2012 Heisman Trophy Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/18/2012
A few of the books put out early 2012 Heisman Trophy odds, and the one thing they seem to agree on is that Southern Cal quarterback Matt Barkley is the favorite (7/2 on Bovada, for example). Barkley surprised many by choosing to return to Troy because he ended last season playing the best football of his career. He was a lock Top-10 pick in the 2012 draft had he come out.

2013 College Football BCS National Championship Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 1/10/2012
Come on, you knew this story was coming! With the curtain closed on the 2011-12 college football season thanks to Alabama’s boring (and low-rated) but dominant win over LSU on Monday night at the Superdome, it’s already time to start looking ahead to next year’s title odds – the BCS National Championship Game shifts to the Orange Bowl (i.e. Miami’s Sun Life Stadium) on Jan. 7, 2013.

2012 BCS Championship Game Predictions: LSU vs. Alabama Odds and Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/26/2011
All hail the SEC. Again. No. 1 LSU (13-0) will take on No. 2 Alabama (11-1) at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9 at the Superdome in New Orleans. The winner will claim the sixth straight National Championship for the SEC and will be allowed another smug offseason of braggadocio for their rabid Southern fan base.

2012 Fiesta Bowl Predictions: Stanford vs. Oklahoma State Odds and Picks
by Robert Ferringo - 12/26/2011
The Cowboys, the champions of the Big 12, were left out of the BCS National Championship Game as voters elected to go with a rematch between LSU-Alabama in the title clash. Oklahoma State was passed over despite the fact that Alabama didn’t win its own division in the SEC, much less a conference title, and the fact that Oklahoma State has performed better against a more difficult schedule this season.

2012 TicketCity Bowl Predictions: Penn State vs. Houston Odds and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/26/2011
The busy day of bowl action on Jan. 2 kicks off with the TicketCity bowl at noon Eastern from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas when No. 17 Houston (12-1) faces off against No. 23 Penn State (9-3). It will be curious to see how motivated the Cougars are for this one. Houston was unbeaten and in line for its first-ever BCS bowl before running into a pretty good Southern Miss team in the Conference USA Championship Game and falling, 49-28 (that was the only ranked team Houston played this season).

2012 Rose Bowl Predictions: Wisconsin vs. Oregon Odds and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/24/2011
The “Granddaddy of Them All” highlights the bowl action on Jan. 2 when No. 10 Wisconsin and No. 5 Oregon face off in Pasadena for the Rose Bowl. While most would consider the Rose Bowl the top non-title bowl game, both UW and Oregon had National Championship hopes this year. The Badgers (11-2) were about 20 game seconds from playing in that game, falling in the final seconds in back-to-back weeks to Michigan State and Ohio State in midseason.

2012 Gator Bowl Predictions: Florida vs. Ohio State Odds and Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/21/2011
If you had told Gator Bowl organizers back in the summer that they would be matching Florida and Ohio State, they probably would have wet themselves. Alas, this matchup of previous superpowers doesn’t hold quite the cache as expected because both enter off hugely disappointing seasons and at 6-6 each for the Jan. 2 game in Jacksonville.

2011 Insight Bowl Predictions: Iowa vs. Oklahoma Betting Odds
by Nolan Sinclair – Strike Point Sports - 12/21/2011
No. 19 Oklahoma will square off with Iowa in the 2011 Insight Bowl. The game will kick off at 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 30, at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe. The spread on this game opened at 16.5, which was the highest of any bowl spread released in Las Vegas this winter.

2012 Orange Bowl Predictions: West Virginia vs. Clemson Odds
by Nolan Sinclair – Strike Point Sports - 12/20/2011
As the calendar turns to 2012 college football fans will be treated to a week of outstanding football. And while random teams from conferences across the country are thrown together, somewhat haphazardly, into odd bowl games, the Orange Bowl promises to be a rare game that has both national and regional significance.

2011 Holiday Bowl Predictions: Cal vs. Texas Odds and Betting Picks
by Dave Schwab - 12/19/2011

2011 Champs Sports Bowl Predictions: Notre Dame vs. Florida State Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 12/16/2011
The Champs Sports Bowl is overrated. No. 25 Florida State will take on Notre Dame in the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl. The game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29 in the Florida Citrus Bowl and features perhaps the two most overrated programs in college football over the last 10 years.

2011 Poinsettia Bowl Predictions: TCU vs. Louisiana Tech Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 12/16/2011
The Horned Frogs played their final season in the Mountain West this year, winning the conference championship and positioning themselves to once again crash the BCS party and to play in a post-New Year’s bowl game. Instead, they get to take on fledgling Louisiana Tech in a pre-Christmas, mid-week matchup that is about as anticipated as holiday fruitcake.

2011 Alamo Bowl Predictions: Washington vs. Baylor Odds and Picks
by Aaron Smith - 12/16/2011
The Alamo Bowl is generally one of the better early-season bowl matchups, and I would say this year is no different. Robert Griffin III won the Heisman Trophy early this month, and he’ll lead his Baylor Bears up against the Washington Huskies in this one. The man they call RG3 is making the rounds in the media after picking up the coveted trophy. Can his Bears reach double figures in wins in front of a friendly crowd in San Antonio?

2012 Cotton Bowl Predictions: Arkansas vs. Kansas State Odds and Picks
by Darin Zank - 12/16/2011
The Cotton Bowl has kind of fallen off the big bowl radar in recent years, which is too bad considering it's got a lot more tradition than most other bowls. For Instance, Alabama's Tommy Lewis stepping off the bench to lay out Rice's Dicky Moegle in the 1954 game; all those great Southwestern Conference teams; Joe Montana leading Notre Dame back vs. Houston in '79; those early New Year's Day kickoffs, to go along with your favorite hair of the dog. All good stuff.

