Your best source for winning sports picks including MLB baseball picks, NFL picks, and expert college football game predictions is now available.A Note From Doc ![]() Our company opened for business back in 1971. We were only one of a small number of sports handicapping services in existence at that time, and most of those have now fallen by the wayside. When you have been in the sports handicapping industry for more than 30 years, you definitely see some major changes. 2008 NFL Division Winners Futures Bettingby T.O. Whenham - 07/19/2008 With NFL training camps just around the corner now is the time we should be getting our head around how we think things are going to turn out by the time the playoffs roll around. That's easier said than done. A good place to start, though, and to get back into the swing of thinking about football again, is to look at the odds for each team to win their division. That way, you only have to look at four teams at a time - certainly manageable. Here's a first look at some of the potential opportunities for NFL division winners futures betting that jump out (all odds are from Sportsbook.com): Read more about NFL Division Winners. 2008 NFL Predictionsby Robert Ferringo - 07/18/2008 The best part about making NFL Predictions is that 99 percent of the general public forgets them before they are even done reading the article. If you don't believe me, then how do you explain the fact that Mel Kiper Jr., Sean Salisbury, Stink Schlereth and Joe Theismann still collect paychecks? Read more about NFL Predictions. ArenaBowl Dream Matchupby Max Powers - 07/18/2008 The 2008 ArenaBowl will feature two of the best teams in the Arena Football League, San Jose and Philadelphia. On July 27 these squads will face off in Bayou Country in New Orleans. The SabreCats will be looking for their fourth championship in the last seven years. They will also be going for back-to-back championships after their dominating ArenaBowl victory in 2007. The ArenaBowl had been plagued by some questionable matchups in recent years when the chalk was not able to emerge from the playoffs, but that will not be the case this season. Based on the way the early part of the week shaped up, it would have been interesting to see what kind of percentages a full slate of games would have returned. Suffice it to say that we are seeing a return to normalcy since the end of Interleague Play, and that means home dogs are usually a pretty solid play. Read more about Weekly Underdog Report. 2009 Super Bowl Predictionsby Robert Ferringo - 07/17/2008 It seems odd to be typing up Super Bowl predictions during the height of the July heat season. After all, it's generally winter warfare that determines which teams in the National Football League will hoist the Lombardi Trophy. But alas, the doors to training camp are about to creak open and it is time for some pre-practice Super Bowl predictions. Read more about Super Bowl Predictions. Can Any Pac-10 Clubs Unseat USC?by T.O. Whenham - 07/17/2008 Do you know what I am really sick of? USC constantly winning the Pac-10. The Trojans have been division champs six years in a row. I don't really have a problem with Pete Carroll and his boys, and I am certainly not one of their haters. I just really can't stand it when a team is able to reign virtually unchallenged for so long. Of course, some teams have risen up and given the team a scare from time to time, and they have shared the division lead three times, but there hasn't been a team that has been a consistent, legitimate threat. That needs to end. But it probably won't. Here's a quick look at possible Pac-10 contenders to see if any team can rise up. Read more about Pac-10 Contenders. Season Home Run Props Predictionsby T.O. Whenham - 07/16/2008 There is a rare break in the constant stream of action that makes up the baseball season, so it is a natural time to take a step back and evaluate where we are at. One thing that we can do now is consider who is likely to hit the most home runs on the season, and then to see if we can make some money from that belief. Bodog has odds listed for a dizzying number of players who have a shot at being the slugging king this year. Read more about Home Run Props. MLB Home Clubs Winning at Record Rateby Robert Ferringo - 07/15/2008 It's no secret that Major League Baseball teams have experienced unprecedented success at home this year. Home teams in the MLB are winning nearly 58 percent of all games played this year. If that mark stood it would be one highest clips in the last 75 years. The record for home winning percentage was set in 1931, when clubs won .582 percent of their games at home. The lat time since then that the league has topped .570 was back in 1978, when clubs took a W in .573 percent of their contests. Read more about MLB Home Teams. College Futures: Season Win Totalsby T.O. Whenham - 07/15/2008 College football is just around the corner, so it is a good time to look at college football season win totals. Looking at the totals this far after they have been released is mostly a frustrating situation - there isn't much value at all in the ones that seem to be the most straightforward or obvious. The only thing that makes sense to me in these situations is to look at teams that have an obvious public opinion one way that I don't necessarily share. That way you can find a nice big price that could be worth a shot, and I'd rather take a shot at a big price than a small one if my money is going to be tied up all season. Here are four that stand out as potentially worth a shot: Read more about College Football Season Win Totals. 