Bookmaker's Corner: UFC 115: Liddell vs. Franklin Odds
by Richard Gardner, Bookmaker, Bodog Sportsbook - 6/11/2010
The city of Vancouver has had a big year. A few months ago the Winter Olympics visited British Columbia. This Saturday it’s UFC 115, headlined by Chuck Liddell and Rich Franklin in the main event.
We’ll be posting plenty of MMA props to go along with our regular odds at Bodog’s online sportsbook. Our typical MMA props ask the following three questions: Who will win the fight of the night? Who will win the knockout of the night? And, who will win their bout in the fastest time?
A couple of weeks ago, in UFC 114, the fight of the night went to Antônio Rogério Nogueira and Jason Brilz at +700 odds, so the payout on these types of wagers can be quite significant.
The KO of the night also paid out +700, and the story behind it represented why mixed martial arts has grown in leaps and bounds in terms of popularity. Mike Russow’s knockout of Todd Duffee was so unexpected that fans were left simply shocked when it happened. Here was a guy in Russow with, let’s face it, a soft, flabby body fighting a ripped specimen in Duffee, and barely hanging on right off the bat. But Russow did hang on until the third round, and that was when he summoned all his strength and caught Duffee with a tremendous punch, knocking the muscle-bound fighter out on his feet. Oh, and he did it all with a broken arm. Forgot to mention that.
On Saturday in Vancouver, if only because of his star power, Liddell will receive a fair share of the action for knockout of the night. That said, Liddell’s lost four of his last five fights, and you can’t win KO of the night if you don’t win the actual fight.
Another fighter who will be a popular pick in that particular prop is Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic. The deadliest parts of the Croatian’s arsenal are his legs, which have kicked many a fighter into unconsciousness.
One long shot you might consider is Rory MacDonald, who hails from a B.C. town called Kelowna, located just a few hours away from Vancouver. You can bet MacDonald will be fired up and in a mood to impress the home fans in his fight with Carlos Condit.
Bodog’s got all of your UFC 115 props so be sure to visit the Bodog Sportsbook before the big event on Saturday.