2012 Outback Bowl Predictions: Michigan State vs. Georgia Odds
by Taylor Jordan – Strike Point Sports - 12/15/2011
Are they focused and ready? How about interested in this game? Those are some of the most important questions for this year’s Outback Bowl when No. 13 Michigan State and No. 18 Georgia get together on Jan.2. Both Michigan State and Georgia played in their respective conference title games with each given more than a fair chance to go BCS bowling with a potential win.

2012 Sugar Bowl Predictions: Michigan vs. Virginia Tech Odds
by Taylor Jordan – Strike Point Sports - 12/15/2011
Don’t look now, but the Maize and Blue are back in the BCS. It may not be the Rose Bowl, but things appear very good in Ann Arbor in Brady Hoke’s first season with his Michigan Wolverines. But then again, his opponent in the 2011 Sugar Bowl is Virginia Tech, and neither this program nor head coach Frank Beamer is a stranger to this game or the big stage.

2011 Independence Bowl Predictions: North Carolina vs. Missouri Betting Odds
by Aaron Smith - 12/14/2011
Many believe the real bowl season doesn’t begin until after Christmas Day. If you subscribe to that theory, the Independence Bowl will kick off this year’s bowl season on Dec. 26. North Carolina and Missouri both finished the regular season with a 7-5 record. The Tar Heels dropped four of their last six games, while the Tigers won their last three contests. This may not be a marquee bowl, but I believe it has the potential to be a quality game.

College Bowl Game Betting Advice: Heisman Trophy Winners
by Trevor Whenham - 12/14/2011
On Dec. 29 the wildly impressive Robert Griffin III will bring his newly-won Heisman Trophy to San Antonio to lead his Baylor Bears in the Alamo Bowl against the Washington Huskies. While Griffin’s Heisman win was unexpected — at least at the start of the season — he was certainly deserving despite the three losses his team suffered.

2011 Meineke Car Care Bowl Predictions: Texas A&M vs. Northwestern Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/13/2011
Ah, the pageantry that is the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Just so we are clear here, I am referring to the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas that is at noon on Dec. 31 in Houston. NOT to the former Meineke Car Care Bowl that used to be in Charlotte and is now called the Belk Bowl.

College Bowl Game Handicapping: Coaching Changes
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/13/2011
There are 12 college football teams heading to their bowl games with some sort of coaching dilemma one-way or the other. There are the coaches who have already been fired but are permitted to coach in the bowl game, coordinators who have been elevated to interim coaches to replace a fired or departed coach, there are the teams with coaches looking for better jobs but stuck there for the time being, and then there are coaches who have already left for another school but will come back to coach in the bowl game.

College Bowl Game Handicapping: Motivation Key Factor
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/12/2011
Aside from the BCS National Championship Game and most of the BCS bowl games, motivation can be questioned for many of the bowl participants each college bowl season. Of course, there are a few teams who enter bowl season with a chip on their shoulder, but more often than not there are more teams exhibiting a lack of motivation in their bowl games.

How to Bet on College Football Bowl Games
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/10/2011
The College Football bowl season provides a number of challenges and opportunities for sports bettors but also unique factors for college football handicappers to consider. The long layoff, potential suspension of players, differing motivation, neutral fields, warmer weather, coaching rumors, live movements, and traveling fan bases, among other things, are all factors that need to be taken in equation that generally do not come up during the college football regular season.

2011 Heisman Trophy Predictions
by Trevor Whenham - 12/7/2011
It’s all over but the ceremony for the Heisman Trophy this year. The lobbying is finished, the votes are cast, and no games are left. In a lot of years this is a very good time to make a Heisman bet or two. We have a decent sense of how things are going to turn out and we know nothing else will change, but there is still enough uncertainty to offer a solid price.

College Football Handicapping: Ranking the BCS Bowls
by Trevor Whenham - 12/7/2011

College Bowl Betting: Best and Worst Bowl Games
by Trevor Whenham - 12/6/2011
It’s bowl season — one of my favorite times of year. While the college bowl game schedule is fresh in our minds it seems like a very good time to pick out the ones that jump out as the best and the worst of the games from the perspective of both a fan and a bettor. Here are five that really stand out as potentially great ones, and four that are almost certain to be terrible.

BCS Championship Game Odds: LSU vs. Alabama Point Spread and Line Movement
by Trevor Whenham - 12/5/2011
The odds have been set for the BCS Championship Game — the divisional rematch between the LSU Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide — and oddsmakers see this one as close. In fact, they couldn’t find it closer — 5Dimes is one of many books that has posted the game at or near ‘pick‘em’ in early action. The early totals line is listed at 39.5.

College Football Picks: Army vs. Navy Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/5/2011
It might not be the most-heated rivalry in college football, but many would make the argument that it’s the most storied when Army and Navy collide – it’s a game so important it gets the entire college weekend to itself. This year’s 112th meeting is at FedEx Field outside of Washington, D.C., the first time Army-Navy has been held in the Capital Beltway.

Handicapping Tips and Advice: College Football Rivalry Week

It might be feast week in college basketball, but it is also the second to last week of the college football regular season, also known as rivalry week. College Football Predictions: Arkansas at LSU Odds and Betting Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 11/22/2011
It’s yet another game of the century in this crazy college football season. This one has so many things riding on the outcome, with the BCS Championship Game at the top of that list. 2011-12 College Bowl Projections and BCS Predictions
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 11/22/2011
Nearly all the dominoes have fallen into place and an SEC rematch is becoming more certain each day. LSU only needs to get past Arkansas at home and then win the SEC Championship against Georgia. Alabama visits Auburn in the Iron Bowl, which is far from a layup. If Arkansas can win in Death Valley the door opens for the Razorbacks to play for a title.