2008 Home Run Derby Predictionsby T.O. Whenham - 07/14/2008 You may love the Home Run Derby or you may hate it, but there is no doubting that it is a spectacle. It is also something to bet on, and anything that you can bet on can't be all bad. The balls will be flying through the muggy air of Yankee Stadium tonight, so we better not waste any time in getting ready for the event. There are, as usual, eight guys in the field. It's a bit of an odd group in one sense, though - neither the defending champion nor the current home run leader is in the field - Vladimir Guerrero won last year, and Ryan Howard is the best at going deep so far this year, but neither is an All-Star this year. Whenham - 07/14/2008 I have a saying that I generally apply to All-Star games - I am more than happy to handicap them as long as I don't have to watch them. Tuesday's Midsummer Classic at Yankee Stadium is no exception to my rule. I don't get much of a thrill from watching pitchers who are used to pitching six innings at a time trying to get through one with the least effort possible, and I prefer to see guys at least a little disappointed when they strike out. There are odds, though, and that means that this mess of an institution is worth at least a little attention. Read more about MLB All-Star Game Predictions. Weekly MLB Underdog Reportby Matt Foust - 07/11/2008 This marks our sixth week of dog watching, and I am sad to report that they performed rather poorly the past seven days. In fact, this week was the worst of the six we have observed as the overall win percentage was just 33 percent. While that's not the equivalent of chewing up shoes and peeing on the carpet, it still doesn't make you happy. However, despite the lackluster returns, there were a few bright spots. Shepard - 07/11/2008 News that Tony Stewart is leaving Joe Gibbs Racing for 50 percent ownership in Stewart-Haas Racing might take the bite out of the bad luck that has been dogging Smoke all season with a return to Chicagoland Speedway on Saturday night, where Joliet Smoke is the defending two-time champion. Most Important Non-Conference Games For 2008by Robert Ferringo - 07/10/2008 There are a host of titillating interconference clashes on tap and at least two or three of them will have drastic and direct implications on the BCS Championship. Here are, in reverse order, the games that I believe represent the Top college football non-conference matchups of 2008: Read more about Non-Conference Games. BCS Predictionsby Robert Ferringo - 07/09/2008 The Bowl Championship Series is only slightly less controversial than the gun control issue, abortion, and the war in Iraq. And it's safe to say that no matter what BCS Predictions I make here there is one college football prediction that is a lock: we are destined to spend another fall debating the merits (or, actually, lack thereof) of the current system and pining for a playoff. Soon, multi-millionaire players for teams that still respect tradition will be living in dorm rooms in some sleepy college town, practicing once or twice a day, and getting ready for another year. It's a great time of year. As media scrutiny of the NFL has intensified, though, coverage of training camps have become more and more intense. That's mostly a good thing, but it can also be proof that there is such a thing as too much information. There are some things we hear out of training camps that are important aids to our handicapping process, and others that are absolutely meaningless and misleading. Read more about Handicapping NFL Training Camps. MLB Trendspottingby Josh Nagel - 07/09/2008 With the All-Star break right around the corner, it's time to assess the big winners and losers of the first half of the season, and see what might be a prelude of things to come. Already, some teams are going into the "buy or sell" mode that determines whether they believe they can contend this year or must start building for the future. Of course, these big deadline trades will have an effect on the value of all teams. Read more about MLB Trendspotting. Major College Football Programs With QB Concernsby T.O. Whenham - 07/09/2008 This is a scary time of year for fans and backers of several college football teams. The season is just around the corner, and some teams have way more questions than answers when it comes to their quarterback. Starting a freshman quarterback, or an older guy who is totally inexperienced, is frightening. It can turn out way better than you could ever dream, as it did for Oklahoma with Sam Bradford. On the other hand, it can be a disaster - Jimmy Clausen at Notre Dame leaps into mind. These new starters can be a real headache for bettors as well. Read more about QB Issues. My Thoughts on the Sabathia Tradeby T.O. Whenham - 07/09/2008 By now the trade of CC Sabathia to the Brewers for three prospects and a player to be named later is old news. Heck, Sabathia has already made his first start. He pitched okay on Tuesday night, and he won, but it was only against the Rockies and he walked as many as he struck out (five), so it is too early to make a judgment based on direct evidence. If you are a committed baseball bettor, though, then I am sure you have run over this thing every which way in your mind. Now that a couple of days have passed, it's time for me to collect my thoughts about the deal from a betting perspective together. Read more about Brewers Trade. BetUS Posts Tons of Brett Favre Propsby BetUS - 07/09/2008 Ever since he announced his retirement speculation has swirled regarding whether Brett Favre would actually stay retired. Sabathia Trade May Offer Fade Opportunitiesby Robert Ferringo - 07/08/2008 Obviously everyone knows that C.C. Sabathia was traded from Cleveland to Milwaukee on Monday for prospects. And for these hillbillies and sodomites college football season never really ends. It just takes a six-month TV timeout. And instead of taking a trip to the john or grabbing another cold beer, the hibernation of their National Sport of