On Monday, audio reportedly recorded during Simpson's confrontation with the memorabilia dealers and law enforcement officials was making its way around the World Wide Web.
In the audiotape, first posted by the celebrity news website TMZ.com, a voice purported to be Simpson's is heard yelling questions while other men shout orders to the men he accused of stealing his memorabilia in a room at the Palace Station casino-hotel.
TMZ said the recording was made on a handheld recorder belonging to Thomas Riccio, co-owner of the auction house Universal Rarities.
On Saturday, Simpson, 60, told the Associated Press that the dispute was merely a confrontation with no guns. He said autographed sports collectibles, his Hall of Fame certificate, and a photograph with former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover were his, and that they were stolen from him and were about to be fenced by unethical collectors.
He said he didn't call police because he has found them unresponsive since his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, were killed in 1994.