Most college teams have already played five or six games this season so the oddsmakers now have been able to compile more than enough information to really fine-tune the college football odds for the upcoming games. Fortunately, there is always value to be found in the spreads, especially when it comes to matchups in the mid-major conferences. These lines tend to stay true as these games are much less influenced by the betting public than the marquee contests in the major conferences.

The college football season has already reached Week 6. The mid-major report is back once again with another look at the Rice Owls. Rice was selected at random as the team I would follow this year as part of this mid-major report special series. Through the year I will closely follow the Owls in hopes of gaining an edge on the books.

Oklahoma at Texas Predictions and Red River Rivalry Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 10/5/2011
Before we get into the preview, I have to say one thing — it is a total travesty that Oklahoma does not come into this game as the top-ranked team in the AP poll. Oklahoma has done everything asked of them — including taking care of business in impressive fashion in Tallahassee.

College Football Predictions: Boise State at Fresno State Odds and Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 10/5/2011
For the last decade this was a conference game in the WAC. Starting next year it will be a conference game in the Mountain West. Thanks to the seemingly endless conference shuffles, though, this year it will be a nonconference game — just one of the strange quirks in the Boise State Broncos football schedule this year.

College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 6
by Dave Schwab - 10/5/2011
As the 2011 college football regular season reaches the halfway point, teams are now in the heart of their conference play. This familiarity between teams offers some tremendous value in the college football lines as it provides ample information to better handicap the games. This is especially helpful for matchups in the mid-major conferences that do not receive the anywhere near the level of attention from the betting public that the marquee games on the college football schedule do.

We’re nearly halfway through the college football season already. As there is every season there are some teams that are getting more attention, more love in the rankings, and more hype than their play has justified. Here’s a look at five over-rated teams at this point in the college football season. This list can help you with your college football handicapping and to help spot weak college football odds.

If you want a reason other than for betting purposes to watch Thursday’s ESPN college football game, do it for the Oregon uniforms. The Ducks will unveil yet another new ensemble, and I’ve seen them. They are quite awesome. At least in a “retro there’s what looks like Donald Duck on the shoulder pads kind of way.”

College Football Odds: Potential Trap Games Week 5
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 9/29/2011
Two teams are coming off an emotionally charged atmosphere in Week 4 and two teams are prepared to enter an emotionally charged atmosphere in Week 6. What happens in Week 5 is called a trap game both for LSU and West Virginia, who faced off in Week 4, Saturday night in front of a national television audience and for Texas and Oklahoma, two teams who will face off in Week 6 in front of a national television audience.

College Football Picks: Mid-Major Game Day Predictions Week 5
by Dave Schwab - 9/28/2011
After four weeks of action in this year’s college football season, there are only two schools from the mid-major conferences in the AP’s top 25; Boise State at No.4 and TCU at No.20. This lack of notoriety sometimes causes the betting public to forget about the hidden value that exists in some of the matchups between all the other quality teams from these conferences.

Nebraska at Wisconsin Predictions and College Football Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 9/27/2011
When was the last time that the Big Ten had a major game with national implications and attention that didn’t involve Michigan or Ohio State? It happens occasionally, but it’s certainly the exception. That’s what we have here, though, when No. 8 Nebraska travels to Madison to face No. 7 Wisconsin in the first meeting between the historic programs since 1974. Of course, it’s also the first time that Nebraska has ever played a Big Ten contest, and that’s another thing that is tough to wrap your mind around.

College Football Predictions: Utah State vs. BYU Odds and Betting Picks
by Trevor Whenham - 9/27/2011
The Aggies and the Cougars meet on national TV on Friday night in the second most important in-state contest for each team. That’s not saying much since there are only three FBS teams in Utah, but the stakes are still high here. Both of these teams already have two losses, so neither can really afford another if they want to keep hopes of a decent bowl berth and a solid season alive.

Is there any doubt that the Big East Conference is the weakest of all the BCS conferences? For one thing, there’s only one Big East team remaining without a loss and that is No. 16 South Florida as the Bulls open conference play on Thursday night’s ESPN national TV game at Pittsburgh. And secondly, USF is the only team in the conference with a win over a ranked team so far this year – coming in the season opener over Notre Dame, which isn’t ranked any longer.

College Football Predictions: NC State at Cincinnati Odds and Betting Picks

It’s a bit of a downer for this week’s Thursday night ESPN national TV game as, after getting ranked foes LSU and Mississippi State last week. This week it’s unranked North Carolina State and Cincinnati on the docket for this one. I can guarantee you one thing: There will be a ton more points scored by the Wolfpack and Bearcats than the 25 Tigers and Bulldogs managed.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Pitt Panthers Predictions and College Football Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 9/20/2011
This is a very different preview than I would have written for this game just a week ago. Going into last week’s contest the Irish were reeling. They had lost two in a row, they had collapsed in horrifying fashion against Michigan, and they had problems all over the field. It was like the ghost of Charlie Weis was coaching them still. While they didn’t answer all of the questions surrounding them last time out, their decisive win over Michigan State certainly eased the panic felt by fans and analysts at least a little bit.

This is not how the dream was supposed to play out for either team. The BYU Cougars boldly went independent this season. They set up a schedule that would have people taking notice if they won. Unfortunately, they haven’t.

College Football Predictions: LSU at Mississippi State Betting Picks and Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/13/2011
One would think that the quick turnaround for Thursday night’s game between No. 3 LSU and No. 25 Mississippi State would more benefit the Bulldogs considering they are the home team and this is their home opener (and LSU’s first true road game). As Lee Corso would say: “Not so fast my friends.”

