Antonio Tarver Avenges Defeat Again!
by Jeremy "Fasttalker" Bjornberg - 06/22/2005

This weekend's rematch between Light Heavyweights Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson was almost a mirror image of the first fight except for Tarver winning a few more rounds. Antonio Tarver probably won by about three points but that is not to say Johnson did not have his moments. Antonio Tarver used a superior work rate to his first performance and also mixed in a lot of combinations. Tarver was exhausted at the end of round 11 as Johnson battered him but he regained his composure to take the 12th round. The winner is rumored to be fighting Roy Jones Jr. again but I suspect these two will do it again instead. As usual Doc's was right on the money as they picked the over on rounds and predicted a close but unanimous win for Antonio Tarver, which was exactly what happened.

The undercard featured the U.S. comeback for Ike Quartey as he took on the rugged and highly-ranked Verno Phillips. Ike was in total control and looking quite impressive until he ate a left hook and was put on his bosom. Ike came back to take the final round and still won a close fight on the cards. Ike is still going to be competitive with anyone at 154 and he actually makes for a few intriguing matchups, most interesting being a rematch with Fernando Vargas. Don't miss out on Doc's Undisputed pick this week as Doc's uncovered a ridiculous play for this weekend's battle between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Arturo Gatti.

The 140-pound championship fight between Gatti and Mayweather is highly anticipated and will be shown on HBO pay per view on Saturday. The sportsbooks have missed a few key angles on this fight and we have been able to take advantage by analyzing every viewpoint possible.

Mayweather has badmouthed Gatti the entire buildup for this fight and his lack of class is always evident. Mayweather seems to think the only way to promote a fight is to badmouth the opponent, but it has not worked so well so far as Mayweather is the top athletic talent in boxing but his mouth and attitude have done him no favors. Gatti is one of the classiest fighters in boxing and he has even bit his tongue about Floyd, which must be tough with all the domestic Floyd has been charged with.

The undercard this weekend features Vivian Harris in a tuneup and possible preview of a fight with the winner of the main event.
