The Boston Red Sox have long been known for the Curse of the Bambino, as they went 86 years without winning a World Series after they sold Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. During this time they have had numerous heartbreaks and none hurt more than in 1986, when they were just one out away from winning the World Series with a two-run lead until collapsing and losing the series. But that all came to an end in 2004 when they came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat New York Yankees before sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series to win their first championship in many years. Nobody talks about curses anymore in Beantown and they won another World Series in 2007. Boston is one of the biggest spending in baseball on a year in and year out basis.
The Red Sox were founded in 1901 and have won seven World Series. The Red Sox currently play in the American League East Division and are located in Boston, MA. The Boston Red Sox play their home games at Fenway Park.