the Confederacy simply gives these folks an opportunity to brag up their teams and make wild and baseless college football predictions for the upcoming fall. Weekly MLB Underdog Report by Matt Foust - 07/04/2008 This week the underdogs continued to generate more bang for fewer bucks. The last couple of weeks have been strong for the perceived weak and this week was no different. At one point, line dogs won 17 games in 30 opportunities with returns ranging anywhere from +100 to +159. Not too bad for a couple of days work, let's see how they fared in the other five days. It's a major, so Tiger will put together two uninspiring days Thursday and Friday, make a move Saturday, and be the lone man standing Sunday. No Sweat. Oh wait, the golf world changed, didn't it? Handicapping majors now involves thinking. Damn. Read more about British Open Betting. Top 10 MLB Trades That Have Worked by Robert Ferringo - 07/04/2008 During the Major League's offseason there are hundreds of hours spent by baseball folk - that's fans, teams, agents, players, and other suits - obsessing and opining over each and every trade that is suggested, attempted or completed. The Hype Machine works overtime during the winter months as America's Ex-National Pastime desperately tries to stay relevant alongside the vicious onslaught of the National Football League. However, it seems like every year, with few exceptions, once we get elbow-deep into the actual season not many people take a look back and accurately assess how these trades worked out and who really got the better of the deal. I just can't think of too many off the top of my head. With a win on Monday the Diamondbacks moved to the dizzying heights of one game above .500. That would be good enough for fourth in four divisions, and third in the other. In the National League West their .506 mark is good for a 3.5-game lead. That is, in a word, pathetic. It seems like it has been an eternity since the best sport there is has been in action, but the season is just a couple of months and a few sunburns away. As we are waiting for the season to get started, now is a good time to look at teams that may not be getting the respect that they deserve. To do that, I took a look at the prices assigned to teams regarding their chances of winning the national championship. I'm not suggesting for a second that any of these teams are going to win it all, but by looking at where they fit in compared to other teams we can get a sense of what people are thinking and whether the teams get enough respect. Whenham - 07/03/2008 Now that everything but baseball is out of the way - the playoffs, the drafts, the races, and the tournaments - the biggest task that faces most sports bettors is to get ready for the NFL season. The NFL is the undisputed king of sports, and it's the only one that most sports bettors care about. Even if you are just a casual NFL bettor there is a lot you can do now that will make you more prepared, and more likely to win, when the season finally gets here. Here are five ideas to get you started: Read more about NFL Preperation. UFC 86 Predictions by T.O. Whenham - 07/03/2008 The UFC returns to action on Saturday with UFC 86. It isn't the highest profile card, and casual fans probably aren't that excited, but there is more than enough intrigue and uncertainty to make this one have real potential. Here are my UFC 86 predictions for the main highlights of the card. All odds are from 5Dimes. Read more about UFC 86 Predictions. Coke Zero 400 Odds and Predictions by Christopher G. In those days just before the baseball season began the Central Division of the American League seemed very straightforward. The Tigers had an impressive, expensive payroll without a serious hole, and the Indians had incredible pitching and solid bats. It seemed clear to almost everyone that it was a two-team race. Some liked Detroit and others liked Cleveland, but pretty much everyone liked one or the other. It hasn't quite worked out that way. Read more about AL Central. The AFL Playoffs: Dogs Have Their Day by Max Powers - 07/01/2008 The Wild Card Weekend of the Arena Football Playoffs was completed last week and the underdogs dominated, covering all four games and winning three of them straight-up. The AFL playoffs follow the NFL prototype with six teams in each conference making the playoffs and the top two seeds in each earning a bye. That being said, a major difference is that there are only 17 teams in the AFL compared to 32 teams in the NFL and thus some undeserving teams made it to the playoffs. This includes Arizona hosting a playoff game after a stellar 8-8 season and three, yes three 6-10 teams making it into the big dance as well. Read more about AFL Playoffs. Sports Betting on the Web by Robert Ferringo - 07/01/2008 Back in The Day - when disease-free meant that you didn't have the flu (or polio) and odds and wagers were tabulated on the dusty chalkboard in the corner - sports gamblers really were at the whim of two men: the sportsbook owners at Las Vegas casinos or the iron numbers of their local bookie. In many corners of this fine nation the smoky back room bookie still has a corner on the market. However, given the omnipresence of the Internet in this country, sports betting on the Web has forever altered the landscape of gambling. Read more about Sports Betting on the Web. Twins Do Well Under the Radar by Robert Ferringo - 06/30/2008 Minnesota was one of the three teams that I had pegged at the start of the year as one of my "Teams To Follow", meaning that I was confident that those three clubs would turn a profit and far exceed expectations on the season. I saw it. I knew. I felt the vibe of those wacky Minnesotans. So their recent run at the top spot in the American League Central really isn't the least bit surprising.
