This coming weekend Showtime offers possibly their best back-to-back boxing ever. I am not even sure they have attempted to have a weekend of boxing with this potential but either way it isn't going unnoticed in the boxing community.
First up to bat will be undefeated 168-pound prospects Allan Green (17-0, 11 KOs) and Jaidon Codington (9-0, 9 KOs). These two guys are rated along with the best youngsters in all of boxing. Codington has freakish Roy Jones type skills and Green is a rugged banger. This promises to be a great measuring stick for both men as well as a fantastic match-up by Showtime. Both guys bring excitement and energy into the ring.
The undercard probably has more potential than 90 percent of most Shobox presentations. Sechew Powell (17-0, 11 KOs) vs. Archak TerMelikstein (15-1, 12 KOs) offers two talented 140-pounders on the verge of contending. Powell has had a few spectacular appearances on Shobox already including a punch where he and Cornelius Bundrage both went down from the first punches of the fight. Both men staggered up as the clueless referee looked on. Powell ran across the ring and massacred Bundrage ending the fight in one round.
TerMelikstein was TKO'd once last year but has rebounded well with seven wins, five coming by knockout. Both men have a lot of confidence in their power and combined with their vulnerable chins are sure to make an entertaining battle. I honestly feel this is the best non-Saturday card Showtime has presented.
Doc's is now on another winning streak as they have won 7 of their last 10 picks. Our team of experts has worked harder than ever to find the best possible play for the upcoming Lacy/Pemberton fight. Shobox works as a perfect appetizer for the main course Saturday night. Mickey Ward and Arturo Gatti's stepchild Scott Pemberton (29-3, 24 KOs) faces of against brute Jeff Lacy(20-0, 16 KOs). Lacy is the current IBF super middleweight champion and this will be his fourth defense of the title. Lacy has been brought up perfectly and other than a dreary performance against Omar Sheika he has responded to rave reviews.
Lacy uses the Mexican style of fighting, he bulls forward with hard body shots setting up shots to the head. Lacy is one of the more muscle bound fighters in the history of the sport and his Mr. Atlas build is proof of the kind of shape he is always in. Lacy seems to understand it is going to take hard work and dedication, something that Pemberton has also learned from his many wars. Pemberton had three epic wars with Omar Sheika and is a tall awkward puncher with a lot of resiliency.
The undercard also is no table scrap as it features the hardest PFP puncher in boxing, Rafeal Marquez, against Silence Mabuza. This should be a good fight as all of Marquez's fights usually end before the final bell. Mabuza is a tough but undeserving challenger.
