Back to the Futures: NFC Playoff Picture Only Getting Fuzzier
by Ricky Dimon - 12/27/2012

With one week to go in the NFL regular season, the six AFC playoff participants and all four division winners have already been determined. With a streaking Denver squad hosting Kansas City in Week 17, its No. 1 seed is all but assured, and the odds have acted accordingly.

This Year in Sports Betting, A-Z
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 12/27/2012

D – Disney World. There may have been nothing more unintentionally funny than the Eli Manning “I’m going to Disney World” commercial from February. Manning is likely the first Super Bowl MVP to literally be more excited about going to an amusement park than winning a Super Bowl.

Case of the Tuesdays: Blue Christmas in New York
by Ricky Dimon - 12/25/2012

That the New York Jets missed the playoffs is hardly a surprise. But the Big Apple having not a single postseason participant this year? That is a concept that was — and still is — hard to believe. Barring a Christmas miracle, however, it is a week away from becoming a reality. The Giants, assuming they are left on the outside looking in, will become the second NFL franchise to miss the playoffs one season after winning the Super Bowl three different times (the G-Men have already done it after winning both XXI and XXV).

Back to the Futures: Mile High on a High after Ideal Weekend
by Ricky Dimon - 12/18/2012

Everyone assumed that it would take a while for Peyton Manning to find his rhythm and for the Denver Broncos to gel. But nobody could have anticipated the extent to which it has become a tale of two seasons in the Mile High City. Once 2-3, the Broncos are now 11-3 and in position for the No. 2 seed (and a first-round bye) in the AFC.

Case of the Mondays: Bucs, Giants Play Hot-Potato with the Football
by Ricky Dimon - 12/17/2012

Combined, the Bucs and Giants had as many turnovers on Sunday as Pittsburgh had in one game earlier this season. That doesn’t sound so bad at first mention…until you remember that said number is eight! Tampa Bay (five giveaways) and New York (three) were among three teams that did not score a single point yesterday. And that doesn’t even begin to cover all of the pathetic displays in Week 15 (Lions, anyone?).

Back to the Futures: Brady Bunch Sends a Monday Night Message
by Ricky Dimon - 12/11/2012

Proud franchises became even prouder over the course of the last week. Perennial Super Bowl contender New England cemented itself as the favorite for the Lombardi Trophy. Oklahoma City and San Antonio have won a combined 13 consecutive games. Manchester City held off its little brother to take a commanding lead in the Premier League. And the Dodgers are making no secret about their willingness to spend whatever it takes to secure another world championship.

Case of the Mondays: ‘Skins Catch a Break
by Ricky Dimon - 12/10/2012

For one fleeting moment, it looked like our nation’s capital was going to be saddled with a case of the Mondays that would be the standard by which all past, present, and future cases of Mondays would be judged. With the Redskins already trailing Baltimore 28-20 in the final minutes, RGIII suffered what looked like a serious leg injury. Instead of an unmitigated disaster, Kirk Cousins led the team to a critical comeback win and the MRI mercifully came back negative.

Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M

Back to the Futures: Here’s Johnny!
by Ricky Dimon - 12/4/2012

Heisman Trophy odds fluctuated wildly throughout college football’s regular season, with Geno Smith achieving borderline lock status after just a few games before Collin Klein assumed a similar mantle midway through the 2012 campaign. Now it’s Johnny Manziel out in front, as he has been since turning the Tide last month. Saturday’s proceedings in New York are expected to be a coronation of the freshman phenom, but stranger things have happened….

Case of the Mondays: Singing the Annual BCS Blues
by Ricky Dimon - 12/3/2012

Has any unbiased observer ever felt good the Monday after the BCS selections? It never ends well, and it certainly didn’t this year. Northern Illinois is in a BCS game. Louisville is in the Sugar Bowl instead of the Orange Bowl. Georgia isn’t anywhere to be found in BCS games. Neither are three other teams in the Top 10 of the BCS rankings.

by Nicholas Tolomeo - 11/29/2012

A – Autographs. After Denver's win at Kansas City on Sunday, Peyton Manning was asked for autographs and photo-ops – by two Kansas City Chiefs! And these weren’t just a couple clipboard holders asking Manning for some souvenirs, these were Jamaal Charles and Dwayne Bowe, the only two Chiefs worth a damn in fantasy football.

This Week in NFL Betting by the Numbers
by Ricky Dimon - 11/29/2012

Only five weeks remain in the NFL’s regular season. For some, that’s good news. For others, that’s great news. It’s a good thing for leaders of every AFC division other than the South (New England, Baltimore, and Denver) and Atlanta in the NFC North. All four of those teams can mathematically clinch division titles. It’s a great thing for cellar-dwellers like the Chiefs and Eagles, who can begin their driving-range sessions and start setting up tee-times.