College Football Picks: Oklahoma at Florida State Predictions and Betting Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 9/13/2011
This past week Oklahoma became the first ever team to be ranked No. 1 in the country 100 different weeks. That’s an impossibly impressive streak, but one that the Seminoles -- no strangers to the top spot themselves -- would very much like to bring to an end. For the first time in far too long Florida State is actually in a position to be nationally relevant at the highest levels, and everyone associated with the program is desperate to get there. They’ll also be hungry to wash the taste of the humiliating 47-17 loss to Oklahoma in the second game of the season last year from their mouths.

College Football Handicapping: Any Betting Value on Notre Dame?
by Trevor Whenham - 9/13/2011
Many people had the Fighting Irish picked as a BCS team as they looked to shake of years and years of frustration. It’s not even the middle of September, though, and those BCS dreams are — at best — on life support. When a team that is this public and well liked (and hated) by fans it’s especially important to have a sense of what they are capable of and what to expect from them. The Wolverines are 2-0 and they just won the most exciting game of the season. Fans are giddy. There’s a problem, though -- the team really is pretty terrible. The offense is wildly inconsistent and only Denard Robinson’s magic and some horrible secondary play by Notre Dame got them the win.

We are just two weeks into the college football season, but already a whole lot of what we thought we knew has changed. College Football Handicapping: The Experience Factor
by Darin Zank - 9/9/2011
We all know, or at least we should know, that three key factors go into handicapping college football games: talent, coaching and experience. Talent and coaching can go a long way toward a team's success, both in winning games and covering pointspreads. But there's also something to be said about experience, and handicappers should take this intangible into account. Phil Steele certainly does.

College Football Predictions: Arizona at Oklahoma State Odds and Betting Picks

Not a great first week of predictions in college football unfortunately, as the Oregon Ducks laid an egg against LSU and Miami (Fla.) looked like a team missing seven starters in losing to a Maryland squad that featured uniforms I can’t even begin to explain (but the word ‘vomit’ would be used in some form). The Big Ten got off to a rousing start last week with all 12 teams in action. College Football Picks: Miami at Maryland Betting Odds and Predictions

College football’s opening week concludes on Labor Day night with, as far as I can tell, the only conference game involving BCS teams when ACC foes Miami (Fla.) and Maryland meet in College Park. Doc’s Sports 2011 Michigan State Spartans Football Betting Preview
by Doc - 9/1/2011
The Michigan State Spartans have been the one team I can never seem to get a handle on when predicting what their record will be in the Big Ten. Over the course of the past 40 years, this team always seems to play to the levels of their opponent and not to the talent that they have on the team. This is probably the strongest team that Coach Mark Dantonio has had since his arrival in East Lansing, but I would be shocked if they would be able to match last season’s 11-2 record. Michigan State has tough road games this year against Ohio State,

College Football Handicapping: Top 10 Strengths and Weaknesses
by Trevor Whenham - 9/1/2011
With the college football season finally starting tonight it’s a very good time to take a closer look at the top-ranked teams. This is a fascinating time to look at the highest-ranked teams because there will be so much change from now to the end of the year. Last year two of the Top 5 preseason teams wound up unranked, and Auburn was only ranked 22nd before the season started. Given the questions virtually every team in the country has surrounding them this year it’s almost certain that there will be that kind of disarray this year as well.

The Wolves will feature a new coach this season in Brady Hoke. Even more important will be the job that the new defensive coordinator has in trying to turn around this program. That task will fall to Greg Mattison, who has coached this position for the Baltimore Ravens and Florida Gators in recent years. It was imperative for Michigan to hire the right man for this job as they were one of the worst defensive teams in the country under Rich Rodriquez the last three years.

I really like this Wildcat team and have them rated higher than most experts do. The big key to their success will be the play and health of QB Dan Persa. Their road schedule is brutal this year as they must face Illinois, Nebraska, and Iowa away from Evanston.

2011 Indiana Hoosiers Predictions and Football Betting Preview
by Doc - 8/24/2011
New Coach Kevin Wilson is set to take over at Indiana and the former offensive coordinator at Oklahoma will have his hands full as he tries to get this program back to respectability. As was proven during the Bill Mallory era, wins are hard to come by for this program during conference play. It would no surprise me if this program wins three or four games in 2011, but winning a Big Ten game seems very doubtful.

Doc’s Sports 2011 Ohio State Buckeyes Football Betting Preview
by Doc - 8/23/2011
This year’s Ohio State team may be the most difficult team in the Big Ten to handicap. Some of their talent is suspended for the first five games of the season because of the big scandal involving NCAA infractions, and that does not include QB Terrelle Pryor, who left school for the NFL. The biggest fallout from this scandal, however, is that Coach Jim Tressel was forced to resign since he withheld information about his players instead of reporting it to authorities. Ohio State recently had their hearing in front of the NCAA and they may add additional penalties in a couple of months.

Betting Impact of Terrelle Pryor Draft Pick for Raiders

After a tumultuous offseason and a several stops and starts along the way, Terrelle Pryor is an NFL player. Given his attitude and behavioral issues it seems very fitting that he has landed in Oakland — the refuge for guys like him for years. Doc’s Sports 2011 Penn State Nittany Lions Football Betting Preview
by Doc - 8/22/2011
Coach Joe Paterno is returning for his 47th year, and that means he started just one year after I graduated high school! Does that ever put things into perspective. The Lions have 14 starters back and should once again field a very talented team. A September home game against Alabama will certainly test their talent, as Alabama beat Penn State, 24-3, last year in a game that Alabama could have won by 40 if they desired. Penn State will have a much better chance in this game and I look for it to go down to the wire.

