Even the coldest person on the planet, or the biggest fan of the Steelers of the Bengals, has to have some compassion for the messy situation the Cleveland Browns find themselves in. They have had a terrible season for 100 different reasons, all coming back to unrealistic expectations and incompetent coaching. The latest quarterback struggles go far beyond that, though, and far beyond what any team deserves. In consecutive weeks they have lost both the quarterback of the future, and the former quarterback of the future for the season.

I am a huge fan of the way Tampa Bay is playing this year, and I am not ashamed to admit it. I feel a bit like I should be, though. Everywhere you turn you read someone else saying that this team is no good. They are leading their division, and they have the second best record in the NFC, yet Sports Illustrated didn't even pick them to make the playoffs last week. I firmly disagree. This is a very good, undervalued team, and they are going to be playing in January. And causing some problems for opponents when they get there. Why am I so high on this team? Let's take a look:

Thursday NBA on TNT Preview: Spurs at Nuggets

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Denver Nuggets - after all, they gave away one of their best players, Marcus Camby, to the Clippers for next to nothing in the offseason. And it looked like it would be a long year in the Mile High City before the big trade that jettisoned Allen Iverson to Detroit and brought Chauncey Billups back home.

Thursday Night Football: Louisville at Rutgers

Charlie Weis and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will a have close eye on tonight's game, as a Rutgers victory over Louisville will give the Big East its full allotment of seven-win bowl-eligible teams and would send the 6-6 Irish scurrying to find another bowl. Also, if Rutgers wins, assuring it of a bowl berth, the Scarlet Knights would become just the seventh team in NCAA history to earn one after a 1-5 start. They are a 10.5-point favorite on BookMaker.

College Basketball Betting: Is Louisville Doomed?

What the heck was that? Louisville was the No. 3-ranked team in the country, and a popular early choice to be a No. 1 seed in March. They have four established guards, a near-certain lottery pick in forward in Earl Clark, and last year's High School Player of the Year at center. On Sunday night they played the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, a team best known for being the alma mater of the notorious Clem Haskins. The Cardinals were favored by 19.5 in the game, which was played in Nashville.

Dayton upset No. 15 Marquette, and with Xavier, remains undefeated in non-conference play. However, last week the Atlantic 10 as a conference went a woeful 2-14-2 against the spread. The conference managed to win only five games. Charlotte led the bankroll burners at 0-2 SU and ATS over the same time period as they extended their ATS loss streak to three games and a conference worst 2-5 record ATS.

Handicapping NFL Thanksgiving Games

It's almost Thanksgiving. Besides a turkey and mashed potato induced coma, Thanksgiving is all about football. There are three NFL games to watch this year. That means three games to handicap. For the most part handicapping these games is pretty much the same as any other game - it's still football, after all. There are a few things to consider, though, if you want to treat these games a little bit differently, and potentially give yourself a bit of an edge.

They have been the worst kind of soap opera this year. They are still right in the mix, though. They have the record to be a wild card team right now, though they would miss out if the playoffs started today thanks to tie-breakers.

NBA Betting: Nuggets Better Off Without Iverson

I'm a big Allen Iverson fan so I hate to admit this, but the Nuggets really seem better off without "The Answer" on the court. Denver has won eight of 10 since acquiring Chauncey Billups from Denver for Iverson. The only two losses have been totally acceptable, too - on the road to the equally hot Cavs and Lakers. They are 6-3-1 ATS in this new era. This streak has them precariously perched atop the Northwest Division and, for now anyway, comfortably in a playoff spot.

The Lakers and the Celtics are starting to prove to the rest of the NBA that if anyone wants to get to the Finals they need to knock off the defending Eastern and Western Conference champs. Boston and L.A. are a combined 23-3 straight up after their first 26 games and both teams are in first in their respective conferences.

Improved Heat Lacking in the Middle

Last season's 15-67 record for the Miami Heat was so mind-numbingly bad, people are still having trouble trying to figure out how a team with Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neil for most of the season just refused to win games. The Heat are assured to be one of the most improved teams this year just for the simple fact that anything is an improvement over 15 wins. This season after 13 games, the Heat are almost halfway there with a 7-6 straight up record.
