Brewster throws his hat into the true heavyweight championship picture
WBO heavyweight title holder Lamon Brewster added another impressive victory on his resume by stopping Luan Krasniqi in round 9. Lamon went to Luan's hometown and was thoroughly outboxed until he finally landed some lumber in round 8, dropping the challenger. Lamon then got into gear in round 9 and stopped the tough challenger. Lamon definitely deserves to be the 2nd ranked heavyweight, and has a serious chance at earning the #1 spot. Source:Doc's Sports
Time to Shine…
On Oct 1 Larry "The Legend" Donald will venture over to Germany when fights Nikolay "The Beast from the East" Valuev in a WBA Heavyweight Title Eliminator at the EWE-Arena in Oldenburg. Valuev will put his WBA Intercontinental belt on the line for the eliminator bout, in hopes it will open the door for a mandatory fight with John Ruiz currant WBA belt holder.
Donald (42-3-0, 24 KO's) has gone 4-2-2 since fighting to a draw in late 2000 with Obed Sullivan in Las Vegas. This will be his fourth trip aboard fighting in Denmark (W-Cleveland Woods-1997), Argentina (W-Jeff Paul Lally-1997), Germany (L-Vitali Klitschko-2002).
Valuev (41-0-0, 31 KO's) won the Vacant WBA Intercontinental title in November of 2004 having defended the belt twice. He calls St. Petersburg, Russia home having traveled to Germany many times to fight. Having beat people up in Russia he has not been afraid to take his show on the road fighting in Korea, Ukraine, USA, Japan, Australia, and England. Source: EastSideBoxing.com
Let the Games Begin…
Ricky Hatton's camp have disputed claims by Frank Warren that he has a legally-binding agreement to promote the world champion's future fights. Ray Hatton, Ricky's father and business manager, told BBC Sport that Warren threatened legal action if they would not confirm an ongoing agreement. Hatton's camp insist any contract with Warren expired after Hatton's world title win over Kostya Tszyu in June. Hatton's lawyer, Gareth Williams, told BBC Sport he received a letter from Warren's solicitor on Monday asking for confirmation of an ongoing deal between the camps. Williams said the letter threatened legal action if confirmation was not received by 1700 BST on Wednesday. Warren denied he had threatened legal action and said he only wrote to Hatton Sr. to clarify his position. The Hatton camp said they replied - but only to say they did not agree with Warren's position. Source: BBC
A New #1...
He's the British, Commonwealth, and European junior-welterweight champion. With a 32-1-2 record (19 knockouts; only loss is to Zab Judah), he has an impressive resume and has won his last 17 fights. The WBC recently made the 30-year-old England native the #1 contender for the 140-pound belt and its champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr. The problem is, Floyd and Arturo Gatti (the #2 contender) are most likely headed for welterweight, and it seems that the rest of the division is paired off. Witter has been calling out quality opponents such as Cotto and Hatton for quite a long time, but it's unfortunate that we won't see him against top competition for a while. Currently, his only choices are to either defend his European title against Giuseppe Lauri of Italy or face Ricardo Torres in an elimination bout with a shot at Cotto at stake. Source: BBC
