In terms of baseball betting systems, it is probably easiest to use an example:
1-Unit Play. Take #842 New York Mets (-150) over Atlanta Braves (1 p.m., Saturday, April 28)
In this instance we would be RISKING 150 TO WIN 100. The "150" is determined by the odds and the "100" is determined by the Unit rating. Multiply the odds by the Units (odds x Units) and that will give you how much you are going to bet on the selected team.
Here is another example:
If we were playing a 4-Unit selection on the Mets (-130) we would be RISKING 520 TO WIN 400. The "520" is determined by taking the odds (-130) and multiplying them by the Unit rating (4).
It is the same formula in the case of underdogs.
A 3-Unit Play on the Royals +160 means that we are RISKING 300 TO WIN 480. The "300" is determined by the fact that it's a 3-Unit play and the "480" is determined by using our formula (odds x Unit rating).
After you finish this MLB article check out our baseball betting lines page. When it comes to betting MLB our baseball whip terms feature is a must for any MLB baseball fan. Essentially, the Unit Rating is the amount that you will win if you are betting on a favorite and it is the amount you will risk if betting on an underdog. Here is also a simple chart to reference in case you get confused:
1-Unit Play. Mets (-150) over Braves = WIN (+100)
1-Unit Play. Mets (-150) over Braves = LOSS (-150)
1-Unit Play. Mets (+150) over Braves = WIN (+150)
1-Unit Play. Mets (+150) over Braves = LOSS (-100)
Remember, we are not encouraging all of our bettors to play $100 or $1,000 per Unit. If you're not sure how much you should be playing each Unit for, refer to our explanation on Doc's Unit System. In general, you only want to assign about 2-3 percent of your bankroll.
Hope this helps and best of luck. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact us at service@docsports.com.
