Week 1 is in the books in the Arena Football League and we saw some surprising results. Monday night the defending champs, San Jose, lost on the road to the Chicago Rush on ESPN2 and in their 2008 debut the Cleveland Gladiators won their first game against the New York Dragons. Week 1 favorites went 4-4, but the interesting news that came out of week 1 was the high amount of scoring. The over hit in five out the eight games played. The under is usually a strong play early in the season and, judging by the way the lines moved, the sharp bettors were all over the under in Week 1. Three quarterbacks went down last weekend and are iffy for this weekend's games. Dallas QB Clint Dolezel is out for four to six weeks, New York QB Aaron. Garcia is doubtful for week 2, and Steve Bellisari is questionable for week 2 for New Orleans.
Six out of the eight games in Week 2 have odds and I'm waiting to see odds for the Kansas City vs. New York game (NY QB doubtful) and Orlando vs. New Orleans (NO QB questionable). As of now there's only one double-digit favorite (road favorite) in week 2 and this game in on Monday with San Jose (-10) trying to avoid going 0-2 against a Grand Rapids team that will be playing their first game of the season. I was looking to play San Jose in this spot but having to lay double-digits on the road I will probably pass. The best game this weekend has to be on Sunday with the Philadelphia Soul traveling to Chicago. The Rush is coming off a huge home win over the defending champs (San Jose) and Philadelphia is coming off a home win over Orlando. Philadelphia spent the most money in free agency during the offseason so they could be ripe for a big upset. There's been big line movement in this game already as Chicago opened as a -3 point favorite and now most sports books have this game as a Pick'em.