College Football Predictions: Overrated Teams
by Trevor Whenham - 8/22/2011
I don’t know about you, but I am dying for the college football season to start. I can’t wait. We won’t really know how good teams are and what we can really expect until we have seen teams play a few games, but that shouldn’t stop us from speculating. When I look at the first of the preseason polls there are five teams that stand out as being obviously, and in most cases significantly, overrated. Here’s a look:

Five Betting Tips for Handicapping SEC Football
by Taylor Jordan - Strike Point Sports - 8/19/2011
The SEC takes the mantle as the toughest, deepest conference in the nation and represents the last five BCS National Champions. But from a gambling standpoint it might be the toughest cookie to crack for bettors. Because there is so much talent the disparity from the best team to the eighth-best team is as slim as any league in the nation. With all of these closely-grouped schools to sort through someone not well versed in how to bet college football could very easily get lost in the woods of the Deep South.

Doc’s Sports 2011 Purdue Boilermakers Football Betting Preview
by Doc - 8/18/2011
This is the third year under Coach Danny Hope, and as I see it, this will be his best Purdue squad by a wide margin. The Boilermakers return 16 starters, and I expect this experience to pay dividends. Last year Purdue was hit hard by injuries, including losing their top three quarterbacks early in the season. Freshman QB Rob Henry was forced into action and he did play better as the season progressed, but as a team they finished last in the Big Ten in passing statistics. Look for a major improvement in 2011, especially at the quarterback position, and expect a bowl bid come December.

Five Betting Tips For Handicapping Big Ten Football
by Taylor Jordan - Strike Point Sports - 8/18/2011
For as much criticism as the Big Ten seems to have received for their play in big games in recent years, the league is still a proven commodity. It has grit and its own personal swagger. But more than anything it has tradition – just don’t cite the newly and pretentiously coined ‘Legends’ and ‘Leaders’ division names as proof of that.

Five Betting Tips for Handicapping Pac-12 Football
by Taylor Jordan - Strike Point Sports - 8/18/2011
You can thank the money-hungry power suits for this new mishmash conference, where location means nothing for a league and greenbacks overrule logic. For Colorado and Utah, the dollar bills shipped into a mix of Pacific Coast universities and resulted in the North and South divisions the league now boasts. But while those odd divisions create a new look for this league, having a league championship game will end up being the biggest thing to come out of this realignment.

College Football Predictions: the Impact of True Freshmen
by Trevor Whenham - 8/18/2011
With fall practices underway we are getting a better sense of which true freshmen in college football are fitting in well and are going to get a chance to contribute from the start, and which ones are likely to take a while to find their place. Here are my college football predictions for six guys who have a chance to be a big factor for their teams -- and therefore for bettors -- right out of the gate:

Doc’s Sports 2011 Illinois Fighting Illini Football Betting Preview
by Doc - 8/18/2011
As the 2010 season came winding down for Illinois, few football experts felt Coach Ron Zook would be around for the 2011 season. There’s no question that the Illini’s bowl victory over Baylor, 38-14, kept Zook on the sidelines. That big win could also give this team a boast for the upcoming season. The talent is certainly there. But the question still remains can Coach Zook and his staff make a move up the Big Ten ladder? Few experts would believe that he could, but I feel that this is going to be the year of the Illini.

NCAA Football Odds: Fallout from Miami Hurricanes Scandal
by Alan Matthews - 8/18/2011
By now you know the name Nevin Shapiro. He is in federal prison on a 20-year sentence for fraud charges for his part in a $930 million Ponzi scheme. He is also the guy who may deliver the death penalty to the University of Miami football program even though the NCAA has basically said it was unlikely to ever take that drastic action again after pulling the plug on the SMU program in the mid-1980s.

Doc’s Sports 2011 Wisconsin Badgers Football Betting Preview
by Doc - 8/16/2011
The Badgers will enter this season as the defending Big Ten Champions, and on paper they look to be in great shape to defend their title. Through spring practice and most of the summer the big question surrounding this team was who would be the quarterback? Two-year starter Scott Tolzein now plays for the San Diego Chargers and he had an effective and underappreciated career at Wisconsin. The Badger quarterbacks who played in the Spring Game did not look very promising, and this was going to be a major concern until the arrival of Russell Wilson from NC State in July.

2011 Florida State Seminoles Predictions and College Football Futures Odds
by Alan Matthews - 8/16/2011
You may not find a more chic pick for a program set to join – or in this case rejoin – the elite of college football than with Florida State. With all due respect to the legendary Bobby Bowden, it appears the best thing FSU officials did was to gently push Bowden aside following the 2009 season. Last year, under Jimbo Fisher, the Noles won 10 games for the first time since the 2003 season. They played in only their second ACC title game, pretty well getting thumped by Virginia Tech, but then solidly beat SEC East champion South Carolina in the Chick-fil-A-Bowl.

2011 Miami Hurricanes Football Predictions and ACC Futures Odds
by Alan Matthews - 8/16/2011
Despite being in the most fertile recruiting area in the country, the University of Miami somehow hasn’t been in a BCS bowl since beating Florida State in the Orange Bowl after the 2003 season and hasn’t even won its division in the ACC since arriving in that conference in 2004. Last season the Hurricanes were the preseason ACC favorites thanks largely to having the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class in 2008 under Randy Shannon.

2011 MAC Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Darin Zank - 8/16/2011
The 13-team Mid-American Conference may provide nonconference fodder for some of the bigger boys around college football, but it has also been the home recently to some pretty good league races and crazy conference championship games. A great example is last year when the previously downtrodden Miami Redhawks, who went went 1-7 in the MAC the previous season, rebounded to go 7-1 and win the East Division, then, as 18-point underdogs, they scored a touchdown with 30 seconds left to upset Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship Game.