This Week in College Football Betting by the Numbers
by Aaron Smith - 11/29/2012

It’s Championship Week in college football for quite a few teams across the country. We already know of one team that will be in the National Championship Game, but the second team remains undecided. The winner of the SEC Championship Game seems to be a shoe-in for the spot. A few weeks ago the SEC looked like it would be left out, but now many predict a seventh straight BCS Champion from the SEC.

Back to the Futures: College Football Picture Clearing Up
by Ricky Dimon - 11/27/2012

And then there were three. The BCS National Championship is all down to three teams, just as the Heisman Trophy race has been narrowed down to three players. Manti Te’o is still in the hunt for both pieces of hardware, but he’ll have to take down the SEC Champion for one and surpass a stud SEC quarterback for the other.

Case of the Mondays: Slip-sliding Away from Title Contention
by Ricky Dimon - 11/26/2012

They say one is the loneliest number. That may be true, but not when it comes to the BCS standings. The number is three; just ask the Florida Gators. They picked up another big win on Saturday, but they are third in the rankings, and that’s where they’ll remain when the championship matchup is determined. Although no fault of their own (aside from that turnover fest in an October loss to Georgia), the Gators could not have been feeling good when they woke up on Monday.

B – BCS. The combination of Kansas State losing to Baylor and Oregon losing to Stanford led a group of Alabama fans to celebrate (where else) in a Waffle House parking lot. This football season’s rollercoaster ride took a major turn upwards this past weekend with a 6-3 record that resulted in a final tally of +15 Units. Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by Trevor Whenham - 11/16/2012

The down cycle for the Public Action Report continued last week. Only a late rally by Virginia against Miami that earned a push avoided an 0-4 ATS weekend. The fundamentals behind this report have proven sound over the years, so this current month of frustration is just a reminder of how hard sports betting can be, and how important it is to maintain a long-term view when the short term sucks.

Fourth Down and Inches: Doc’s Weekly Football Betting Report
by Doc - 11/13/2012

Coming off a huge +20 Unit week, we felt confident the success was going to continue into Week 11 of the college football season, but it was not meant to be. We have had rough weeks before at Doc’s Sports Service with our football selections, and unfortunately we have to add last week to the list. The highlight of the week was the correct call on a 5-unit play on Nebraska’s come-from-behind victory over Penn State as a seven-point home favorite. It took a very late field goal by the Cornhuskers to cover the spread, so we even had to sweat that one out.

Case of the Mondays: The Tide Turns on CFB Undefeateds

It was a rough week in football for what we thought were really good teams. The 1972 Dolphins can sip champagne after previously 8-0 Atlanta went down. Fellow NFC titans Chicago (mustered six points against Houston), New York (dropped a stinker in Cincinnati), and San Francisco (tied with St. Louis) also floundered.

Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by T.O. whenham - 11/8/2012

It has been a frustrating time for the Public Action Report the last few weeks, and that frustration certainly continued last weekend. Things looked strong in early action on Saturday, but the right teams faded at the end of their games, and the later games were just plain ugly. In the end it was a 2-5 ATS weekend. If sports betting didn’t regularly test your patience and faith then everyone would do it, though, so all we can do is keep on keeping on. At 24-28 ATS all is not lost for the year — a couple of strong weeks and we are right back where we want to be. There are four games that fit the criteria this week — three in college football, and one in the NFL.

Fourth Down and Inches: Doc’s Weekly Football Betting Report
by Doc - 11/6/2012

It is a sure sign that November has arrived when it seems like, overnight, October turns into December-like weather with cold winds and snow flurries in the air. Over the years this has always been my favorite month of the year to handicap, and if last week’s results are a sign of things to come, then we are in for a monster month. It was a slump-buster to say the least with a 7-3 record that left us up 20 units for the weekend. This simply means that our $100 bettors walked away with a profit of $1,880.

Case of the Mondays: As Colts Persevere, Redskins Quit
by Ricky Dimon - 11/5/2012

It’s that time of year when football teams are starting to be left for dead. The top college contenders mostly stayed alive, with all four BCS leaders managing to pull out clutch victories. Fourth Down and Inches: Doc’s Weekly Football Betting Report
by Doc - 10/30/2012

It is hard for me to believe that the college football season just wrapped up its ninth week of action, but I am getting excited for a remarkable finish down the stretch. Doc’s Sports posted another sub-.500 finish this past Saturday with a 2-3 record on our top plays, including our highest-unit play on Oklahoma. We had the Sooners fired up at home to lay a beating on Notre Dame. And while they were able to move the ball up and down the field, it only led to an early 3-0 lead, and that is usually a recipe for disaster.

