Young Contenders
Young Contenders -- Joel Julio by Jeremy "Fasttalker" Bjornberg - 03/15/2006 Joel Julio has looked just as dominating lately against better competition as he did when he was fighting Colombian taxi drivers. In his last fight he took on Wilmer Mejia (15-6, 121 KOs) and as usual, he went right to work. Mejia was not able to withstand the two-fisted attack and succumbed to the pressure in round two. Doc's Prospect Profile -- Paul Malignaggi by Doc's Boxing Team - 02/23/2006 Paul Malignaggi has been hated on by many for his loudmouth and showboat tactics. Many other people are just disgusted by feather fist punchers in general, but Paulie pays it no mind. The Brooklyn native feels he is already world class but he has yet to step up the competition of that status. He has recently started to take on fighters with solid records and if he can continue to win and climb up the charts slowly he has a chance to make some money in this sport. Doc's Prospect Profile -- Denis Boytsov by Drew "King" James - 01/31/2006 When I first read about Denis Boytsov, you could say I was a bit skeptical. Good amateur pedigree, rock-hard physique, and the looks that would make you wonder if he'd be better a fit in an Abercrombie catalogue, not Ring Magazine. Read more about Denis Boytsov. Boxing's Future Moneymakers by Jeremy "Fasttalker" Bjornberg - 10/21/2005 Many names come to mind when compiling a list of the best newcomers in boxing. I decided to mostly focus on some of the more exposed and well-known prospects. I will continue to focus on up and coming fighters so be sure to check back. Doc's Prospect Profile -- Daniel Ponce De Leon by Jeremy "Fasttalker" Bjornberg - 10/31/2005 It might seem silly to call De Leon a prospect, but a fringe, vacant title can only mean so much. De Leon actually is a titleholder as he just won the vacant WBO title via a rugged 12-round decision over Sod Lookongyangtoy. I can't thank heaven above that I only had to type that name, not pronounce it. If Sod had won the fight, it would be a nightmare for any broadcaster and hopefully this is the end of him and his ridiculously long name. Read more about Daniel Ponce De Leon. Young Contenders - Kendall Holt by Trever "DeuceDrop" Malagon - 10/25/2005 Kendall Holt (20-1, 12 KO's) is a budding star in the welterweight division. Kendall possesses fast hands and good combinations in the ring. Holt is a very fast starter and he loves to take advantage of the first round by dropping huge bombs on his unsuspecting opponents. His fast pace in the beginning of the fight lets his challengers know that they better be careful. That's what usually happens to guys when they step into the ring with him, they start off being game, and then they tend to proceed with more caution as the fight progresses. Young Contenders - "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis by Trever "DeuceDrop" Malagon - 09/09/2005 "Mighty" Mike Aranoutis is a straight up boxing fool! He has a record of 14-0-2 with 6 KOs. He reminds me of Paul Spadafora, but with faster hands and better combinations. Arnaoutis is a boxer from Greece who held amateur titles in his native country. He has great ring generalship and is always active in his fights. Read more about Mike Arnaoutis.
