The 2014 Masters may be a place of redemption for one of golf’s biggest stars—the question, however, is which one? We all know the issues and pressure
surrounding Tiger Woods, but the PGA’s “next big thing”, Rory McIlroy, has quietly gone winless in the tour since 2012 and struggled through a
disappointing 2013 campaign that saw him walk off the course at the Honda Classic.
McIlroy’s 2014 hasn’t been any better as the 24-year-old was almost disqualified for violating a rule at Abu Dhabi in January, and he suffered another huge
collapse at the 2014 Honda Classic that recalled his now infamous 2011 Masters performance. The pressure may slowly be building for the young Irish golfer
to win another tournament, and finally live up to all that potential and hype that was bestowed on him in early 2011. Let’s take a closer look at McIlroy’s
2014 Masters’ odds with picks, analysis and predictions. All odds come from Sportsbook.ag.

Rory McIlroy 2014 Masters Story Lines
McIlroy is coming off another inexplicable collapse during the final 18 holes of a PGA tournament. The golfer went into the final day of the Honda Classic
with a 12-under par and two-stroke lead over Russell Henley, but he ended the day shooting a 74 with five bogeys, a double bogey and a comically-bad shot
during the final hole that set up a four-person playoff against Ryan Palmer, Russell Knox and Henley—who went on to win the tournament and qualify for the
If McIlroy had been able to hold on for the win, he would joined an exclusive list of players—Woods, Horton Smith, and Jack Nicklaus—to win seven or more
PGA Tournaments before the age of 25. The young golfer, however, does not turn 25 until May and will have a few more chances to enter that club, starting
with the Masters in April.
After the meltdown at the Honda Classic, McIlroy stayed composed and seemed to process the loss extremely well. He stood through Henley’s post-victory
speech and spoke to the media when he didn’t have to, and he even put the loss in prospective, stating that he didn’t deserve to win and would have
“counted myself lucky” if he had somehow managed to pull off a victory.
Rory McIlroy 2014 Masters Odds and Key Stats
McIlroy is currently receiving +1000 odds to win the 2014 Masters at Sportsbook.ag and trails only Tiger Woods, who is the favorite at +650. The former
major winner has played four events in 2014 and finished in the Top 10 in two of them. McIlroy is currently ranked 35th on the PGA’s yearly money list with
$854,500 in earnings through the beginning of March.
McIlroy averaged a 69.8 during his first four events of the year and was leading the Honda Classic heading into the final 18 holes of play. The young
golfer’s last tour victory was the PGA Championship back in 2012.
Rory McIlroy 2014 Masters Picks and Predictions
Even though McIlroy is still very young and on pace to have an excellent career, the pressure is slowly starting to build for the golfer to win another
tournament as well as another major. If history is any indication, McIlroy is still learning how to deal with the pressure and responsibility that comes
with being one of golf’s biggest stars. Receiving +1000 is simply not enough to justify a bet on young player who is in a bit of a PGA Tour drought.
McIlroy will win another PGA tournament soon, but the odds are it probably won’t be the Masters. There are many other players with much better value to
wager on during the event, and McIlroy’s odds are being drastically decreased because the oddsmakers know most of the money will come in on him and Woods.