Case of the Mondays: NFL Coaches on the Hot Seat
by Ricky Dimon - 10/29/2012

It was a rough week on the field for the NFL. There weren’t that many exciting games and the losing teams of the week stole headlines from the winners. Philadelphia got clobbered by Atlanta and the undefeated Falcons were a non-story. The Jets laid an egg against Miami and the Dolphins received no credit whatsoever. The Giants held off Dallas to improve to 6-2, and the only question afterward was whether or not the Cowboys are finished.

It doesn’t take a long time for futures odds to be turned upside down; not when you have quarterbacks like Collin Klein, Eli Manning, and Aaron Rodgers on the scene. Just a few weeks ago, Geno Smith looked like a lock for college football’s biggest individual award. Now it’s Klein who has a stranglehold on the thing. It did not take long to find out how Baltimore would get by without injured defensive stars Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb. How about a 43-13 shellacking at the hands of Houston? Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by Trevor Whenham - 10/18/2012

Last week was a perfect example of why I love the Public Action Report. First, the record — a solid 3-1 ATS mark to bring the season mark to 19-14 ATS. That’s nicely profitable. More significantly, though, all three of those teams that covered — the Browns, Seahawks and Tulane — were outright winners as underdogs, and Tulane won as 17.5-point underdogs. Again we keep spotting these underdog winners that can be useful in so many different ways for creative bettors.

I’m sure you are familiar with the old saying “you can’t win them all “. Well, that pretty much sums up our picks from last week as nothing went our way on Saturday and our top college play of the week ended up way off the mark. The one thing we can hang our hat on was our correct call on the NFL game of the week with St. Louis. While we never like to head into a big weekend like the one with have planned coming off a down week, we also have not been successful in the sports selection business for over 40 years by resting on our laurels.

Back to the Futures: Yankee Implosion Impacts World Series Odds
by Ricky Dimon - 10/16/2012

Two of the biggest names and most well-respected leaders in sports are gone for 2012 (and maybe beyond). But that’s just about where the similarities end between Ray Lewis’ Ravens and Derek Jeter’s Yankees. The Ravens are still 5-1, tied with Houston for the best record in the AFC, and leading their division by two games. The Yankees, on the other hand, are 0-2 in the ALCS and facing three straight games in Detroit.

Case of the Mondays: Our Nation’s Capital in Mourning
by Ricky Dimon - 10/15/2012

Felix Baumgartner had a good weekend. Not only did he jump from space, but he also lived to tell about it! Baumgartner took the plunge off his capsule from 128,100 feet up in the air, approximately 24 miles. Initial estimates show the Austrian daredevil as having reached a maximum speed of 833.9 mph, which amounts Mach 1.24… ….Hey, that’s just about the speed at which the New York Yankees are exiting the 2012 MLB playoffs!

Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by Trevor Whenham - 10/12/2012

It was a mixed week for the Public Action Report last week. We had three covers in six games, including nice outright underdog winners in Navy (+8) and the Dolphins (+3). Two of the losses, though — Eastern Michigan vs. Kent State and the Jaguars vs. the Bears — were just massacres. The third — Illinois +13.5 at Wisconsin — only fell short thanks to a meaningless late touchdown by the Badgers. The 3-3 ATS record brings us to a still-profitable 16-13 ATS on the season.

Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray

This Week in Sports Betting, A-Z
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 10/10/2012

A – Aaron Murray. Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray returned to his apartment after an embarrassing 35-7 loss at South Carolina to find it had been egged and rolled with toilet paper. Murray was a horrendous 11-for-31 for 109 yards with an interception in the blowout loss. Of course, Murray shares the place with linebacker Christian Robinson, so perhaps the dairy and toiletry products were meant for him.

Fourth Down and Inches: Doc’s Weekly Football Betting Report
by Doc - 10/9/2012

Anyone that climbed aboard Doc’s Sports’ bandwagon last week enjoyed one heck of a ride with a 5-2 record that produced a return of +11 units, or $1,010 on $100 per-unit wagers. We went with Ohio State as our Top Play of the Week. And while it was a shaky start at first, the Buckeyes lived up to expectations by turning on the jets towards the end of the first half and keeping their foot to the floor until the final gun to cruise past Nebraska, 63-38, as 2.5-point home favorites.

Football Futures: Geno beats Bevo, Still on Course for Heisman
by Ricky Dimon - 10/9/2012

It was a relatively tame NFL weekend by the league’s lofty standards. Sure, the Colts-Packers thriller was entertaining and emotional, but Week 3 gave us about six games on par or even better than that one. Sunday featured blowout after blowout, to the extent that even Las Vegas didn’t have to do much breath-holding. Only one game was covered by fewer than three points (the Eagles were four-point underdogs in Pittsburgh and lost by just two).