Doc’s Weekly Big Ten Predictions Report: Season Preview
by Doc - 8/16/2011
The Big Ten has a new look in 2011 with the addition of the Nebraska Cornhuskers into the Conference. This was a big addition to the Big Ten, as Nebraska has a huge national following and this will tune more people into the Big Ten Network. It will also allow the 12 teams to be divided equally into two six-team divisions and the two winners will be able to battle one another in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship and a berth in the BCS.

2011 Big Ten Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/12/2011
It’s the dawn of a new day in the Big Ten. The new 12-team conference will welcome in a new, division-based structure and will have the conference’s inaugural championship game to look forward to. However, given the disastrous offseason at Ohio State and the continued rebuilding at Michigan there is a power vacuum at the top of the Big Ten that we haven’t seen in ages.

College Football Handicapping: Studs and Duds Against the Spread
by Trevor Whenham - 8/12/2011
College football is just around the corner, and I for one can’t wait. As we get close to the season I can’t help but look back at what happened last year to see what it can teach us about the coming season and help with our college football handicapping. One good place to look is at performance against the spread. Can the best ATS teams last year continue to shine this year? Are the teams that were the cruelest to bettors last year going to continue to burn money this year? Here’s a look at the best and worst of last year:

2011 Pac-12 Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/10/2011
Maybe now the Left Coast will get some love. The Pac-10 is no more, choosing instead to swell its ranks to 12 teams, institute a new divisional system, and implement a championship game that should keep this conference in the news well into December. It is a pretty heady time in the Pac-12. And with new promise and potential comes new expectations.

2011 South Florida Bulls Football Predictions and Big East Futures Odds
by Alan Matthews - 8/10/2011
The South Florida football program is a bit maddening. For the past handful of years, the Bulls have always been considered a Big East contender, but something always seems to get in their way – usually themselves. This is one of those programs that wins a game or two each year that it probably shouldn’t (at Miami last year, FSU the year before) and loses one it shouldn’t (Syracuse at home last year). Thus, USF usually ends up in some second-tier bowl because its fans don’t travel well. It will probably be more of the same this year as the Big East media picked USF to finish third in the conference.

It’s rare to ever describe a college football conference as a dynasty. Where have all the quarterbacks gone in the ACC? Last season the likes of Christian Ponder, Ty Taylor and Russell Wilson led a group of ACC signal callers that rivaled any conference in the country. 2011 Big East Football Predictions and Futures Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 8/3/2011
The Big East is the best conference in college football. And not only is it the best, but it has been the best over the course of the last decade. Granted, they are also the nation’s smallest conference. This year, once again, they don’t have any true 2011 national title contenders. They don’t even come close to the championship bling of the SEC. They can’t match the reverential hype of the Big Ten.

2011 WAC Football Predictions and Western Athletic Conference Odds
by Darin Zank - 8/3/2011
The Western Athletic Conference fought off its reputation as the Boise State-and-the-rest conference to place two teams in the top 11 in the final BCS rankings last year. Unfortunately for WAC fans, this conference is going through some changes, which makes that feat highly unlikely this season. Perennial power Boise State has left for the Mountain West, and three of its better programs have announced they will leave the conference after this season. So as this season approaches the long-term future of the WAC is uncertain.

Victims of the Great College Football Realignment of 2010, the Big 12 will begin this season looking like a college student making a Walk of Shame across the quad after a Friday night of debauchery. 2011 Texas Longhorns Football Predictions and Big 12 Odds
by Robert Ferringo - 7/29/2011
“What the hell just happened?” That had to about sum up the feeling around the 2010 Texas Longhorns. I’m sure that is exactly the phrase that was uttered when they were beaten by 22 at home – as 15-point favorites – to a terrible UCLA team last September. And when they lost by a touchdown at home – as 20-point favorites – to Iowa State.

2011 Michigan State Spartans Football Predictions and Big Ten Odds
by Alan Matthews - 7/29/2011
It’s hard to know whether Michigan State has climbed into the elite of the Big Ten or whether last year was partly smoke and mirrors. The Spartans finished in a three-way tie for the conference title, but they were bumped from a BCS bowl because they were lower in the BCS standings than both Wisconsin and Ohio State. Therefore, MSU got sent to the Capital One Bowl in Orlando.

College Football Predictions: First-Year Quarterbacks
by Trevor Whenham - 7/28/2011
One of the best parts of college football is that things are always changing. Players graduate or turn pro and teams constantly have to adjust and reinvent themselves. For college football handicappers that can also be one of the most frustrating parts of the sport. It can be particularly challenging when the departing player is a successful quarterback that has been the face of his program. The typical reaction in these cases is to assume that the team is going to take a big step backwards.

2011 Arkansas Razorbacks Football Predictions and SEC Futures Odds
by Darin Zank - 7/26/2011
The Arkansas Razorbacks are a team on the rise, with an innovative coach and an offense that's fun to watch and tough to stop. Unfortunately, the Hogs play in the SEC, more specifically the SEC West, where Alabama, Auburn and Louisiana State, who have combined to win four of the last eight BCS National Championships, reside. So while 10 wins and a BCS bowl berth are all fine and dandy, the ultimate goal, an SEC Championship, is going to be hard to come by.

