adjust our expectations time and again.

College Football Picks: UCLA at Oregon Betting Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/20/2010
Well, this looks like a massive blowout, right? After all, UCLA enters off a 35-7 loss to an average Cal team in which the Bruins’ 144 total yards were the fewest since they gained 114 against USC in 2001. Oregon, meanwhile, plays its first game ever as the nation’s top-ranked team and usually has 144 total yards by the end of the first quarter.

College Football Predictions: Free Picks from Strike Point Sports
by Strike Point Sports - 10/20/2010
The last couple of weeks in October have been particularly crazy in the world of college football. We’ve had consecutive weeks of the nation’s top team (AP and Coaches Polls) going down in defeat. Two weeks ago it was defending champs Alabama, who fell on the road to South Carolina. This past weekend it was the Buckeyes of Ohio State who crashed and burned in Madison to the Wisconsin Badgers.

College Football Picks: Cincinnati vs. Louisville Betting Odds and Preview
by Aaron Smith - 10/15/2010
The ESPN Friday night showcase will once again be a Big East matchup this week. The Cincinnati Bearcats will travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals. The Bearcats are trying to bounce back after a disappointing start to this season, and the Cardinals are looking to get their program turned back around after last year’s disappointing finish. Last year, the Bearcats beat Louisville, 41-10, but those were two completely different teams. Expect a hard-fought battle in Louisville this Friday!

College Football Predictions: Which Undefeated Teams Will Stay That Way?
by Trevor Whenham - 10/15/2010
Six weeks of the college football season have come and gone. That has been enough time to expose the issues of a lot of teams, but not all of them. There are still 13 ranked teams that are undefeated. By the end of the season there will be far fewer - perhaps just a couple. The Big East has been a laughingstock among the BCS conferences this year and on Thursday night’s ESPN game we get to see the lone ranked team in the conference with No. 25 West Virginia hosting USF. Week 6 College Football Picks and Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 10/8/2010
It was a rough week last week for these football picks. Stanford looked very good early on, but got worse and worse as the game went on. Nevada won big like I expected them to, but just not quite big enough - a late UNLV score when the game was in hand ended my dreams of a cover. By now you no doubt know the Huskers won 17-3, which actually knocked a 6-6 KSU team from not only the Big 12 title game but also a bowl because two of those six wins were against FCS schools.

Troy and Middle Tennessee State will square off in the first Tuesday night ESPN2 college football game this season. The Trojans of Troy have won four straight Sun Belt championships and they are now in search of their fifth. College Football Picks: BYU vs. Utah State Betting Odds and Predictions
by Aaron Smith - 10/1/2010
This Friday night ESPN will be in Utah for the intrastate battle between BYU and Utah State. Both teams head into this game at 1-3, but you can bet that this will be a very spirited battle. BYU has lost three straight games, and they haven’t lost four straight in a season since 17 years ago, when Utah State beat them, 58-56, in Logan. The teams meet once again on the campus of Utah State in what should be considered a chance for both teams to get their seasons turned around.

College Football Predictions: Teams With Great Betting Value
by Trevor Whenham - 9/17/2010
It’s just two weeks into the season in college football, but we are already starting to get a handle on which teams are good and which ones aren’t - at least in the bigger conferences. Inevitably, though, there are teams out there that are better than people give them credit for because they don’t get a whole lot of attention. College Football Predictions and Picks: Cal vs. Nevada Betting Odds
by Aaron Smith - 9/17/2010
The Friday late night ESPN showcase will feature the Cal Golden Bears and the Nevada Wolf Pack this week. Both teams were humbled at the end of last season, but both are contenders in their conference this year. California finished last year on a sour note with losses to Washington and Utah, but the Golden Bears have started out 2010 with some nice play. The Wolf Pack of Nevada were blown out by SMU in the bowl game last year, but they have started 2-0 in 2010. This battle in Reno should be an exciting matchup between two offenses that look absolutely dominating this year. California is looking to prove they are for real this year, while Nevada is out to prove they can win a big game on a national stage

Michigan Wolverines Predictions With Denard Robinson

There is as much buzz around Michigan football now as there has been for years, and for once it’s actually positive. College Football Predictions and Picks: Cincinnati at NC State Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/16/2010
It’s not exactly the best matchup on ESPN’s Thursday night football this week as unranked N.C. State (2-0) hosts Cincinnati (1-1). And both conferences could use a win as the Bearcats’ Big East is down to just two schools still without a loss after just two weeks and the Wolfpack’s ACC’s was fairly humiliated by the outings of conference teams like Florida State and Georgia Tech last week. All five ACC teams that started the season ranked among the AP Top 25 have already suffered at least one loss. Virginia Tech, the preseason favorite to win the league, already has two.