Case of the Mondays: Nobody Has it Worse than Braves and Bills
by Ricky Dimon - 10/8/2012

Sure, some teams had a nice weekend. The Cincinnati Reds? Absolutely. College football teams that call one of the two Carolinas home? For sure. Many others, however, did not enjoy the same elation. The Atlanta Braves and Buffalo Bills often find themselves in the same sentence, and not for a good reason. Both franchises make losing championships look as routine as putting on socks (perhaps that belongs in past tense, since neither team plays in championship games anymore).

Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by Trevor Whenham - 10/5/2012

Last weekend was a perfect example of why I love the Public Action Report so much. It went a very nice 5-1 ATS to bring the season total to a nicely profitable 13-10 ATS. It was successful with a full range of teams — from very significant underdogs to a pretty solid favorite. It was another weekend that proves that you can learn a whole lot just from looking at what other people are doing.

Fourth Down and Inches: Doc’s Weekly Football Betting Report

We came into Week 5 of the college football season fresh off a 5-3 performance the weekend before that left us +11 units. This had us fired up to release our “College Game of the Year” for this past Saturday night’s Wisconsin at Nebraska game. Having been in the sports selection industry for well over 40 years, I have picked my fair share of winners.

Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by Trevor Whenham - 9/28/2012

We got lucky last week. We ended up just 2-2 against the spread on the four games highlighted in the Public Action Report. That’s a small loss thanks to the juice, but it could have been much worse if it weren’t for the replacement refs — Seattle was one of the teams identified in the report, so their botched call was our win. That brings us to 8-9 ATS on the year. That’s not where we want it to be yet, but the report has generally heated up as the season has progressed.

University of Arkansas head coach John L. Smith

This Week in Sports Betting, A-Z
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 9/26/2012

A – Alabama. John L. Smith has officially fallen off the wagon. And his rocker. The Arkansas coach is now 1-3, and during a recent press conference he mistook Arkansas for Alabama. Smith said, "Don’t give up on us. It's our program, it's a state of Alabama program." Smith probably wishes it was; No. 1 ranked Alabama pasted the Razorbacks 52-0 two weeks ago. With Smith at the helm, Razorback fans are likely razor blade fans right about now.

by Doc - 9/26/2012

Last week brought on another round of games in both college football and the NFL, as well as another winning performance by Doc’s Sports Services. We went 5-3 last week on our featured selections and ended-up +11 units, making this one of the best starts ever in over 40 years of handicapping the games. Weekly Football Betting Public Action Report
by Trevor Whenham - 9/20/2012

It wasn’t a perfect week last week for the Public Action Report. In fact, going 2-3 is a long way from perfect. The brightest spot from the report is that the Seahawks stood out as a pick against the Cowboys as underdogs, and they cruised to a convincing 20-point win. It’s interesting to note that Seattle shows up on the report again this week, so the public clearly doesn’t like that team as much as smart money seems to. In the first two weeks the Report has now gone 6-7 ATS, so it is taking a while to warm up as it has in the past.

A – Apathetic. The Jay Cutler is smoking Tumblr is slowly taking over the Internet. The site is a compilation of pictures of Cutler, who the site calls the most apathetic looking athlete in the history of sports, with a cigarette photoshopped in his mouth. At first glance it looks like Cutler is really smoking a cigarette. That is how much it looks like he doesn’t give a shit. Cutler is to quarterbacks what Jim Caldwell and Art Shell were to coaches.

The new football season is only a couple of weeks old and Doc’s Sports Services is already off to a fast start with a 6-2 record last weekend that left us +18 units utilizing our Unit Betting System. The first of two big plays last weekend was six units on Oregon State as a seven-point underdog at home against Wisconsin. The Beavers came through with a 10-7 straight-up win. Turning to Week 1 in the NFL, we went with five units on San Francisco as a five-point road dog over Green Bay. Rutgers WR Mark Harrison

This Week in Sports Betting, A-Z
by Nicholas Tolomeo - 9/5/2012

A – Alexander, Elton. A sports reporter with the Cleveland Plain Dealer actually predicted a Rutgers/Alabama college football National Championship Game. Elton Alexander and other sports reporters put their predictions in print for a respectable newspaper. What makes it even odder is that Alexander seemed to take chalk with everything else, picking Nebraska to win the Big Ten, Florida State to win the ACC, Matt Barkley to win the Heisman and Alabama to win the National Championship. But he picked Rutgers to face Alabama in the National Championship! His two colleagues, Doug Lesmerises and Bill Livingston, didn’t even have Rutgers winning the awful Big East.