One would think that if UCLA is ever going to catch, much less pass, USC in the Los Angeles football sports landscape, that is almost has to happen in 2011. Why? The fallout from the Reggie Bush mess should be over for USC after this season, their second in a row where the Trojans can’t play in a bowl or be eligible to compete for a conference title (or, thus, play in the first Pac-12 Championship Game). West Virginia has been home to one of the premier football programs in the country for quite awhile. But over the course of the last few years the Mountaineers have moved in the direction of disarray, at least at the management level. Coach Rich Rodriguez skipped town in favor of Michigan four years ago as he was just ahead of NCAA investigators, but he didn’t last long with the Wolverines. Coach Bill Stewart followed with some success, but when he got word he had to take on an heir apparent, he reacted by allegedly asked reporters to dig up dirt on the new guy, and he was later forced to resign. So new Head Coach Dana Holgorsen takes over a turbulent situation in Morgantown.

There are four non-BCS football programs that consistently shine but have been consistently held back by ‘the system’. This year was the time to take action and do something about that, it seems. TCU and Utah couldn’t beat them, so they joined them. Boise State made a mostly pointless lateral move. BYU took the most radical and aggressive steps of all, though. While playing as an independent won’t do anything to secure them an easier road to the BCS, it will get them on national TV far more, and it gives them the freedom to schedule aggressively to catch the eye of the national media. It’s a huge risk, and this is our first chance to get a sense of whether it can possibly pay off.

2011 Colorado Buffaloes Football Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Darin Zank - 7/7/2011
The Colorado Buffaloes thought they had a chance last year to break out of their recent funk and maybe make a run at a berth in the Big 12 Championship Game, or at least make a bowl. Colorado had 17 starters back, including almost the entire offense, so improvement from going 3-9 the season previous was expected.

2011 Auburn Tigers Football Predictions and SEC Futures Odds
by Aaron Smith - 7/7/2011
At the end of the 2010 college football season, it was the Auburn Tigers who were crowned BCS National Champions. It was Auburn’s first national title since 1954. The chants of “War Eagle” were heard all over the country after Auburn beat Oregon in the BCS Championship Game. The Tigers went 14-0 as they were led by Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.

2011 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Football Predictions and ACC Futures Odds
by Dave Schwab - 7/7/2011
A mid-season three-game slide derailed a promising 2010 season for Georgia Tech, leading to a 6-6 regular season record overall and a 4-4 record in ACC play. Part of the unexpected downturn was an injury to quarterback Joshua Nesbitt that ground the Yellow Jackets’ high-powered offense to a halt. They finished the year ranked first in the nation in rushing yards per game, but 71st in scoring with just 26 points a game. The season ended on a sour note with a 14-7 loss to Air Force in the Independence Bowl.

2011 Mississippi State Bulldogs Football Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 7/7/2011
The last time we saw the Bulldogs they were blasting Michigan, 52-14, in the Gator Bowl and chasing Rich Rodriguez out of Ann Arbor. That seems like an eternity ago, but nobody around college football is about to forget that the Bulldogs vaulted themselves back into the national spotlight with their nine-win season and bowl win.

2011 Oregon State Beavers Football Predictions and Pac-12 Futures Odds
by Dave Schwab - 7/7/2011
The Pac-10 expanded to the PAC-12 with the addition of Colorado and Utah this past offseason, so Oregon State is now in the newly formed North Division with the likes of Stanford and Oregon. The primary goal for the Beavers this season will to get back to their winning ways after posting a 5-7 season and failing to qualify for a bowl in 2010. Even more disturbing was the fact they lost four of their last five games, including a 38-0 whitewash at the hands of the Cardinal and a 37-20 loss to the in-state rival Oregon.

2011 North Carolina Tar Heels Football Predictions and ACC Futures Odds
by Dave Schwab - 7/6/2011
North Carolina is already ahead of the game this season after last year was plagued with multiple player suspensions due to off-field academic improprieties. The loss of several key starters led to a 0-2 start and a disappointing 4-4 record in ACC play for a Tar Heel team that was touted in the preseason as one of the best in the conference. They were able to salvage a 8-5 record overall after beating Tennessee 30-27 in overtime in the Music City Bowl, but never really came close to living up to all the expectations.

2011 Utah Utes Football Predictions and Pac-12 Futures Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 7/6/2011
After several frustrating years toiling on the fringes, the Utah Utes have finally made it to the big time. That is, of course, if you still consider the Pac-10 (and now the Pac-12) to be part of the ‘big time’. The Utes are now playing for a guaranteed BCS spot if they win their conference, and they are good enough that you can’t entirely rule out the possibility that they will get it.

2011 Tennessee Volunteers Football Predictions and SEC Futures Odds
by Aaron Smith - 7/6/2011
The Tennessee football program has taken an absolute nosedive in the last three years. Between 1989 and 2007 Tennessee won at least eight games in 18 out of 19 years. In the three years since, the team has gone a combined 18-20. Everyone knew Derek Dooley was in for a long season in his first year at Tennessee in 2010. The Volunteers were actually a little more competitive than most thought, and the team definitely played hard for their first-year coach. While Dooley was given a pass by most in his first year at Tennessee, fans in Knoxville aren’t very patient, and they are certainly expecting much better things in the near future.

2011 Kentucky Wildcats Football Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Aaron Smith - 7/6/2011
It’s natural to think of Kentucky as a basketball school, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. However, Joker Phillips is doing his best to put the football program on the map. Excitement has been gradually building, and fans are hoping Kentucky can capitalize on a relatively weak SEC East in 2011. Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee aren’t nearly as powerful as normal, which leaves a little bit extra room for a team like Kentucky to make a surprising run.

2011 Stanford Cardinal Football Predictions and Pac-12 Futures Odds
by Trevor Whenham - 7/1/2011
Stanford is coming off a wildly impressive season that saw them finish with a dominating win over Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl. Now we get to see if they can stay among the elite or if they were just a flash in the pan. It doesn’t hurt that they have the best quarterback in college football under center for them, but he’ll have to work with a new head coach after Jim Harbaugh couldn’t resist the lure of the NFL.