College Football Predictions and Picks: Stanford at UCLA Betting Odds

UCLA was supposed to be a sleeper team in Rick Neuheisel’s second season as head coach, but the Bruins didn’t look very good last week in a 31-22 loss at Kansas State. The Bruins' rebuilt front seven surrendered 313 yards rushing to the Wildcats. And on offense, QB Kevin Prince completed just 9-of-26 passes for 120 yards with two interceptions. If there was one bright spot it was that Bruins kicker UCLA's Kai Forbath kicked three field goals and ran his streak to 40 in a row from inside 50 yards.

It’s tough to take too much out of the first game, especially in a rivalry game like this one. College Football Predictions: Advice for Betting on North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina’s football program is a total mess right now. Like the biggest mess we’ve seen in a long while. Shaun Draughn, Ryan Houston, Brian Gupton, Norris Searcy, Jon Smith and Linwan Euwell are being held out. These are key players and all of this severely hinders North Carolina’s chances to get a win in this game with LSU. Now, with Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska all ranked in the Top 10 and entering the regular season as legit National Championship contenders, the Big 12 is back front and center, with the focus now on the field and one simple question:

2010-11 College Football Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 9/1/2010
We are, as I write this, within 24 hours of kickoff of the first game of the college football season. I can’t begin to tell you how excited that makes me. Though I would be far more accurate with my college football predictions if I waited until the season started - or ended - before making them, but that’s not sporting. Here, then, are 10 predictions I feel reasonably good about heading into this season:

Handicapping Nuetral Site College Football Games
by Trevor Whenham - 9/1/2010
Neutral site games - one of the unique challenges of handicapping college football. Neutral site games are rare enough that we have to take special note of them, but common enough that we can’t just ignore them entirely. As you try to tackle the challenge of figuring out how to deal with these games, here are six questions to ask:

College Football Predictions: First-Year Coaches
by Trevor Whenham - 8/31/2010
There are 120 teams in the FBS in college football. Given that number it’s truly remarkable to think that there are 23 coaches making their debut with a new team this year. That’s over a fifth of all teams. College football coaches are supposed to have much more stability and a much longer time frame to work with than their peers in the NFL, but that kind of turnover is truly NFL-like.

2010 College Football Predictions: Michigan Wolverines Odds and Betting Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 8/25/2010
Let me say this up front - I am obsessed with Michigan. Proof: my newborn son was wearing a Michigan hat within minutes of his birth. It was the first thing he wore other than a diaper. And I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

College Football Predictions: Under-the-Radar Quarterbacks That Could Provide Betting Value
by Trevor Whenham - 8/20/2010
An effective quarterback can have a very big impact on a college football team - far more of one in the NFL. Because college football players are less experienced and more errors are made there is a lot more room for a standout player to lift his team and have a positive impact on the way things turn out. By now even casual college football fans have heard a lot about the guys who are expected to be big-name, potentially award-winning quarterbacks this year.

College Football Predictions for Betting: Teams that Could Surprise
by Trevor Whenham - 8/16/2010
Every year in college football there are a few lousy teams that put together surprisingly good seasons - or at least teams that have long been easy to completely ignore that finally do something to capture your attention. Needless to say, spotting those teams in advance can be useful for bettors. Here are three teams that have this chance to be significantly better than we have come to expect them to be:

2010 College Football Predictions: Oklahoma Sooners Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 8/11/2010
The Oklahoma Sooners would like to forget about the 2009 season. Oklahoma came into the year as one of the favorites to win it all, but after numerous key injuries they sputtered to an 8-5 record and weren’t even ranked at the end of the season. Three of the first four picks in the NFL Draft were Oklahoma Sooners players from last year, so they clearly lost a great deal of talent.

College Football Predictions: Ole Miss with Jeremiah Masoli at QB
by Trevor Whenham - 8/11/2010
Never have we seen a situation quite like this one. In January QB Jeremiah Masoli led the Oregon Ducks to the Rose Bowl. Neither he nor his team had a good day in Pasadena, but he showed enough last year that he was a logical, strong Heisman Trophy contender heading into his senior season. But then things really went to hell.

2010 College Football Predictions: TCU Horned Frogs Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 8/11/2010
The 2009 TCU Horned Frogs had a perfect regular season, before falling by a touchdown to Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. Gary Patterson has built up quite a football team that can clearly compete with anyone in the country at this point. Patterson has this team believing it can do anything, and they are a very dangerous bunch right now.

