Briggs was scheduled to defend the championship against Ibragimov on March 10, but the bout was postponed after Briggs suffered from an pneumonia.
Oscar De La Hoya, who's also no slouch in the ring, says the big Russian is primed to take the WBO title from Briggs.
"We're confident that Ibragimov is the next heavyweight champion of the world, and we're eager to see him beat Shannon Briggs and put the championship belt around his waist," said De L Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions, one of the fight's promoters.
"He dominated Javier Mora with a quick 46-second knockout in the first round of his last fight, and we know he is ready for his fight against Briggs," continued De La Hoya.
But Briggs (48-4-1, 42 KOs) is also very motivated, not just because Saturday's match is his first defense of the heavyweight title, but also because he has been unmercifully mocked by Ibragimov's team for missing the earlier scheduled bout.
Briggs claims a pneumonia diagnosis, combined with a lifelong battle with asthma, made it impossible to fight Ibragimov in March.
Ibragimov (20-0-1, 17 KOs) is a 32-year-old southpaw who won a silver medal in the 2000 Olympics.
The fight is scheduled for 9 pm ET on Saturday.
