If you can’t decide between the Steelers or Seahawks in Super Bowl XL, but have a good feeling about what John Madden’s first words might be or which offensive lineman will get flagged first for holding, you can still put a few bucks in your pocket.
Maybe you even like one of the teams, but simply need more action than possible with just one point spread and point total. If so you are in luck as there are literally hundreds of game and player props available to whet your gambling appetite on Super Bowl Sunday

In fact, the props available extend well beyond the game itself and offer the rabid gambler enough action to cause some sort of overdose. Thanks to the emergence of Internet wagering and the resulting competition you can bet on virtually anything that might happen on Super Sunday beginning with the coin toss, which like a spin of the roulette wheel is a 50-50 proposition – minus the vig of course.
“We expect well over $2 Million in handle on our player and team props this year with the most popular being of course the coin toss. We should receive well over $100,000 on this alone,” said Bodog spokesman Greg Jorssen. “The most popular team prop from last year, as well as this year thus far, is the margin of victory prop. Right now our bettors believe the Steelers will run away with it and win by 22 or more points, which is paying 5-1.”
Jorssen said the bulk of prop action comes from recreational players but the Super Bowl is the one time of year when the Sharps will look to take advantage of weak prop lines. At Bodog, he said, props are planned well in advance of the Super Bowl which explains some of the unique wagering opportunities that are available.
“We plan our props months in advance, trying to come up with unique ideas year after year. One prop we put up this year, which is extremely hard to handicap, is the over-under length of the National Anthem,” Jorssen said. “The one we just put up today is who the MVP will thank first, his teammates, God, his family, or does he thank anybody?”
Pinnacle Sports is taking action on the first phrase to be uttered by Madden following the opening kickoff. ‘Heck of A” and “Big time” are co-favorites in the wagering at +$286 for $100. “Horsecollar” is +470, “Manhandled” will get you +561, “Boom” +989, “Wham” +1070. If you think its more likely Madden doesn’t say any of these things the entire game you can get +380 for your $100 bill.
At Betcom you can wager on who will be the first interior offensive lineman to get snagged for holding with Alan Faneca and Walter Jones even-money favorites followed by Marvel Smith and Chris Gray at better than 4-1.
Seattle’s Shaun Alexander is the favorite to score the first and last touchdown of the game at most sites which is somewhat surprising since the Seahawks are at least 4-point dogs in the game.
So you’re really not sure of who will score first but you just know it will be a player with an even number on his jersey. That will get you +210 at Betcom, with odd the heavy favorite at –250. Betcom goes on to explain that should a player switch their jersey number during the game the wager will be decided on the actual number on the jersey when the points are tallied.
Bodog is offering player props that pit NBA player performance against Super Bowl performances beginning with Kobe Bryant against the Hornets the day before.
You can take Kobe +5.5 points in a wager asking which will be higher – the Laker star’s point total the night before against the Hornets or the final point total in Super Bowl XL. If the 47 posted by bookies is on the mark, Bryant would need 42 to make this one a winner.
Bodog is also offering over-unders on a number of Super Bowl participants.
The over-under on pass attempts by Seattle QB Matt Hasselbeck is 33, completions 21 and total passing yards 235. If you think Hasselbeck can pass for 301 or more yards Bodog will give you $350 for $100.
For Ben Roethlisberger the totals have been set at 26.5 for attempts, 16.5 for completions and 222.5 for total yards.
At SportingbetUSA you can bet on the exact number of points each team will score. If the chalk is on the money the final score will be Pittsburgh 27 or 28 to Seattle 20 or 21, with 27 or 28 paying 10-1 for the Steelers and 20 or 21 returning 8-1 on Seattle.
If you think there will be – or won’t be for that matter – three unanswered scores at any point in the game you can place your bet at Betcris where no, there won’t be 3 unanswered scores, will get you +125.
A successful 2-point conversion at some point during the game will get you 4-1 odds, while a bet against such an outcome will require a stake of $600 to win $100.
For those who really don’t give a damn about the game but feel compelled to wager a few bucks so they can feel like the majority of Super Bowl revelers, Pinnacle will let you bet on the Nielson rating the game will generate as well as who will win the USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter title. The favorite here is Anheuser-Busch at –241, with the longest shots on the board being Unilever, Subway and Emerald Nuts, each at a hefty 25-1.

If a lack of betting action during the half-time show leaves you flinching and ticking in withdrawal, all you have to do is tune in to Lingerie Bowl III, this year’s event being sponsored by Bodog, which of course is taking action on the event.
“We have a few props up for the Lingerie Bowl that will be played at half time and they have received higher than expected wagers thus far,” Jorssen said.