Preseason College Football Polls: My Issues With the Rankings
by Trevor Whenham - 8/10/2010
The preseason Coaches’ Poll has been released - the clearest sign yet that the college football season is finally almost here. Polls are subjective at the best of times, but especially so at this point. Teams haven’t even practiced officially for months, so we have no way of really knowing what they have, what they are planning, and how it all may work out. It’s always the case, then, that everyone who pays attention to college football is bound to have some issues with the early polls. Some teams will be getting more respect than you think they deserve, while others are being disrespected or downright ignored.

2010 College Football Predictions: Ohio State Buckeyes Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 8/9/2010
The Buckeyes of Ohio State have received quite a bit of negative media in the past few years after losing the BCS Championship Game twice in a row. Some of the same people that were on Jim Tressel’s bandwagon after their 2002 title run hopped off quickly after their setbacks in the title game against Florida and LSU in consecutive years. Even though the Buckeyes have only one title to show for their winning tradition under Jim Tressel, this team is consistently one of the best in country. Last year’s Rose Bowl win over the Oregon Ducks was huge for the morale of this club. Time will tell, but that win could propel them to even bigger things in 2010.

2010 College Football Predictions: Virginia Tech Hokies Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 8/9/2010
While the Virginia Tech Hokies sat at just 5-3 after eight weeks last year, Frank Beamer’s squad put it together and won their final five games to finish at 10-3. QB Tyrod Taylor and many of the leaders on offense are back and the Hokies have high hopes in 2010. The running game should be one of the best in the nation, but the defense does have several question marks as youngsters must fill some big shoes in order to keep this unit’s production from sliding.

2010 College Football Predictions: Florida Gators Odds and Betting Picks
by Aaron Smith - 8/6/2010
The Florida Gators wanted 2009 to be the season where they proved that they were one of the best college football teams of all time. Unfortunately for the Gators, there was one hiccup and that happened to be in the SEC title game against Alabama. The Crimson Tide thumped the Gators and went on to win the BCS Championship. The Gators did a nice job of getting back on their feet and wiping the floor with the Bearcats of Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl. A 13-1 season was a great success, but some Florida faithful were a bit disappointed, because their sights were set so high.

2010 Texas Longhorns Football Predictoins, Futures Odds, Preview and Football Picks
by Aaron Smith - 8/5/2010
The Texas Longhorns fell just short of another BCS Championship last year. They lost Colt McCoy and several other stars, but this team is still loaded with talent at just about every position on the field. One thing you don’t have to worry about at a school like Texas is depth. Mack Brown takes his fair share of criticism, but the man has made Texas one of the powers in today’s college football world. Brown has never won less than nine games at Texas and the Longhorns have gone on a roll, winning 10 or more games for nine straight seasons.

2010 USC Trojans Football Preview, Futures Odds and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 8/4/2010
If there has been one recurring storyline to this college football offseason so far it always seems to involve USC. Whether it’s mocking the stupidity of the Trojans new coach or questioning the actions of the old one, considering whether they should keep old awards or wondering when they’ll be capable of winning awards again, there has been no shortage of news made by the Trojans and very little of it has been good.

2010 Boise State Broncos Football Preview, Futures Odds and Predictions
by Aaron Smith - 8/2/2010
The Boise State Broncos burst onto the scene in 2006 with their amazing win over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl. At that point, many football fans saw them as the loveable underdog that everyone wanted to win. In the last few years, however, Boise State has established their football program as being one of the best in the nation. No doubt, some of those fans that jumped on the bandwagon in 2006 are now worried that Boise State is consistently better than their favorite team. These Broncos are for real, and they are definitely a legitimate BCS National Championship contender.

Sun Belt Conference Football Betting Preview with Odds and Predictions
by Aaron Smith - 8/2/2010
The Sun Belt Conference isn’t in the media spotlight through much of the football season, but there is plenty of drama here. If you are knowledgeable about the teams in the conference you can also make some cash as the season progresses – some of these under-the-radar conferences are the bread-and-butter for serious college football handicappers. As is the case with most of the smaller leagues, there is a pretty big disconnect between the top of their league and the bottom. The teams at the top are the ones that the big schools are afraid to play, while the teams at the bottom are the ones the big schools consider an easy way to pad their record.

College Football Handicapping: Top Revenge Games
by Robert Ferringo - 7/31/2010
Pain is dished out on a regular basis every Saturday during the college football season. Whether it’s on the players or the fans, it’s part of the tribal nature of the sports. Every defeat is misery in college football. But there are some games, some losses, which deliver a psychic pain that scars the soul. You don’t forget that ache. You simply live to revenge them and can only seek solace in the delivery of an equal and appropriate agony onto your fellow man.

