World Cup Final Betting Props: Spain Vs. Netherlands odds
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 7/9/2010
Much to the chagrin of soccer fans everywhere, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa is drawing to a close. On Sunday in the final, favored Spain will take on the Netherlands in an all-European battle between two countries looking for their first world title. As it’s been all tournament long, I expect our World Cup props board will be busy with bettors looking for fun and profitable ways to bet on the game.
For example, the player expected to open the scoring is none other than Spain’s David Villa at 10/3. After Villa, it’s teammate Fernando Torres at 5/1 followed by Holland’s Robin Van Persie at 11/2. Of note, we’ve already booked a significant amount of action on Dutchman Wesley Sneijder at 9/1. Sneijder’s been unexpectedly on fire during the competition, hitting the back of the net five times, which ties him with Villa for the most goals in the World Cup. Bettors are loving the fact they can get a guy in such form and playing with such confidence at a number like 9/1.
We’re also getting some good action on our alternative totals prop. As I’ve been telling you since the start of the tournament, bettors have been hammering the under in almost every game that’s been played. It’s gotten to the point where we’ve got quite a few players who are taking the under 0.5 at a juicy payout of +650. Frankly, it’s tough to tell them they’re wrong to take a shot. Neither Spain nor Holland has been particularly potent – they’ve both been great defensively – so a nil-nil regulation draw wouldn’t shock anyone. Of course, if you’re one of those contrarians, you can always take the over 4.5 at +1000, but we’ve haven’t had much interest in that option yet.
For those bettors who aren’t even patient enough to wait for the first goal of the game, you can always bet on the first corner kick of the match. Spain is the -130 favorite in this prop while the Netherlands is at +100.
As for how the final’s going to being decided, the favorite is Spain in 90 minutes at 11/10. But don’t count out the possibility of penalty kicks. Either a Spain or Holland victory in penalties is available at 9/1. The most unlikely method of victory? The Netherlands in extra time at 14/1.