2011 Missouri Tigers Football Predictions and Big 12 Futures Odds
by Darin Zank - 6/29/2011
Over the course of the last half-decade, Missouri Tigers football has experienced some of the best success in program history. Three double-digit-victory seasons in the last four years, wins over Big 12 powers Nebraska and Oklahoma, and six straight bowl bids, including a Cotton Bowl romp over Arkansas a few years back. But the thing that's eluded Mizzou is big-time success, in the form of a conference championship or a BCS bowl bid.

2011 Boston College Eagles Football Predictions and ACC Futures Odds
by Dave Schwab - 6/29/2011
The Boston College Eagles found themselves 2-5 midway through the 2010 season and mired with injuries on both sides of the ball. However, they turned things around by grinding out a 16-10 win over Clemson that triggered five straight wins to finish the regular season at 7-5 overall and 4-4 in conference play. Unfortunately, the season ended on a sour note with a 20-13 loss to Nevada in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. The stage, though, has been set for continued success in the ACC Atlantic Division in 2011.

2011 Nebraska Cornhuskers Football Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 6/29/2011
For college football purists, it will certainly take some time getting used to seeing Nebraska being mentioned amongst the other Big Ten heavyweights. Cornhusker fans can only hope this deviation from tradition worked out better than the move to a West Coast offense under Bill Callahan seven years ago.

2011 South Carolina Gamecocks Football Predictions and SEC Futures Odds
by Aaron Smith - 6/29/2011
It may have taken longer than most people expected, but Steve Spurrier has brought this South Carolina team back to national prominence. The Gamecocks made it to the SEC Championship Game last season, where they were blasted by Auburn. Though the Gamecocks did take a step forward and win nine games last year, the finish of the season was less than impressive. After being throttled by Auburn, they were beaten 26-17 by Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.

2011 Clemson Tigers Football Predictions and ACC Futures Odds
by Dave Schwab - 6/29/2011
The 2011 season could be make-or-break for the Clemson Tigers as the pressure is on for bigger and better things from a team that has underperformed in light of the actual talent it has. The past three seasons have yielded just one Atlantic Division title among expectations that the Tigers would be a legitimate contender for not just an ACC title, but a BCS title as well. Last season Clemson went in the wrong direction with a 6-6 regular season record overall and just four wins in the conference. The season ended with a 31-26 loss to South Florida in the Meineke Car Care Bowl to cap-off a disappointing year.

2011 NC State Wolfpack Football Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Dave Schwab - 6/29/2011
North Carolina State had a breakthrough season in 2010 with a 9-4 record overall and a 5-3 record in the ACC. The Wolfpack ended the season on a high note with a 23-7 victory over West Virginia in the Champs Sports Bowl as a three-point underdog. This followed a 6-7 campaign in 2008 and an even more disappointing 5-7 record in 2009.

2011 Washington Huskies Football Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Alan Matthews - 6/27/2011
If the Pacific 10 Conference had added Utah and Colorado even a few years ago and split into two divisions as it is doing starting this fall, then the South would have seemed the much tougher division with Utah, Southern Cal and to a lesser extent even Arizona. But there’s little question that the North should be the stronger division this season with powerhouse Oregon and a resurgent Stanford program with the nation’s best quarterback in Andrew Luck having returned to school.

2011 UConn Huskies Football Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Aaron Smith - 6/27/2011
Was Connecticut’s 2010 season a success or a failure? The answer isn’t particularly clear. The Huskies went to the Fiesta Bowl, but they were drubbed by Oklahoma in that game, and they finished with an 8-5 record in an extremely weak Big East Conference. The team actually lost money by appearing in the Fiesta Bowl because they couldn’t sell their share of tickets to Huskies faithful. The 2010 season was definitely a strange one for UConn.

2011 Florida Gators Football Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Alan Matthews - 6/20/2011
Depending on your perspective, the beauty or aggravation of being a college football fan and bettor is rather encapsulated in the Florida Gators. About this time two years ago, the Gators were being looked at as a potential dynasty. They were coming off their second national title under Urban Meyer and had practically their entire team coming back for 2009, including Gator legend Tim Tebow, who was among the favorites to win a second Heisman Trophy.

2011 Virginia Tech Hokies Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Alan Matthews - 6/17/2011
It’s not too often that you will say a team that had National Championship aspirations had a pretty good season after starting 0-2, including losing at home to a Division I-AA team. However, Virginia Tech did accomplish some pretty big things in 2010 despite doing exactly that.

College Football Predictions: Who Replaces Jim Tressel at Ohio State?
by Alan Matthews - 5/30/2011
The college football world shifted on its axis on Monday when Ohio State announced it had accepted the resignation of Coach Jim Tressel in the wake of Tressel’s cover up of NCAA infractions by some of his players. And it seemed something new leaked out about the program almost daily. So the Buckeyes brass essentially forced Tressel to quit – with all the negative publicity he probably would have been fired regardless even though Tressel was supported by his athletic director as recently as two weeks ago at the Big Ten meetings.

College Football Championship Predictions and BCS Futures Odds
by Dave Schwab - 5/24/2011
The first futures odds for the 2012 BCS Championship were actually released before the 2011 BCS title game between Auburn and Oregon was even played. Back in mid-January Bodog opened Oklahoma as the odds-on-favorite at 7/2 to win this year’s title. Four months later the odds have slipped back to 9/2, but the Sooners are still the early favorite to win it all.

Predictions for Where Jim Harbaugh Will Coach Next
by Trevor Whenham - 1/5/2011
Everyone loves a good coaching circus, and the one surrounding Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh is as good as any we have seen in a long while. Harbaugh is, to put it mildly, a hot commodity. If you watched the Orange Bowl on Monday night you have a good sense of why.