Mountain West Conference Betting Preview with Odds and Predictions
by Aaron Smith - 7/31/2010
The Mountain West Conference has really risen to prominence in the last couple of years with the terrific seasons put forth by Utah in 2008 and TCU last year. College football fans are starting to realize that this is a conference where high-quality football is being played. While the weaker teams in the conference are still far behind the curve because of their poor defenses, the top half of this league has really gotten its act together.

2010 Jake Locker Washington Huskies Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 7/29/2010
Jake Locker is one of the most interesting players we have had to consider at the end of July in a long time. If the NFL Draft were to happen today then the quarterback from Washington would likely be the first to hear his name called. He’s big, he’s got a rocket where his arm is supposed to be, and he can run like the wind. He’s what scouts dream of when they close their eyes and think about the ideal quarterback.

2010 Alabama Crimson Tide Football Preview, Futures Odds and Predictions
by Aaron Smith - 7/29/2010
The Alabama Crimson Tide ended on top of the football world last year with a win over the Texas Longhorns in the BCS National Championship Game. Nick Saban’s team must replace 10 starters on defense, so the new faces will be all over the field. The good news for Crimson Tide fans is the depth at Alabama is tremendous, and many people believe this year’s defense will pick up right where last year’s left off.

College Football: BCS National Championship Odds and Predictions
by Robert Ferringo - 7/28/2010
Every year college football provides a unique and bizarre betting experience. In my eyes, only the NBA can come close to equaling the absurdity, from a gambling standpoint, of a college football season. And that’s saying something. But this year is going to be even crazier than most and I think we should gear up for things insane and obscene.

Below is a look at the Top 10 conference college football games of 2010. These may not be the 10 most important college football games or the 10 best matchups of the college football season. College Football Teams With High Betting Value
by Trevor Whenham - 7/24/2010
It’s time to hunt for some college football sleepers - teams that aren’t going to start the season atop the rankings, but teams that I think have a high celieng for potential for the upcoming football season. These are teams that could surprise and shock, and be a major factor when the BCS invites are given out. Here are four teams that certainly fit that bill in my eyes:

College Football Handicapping: Teams With the Toughest Schedules
by Trevor Whenham - 7/22/2010
When we are thinking about college football we spend all of our time talking about things like the quality of the players, the coaching, the recruiting, and so on. While that’s all important, perhaps the biggest consideration of all is the schedule that teams have to play. An easy non-conference schedule can have teams heading into conference play undefeated and bursting with confidence.

Top 11 Nonconference College Football Games
by Robert Ferringo - 7/16/2010
Unlike college basketball, where teams play an extensive and expansive schedule that is packed with preseason tournaments, high-level meetings between regional powers, and neutral site matchups between teams from power leagues, in college football we don’t have much to work with to determine how conferences stack up head-to-head. Because the league schedule dominates college football we are forced to glean a lot from a little when teams from BCS leagues meet up in key nonconference clashes.

2010 Heisman Trophy Futures: Odds and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 7/6/2010
The Heisman Trophy futures have been posted, and they give us a lot to think about. Anyone who pays attention to the Heisman process knows that the winner very often isn’t being talked about at all right now. That makes it even more fun to speculate and look at the odds that are available. 5Dimes has odds listed for 26 different players. Here’s a look at 10 of the most interesting (and we will offer some predictions of their chances):

College Football BCS Futures for National Championship Odds and Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 7/6/2010
The college football season is now less than two months away. I don’t know about you, but I’m counting the seconds. This is a good time to take another look at the BCS futures National Championship odds for some potential value, or at least for a few bets or predictions of interest. The odds have been out long enough that the initial action has been placed and the initial adjustments have been made, and we have a fair bit more news about teams than we did when we first saw the odds.

Impact of Pac-10 Realignment
by Trevor Whenham - 7/1/2010
The biggest story coming out of the college football realignment frenzy when it comes to the Pac-10 is the conference’s failure to pull off the incredibly ambitious bid to form the Pac-16. They fell well short of the goal, and you could argue that they were masterfully used by Texas to get what they wanted and increase their own stature.

BCS National Championship Game Handicapping Factors
by Trevor Whenham - 1/6/2010
With the BCS National Championship Game between Alabama and Texas looming, one way we can work to handicap the game is by looking back to see what we can learn from the games that have already been played during this bowl season. Each bowl game is a unique entity, but patterns start to emerge the further in we get, and we can start to look for some theories or ideas based on what we have seen.
