We were only one of a small number of sports handicapping services in existence at that time, and most of those have now fallen by the wayside. When you have been in the sports handicapping industry for more than 30 years, you definitely see some major changes. This Week in Betting, A to Zby T.O. Indy 500 Accidents by T.O. Whenham - 05/16/2008 The Indianapolis 500 features 33 cars running at an average speed of about 150 miles per hour, and they all want to win. It's not a wonder that there are often accidents, and that those Indy 500 accidents often don't end well. No one wants to see anyone get seriously hurt or worse, but most sports fans would be lying if the said that they didn't tune into the Indy 500 at least partly so that they can see some wrecks. When it comes to Indy 500 accidents there have been some real doozies through the years. This may be the most morbid article I have ever written, but here is a look at some of the more remarkable Indy 500 accidents over the years. Read more about Indy 500 Accidents. Indy 500 Drivers by T.O. Whenham - 05/16/2008 The 92nd Indianapolis 500 is on Sunday, May 25. For the Indy 500 drivers, and those who want to be, the month leading up to the race is the ultimate endurance test. The three weeks before the big race involves practice, times trials, qualification, and the most scrutinized open wheel racing gets all year. This year, as always, there are more potential Indy 500 drivers than there are spots in the race. There are 33 spots in the starting grid, and there are 37 entered drivers and four more cars without designated drivers that are all vying to be there when the race finally gets underway. Those potential Indy 500 drivers and their teams are: Read more about Indy 500 Drivers. Indy 500 Rules by T.O. Whenham - 05/16/2008 The Indianapolis 500 is a major sporting event, and as such it has it's own intricate set of rules. Most of them don't matter unless something strange or unlikely comes up, but there are a few Indy 500 rules that fans should be familiar with. Here. then, is your quick Indy 500 rules primer: Read more about Indy 500 Rules. MLB Trendspotting by Josh Nagel - 05/15/2008 I'm here to make this early-season MLB betting resolution: I'm officially done betting against the Tampa Bay Rays. Not that I have the money to fire against them even if I wanted to; my wallet already is empty as a result of this unfortunate habit. What a devil of a team they have been thus far, especially if you had your cash on the opposition. Read more about MLB Trendspotting. Indy 500 Track by T.O. Whenham - 05/15/2008 The Indianapolis 500 is the most famous open wheel car race in the world, and part of what makes it so special is the tradition and mythology that surrounds it. The Indy 500 track is the place that everyone who has ever got behind a wheel and dreamed of going fast has imagined themselves on. Read more about Indy 500 Track. Indy 500 Facts by T.O. Whenham - 05/15/2008 The Indianapolis 500 is as much a part of the Memorial Day weekend as the stars are part of the American flag. If you are a sports fan then chances are pretty good that you will probably watch at least some of it. Because it falls on a long weekend you will probably also be sitting around drinking beer with friends at some point. When that time comes you can either impress them or convince them you're a big geek with this list of 25 fun Indy 500 facts and Indy 500 tidbits: Read more about Indy 500 Facts. Indy 500 Winners and Speed by T.O. Whenham - 05/15/2008 With the exception of a couple of breaks during the world wars, the Indianapolis 500 has been run since 1911, and winning it has been the biggest accomplishment in North American racing since then. Here's the list of men that can call themselves Indy 500 winners and the average speeds they traveled at: Read more about Indy 500 Winners and Speed. Home Court Huge in This NBA Playoffs by T.O. Whenham - 05/14/2008 I know that home court advantage is supposed to be significant in the NBA, but this is getting just plain ridiculous. As of Tuesday night there have been 18 games played in the second round of the playoffs. The home team has won 17 of them. Detroit is the only team to take a game on the road, and they won't get a chance to win another in the round because the one road win was enough for them to win the series against Orlando in five games. Seventeen of 18 - I would argue that such a lopsided result would be impossible, except it's happening. Read more about Home Court NBA Playoffs. Indy 500 Futures Odds by Robert Ferringo - 05/14/2008 The 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 25 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana. And while there is still two full weeks of prep and practice leading up to one of the most hallowed venues and events in American sports history it's never too early to size up the field and Indy 500 futures odds to try and decipher what will occur on the Brickyard's 2.5-mile oval. It only makes sense because teams play so many games each year. As I write this Tampa Bay has the longest active winning streak, and Florida just ended one that was quite a bit longer. (I had to read that sentence over several times because it seemed so bizarre, but I assure you that it's true) As a bettor it can be very difficult to figure out how to handle streaks. Optimists would believe that a streak is bound to continue and would look to continue to cash in on it until it ends. Read more about MLB Streaks. MLB Run Line Betting by Matt Foust - 05/14/2008 We're almost a month and a half into the baseball season and now is a good time to examine MLB run line betting. In order to do that it might be best to explain exactly what that is for those of you who are not familiar with the idea. Read more about MLB Run Line Betting. Marlins Making Massive Profits for Backers by T.O. Whenham - 05/14/2008 Here are two things that I never thought I would be writing this season - The Florida Marlins have the second best record in the league, and they have been the most profitable team in the league for bettors. On the profit front it isn't even close - they have made three units more than any other team on flat bets (the fact that the Rays are second is another thing that makes no sense at all). This was not a team that people were excited about in any way. They lost 91 games last year, and that was with Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis in the lineup. Read more about Florida Marlins. Heisman Trophy Futures Betting by Tony Corleone - 05/13/2008 Each passing year the tradition of the Heisman Memorial Trophy grows. John W. Heisman was a man who studied the dynamics of football, its evolution, and knew everything there was to know about the gridiron. He helped the game's development and will be forever memorialized with a trophy. The Heisman is an award that goes to the most outstanding college football player of the year.
