We haven’t revised these ratings of the best MMA fighters since the summer, so it is certainly time to do it again - especially since the year is over for the UFC. What’s most surprising about this list is how little it has changed despite all the time that has passed since we looked at it.

MMA Betting Opinion: Anderson Silva and Future in UFC

Anderson Silva makes my head hurt. He’s probably the most talented MMA fighter alive, but his effort doesn’t always match up to that talent. He does enough to win, but it has been a long time since he has done what we all know he is capable of. He’s very frustrating to watch.

Best MMA Fighters Pound-for-Pound

We haven’t visited the MMA pound for pound rankings since June, and a whole lot has changed. Three fighters have dropped out of the rankings, including two very high profile ones. B.J. Penn falls out after a stunning upset at the hands of Frankie Edgar, and Fedor Emelianenko, a mainstay in the Top 3 for years, is now unranked after an incomprehensible loss to Fabricio Werdum. I was going to do it last week, but it's a good thing I waited because last weekend's events in Abu Dhabi had a massive impact on what we'll see here. It has been five months since I last updated the MMA pound-for-pound rankings, so it is certainly time to do it again. I should have done it sooner, but the MMA world, and the UFC in particular, seems to be in a bit of a slump right now. It's been a while since we have had a truly exciting MMA card - most of what we have seen recently has been fine, but it's been a long time since we have had an event that you couldn't stand to miss.
