Huge NBA Betting Sunday Coming Up
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 3/5/2011
We’re expecting one of the busiest NBA betting days of the year this Sunday at Bodog as four nationally televised games featuring some of the public’s favorite teams to wager on are scheduled back-to-back-to-back-to-back.
It all starts on ABC at 1pm ET when the Miami Heat hosts the Chicago Bulls. That game is followed by the Lakers-Spurs in San Antonio at 3:30 pm ET, also on ABC. After that, it’s the Knicks at the Hawks on ESPN at 6:30 pm ET. And finally, the Bucks welcome the Celtics to Milwaukee at 9pm ET on ESPN.
It’s always a challenge for bookmakers on big betting days like these. Not only do we have to set lines that will balance the action prior to all of the games tipping off, we also have to stay on our toes as games end and bettors roll over their winnings or chase their losses. Not that we’re complaining.
It’s tough to tell say which of the four contests on Sunday will receive the most action. The Heat-Bulls and Lakers-Spurs games are each battles between two of the elite teams in the NBA, while the Knicks always attract a lot of action because they’re from New York (even if they’re only playing Atlanta) and the Celtics-Bucks game is the last chance of the day for bettors to come out on top.
NBA betting interest as a whole has been on the rise at Bodog as the teams battle down the stretch to the playoffs. We’re fortunate at the moment that there are only a handful of teams that have no real chance of qualifying for the postseason. Thinking back to last year when the eight playoff spots in the Western Conference were wrapped up well before the end of the season, it was tough to get bettors interested in teams that were just playing for pride. The playoff race in the East wasn’t much better either. Hopefully things stay a little tighter this season and we can see some real fights to the finish.
We’ve also been given a real shot in the arm with the trade of Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks, a move that’s seriously rekindled NBA interest in the Big Apple. Everyone knows that it’s important for the league that basketball is on the minds of New York sports fans. At the same time, we’re well aware that when the millions of New York sports fans are watching their teams play, they’re often betting on them.
