NFL Week 17 Player Props and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/29/2011
It has been a pretty successful regular season in terms of betting Bovada NFL props, although several will be resolved this week as many weekly free NFL predictions were yearly totals. One I will be heavily rooting for this week, for example: Tom Brady to throw four touchdown passes against Buffalo to reach 40 (I recommended he would reach that number). There are numerous others.

NFL Totals Betting: Week 17 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 12/28/2011
Points were a bit harder to come by in Week 16 of the regular season NFL schedule with nine games staying ‘under’ the total, six games going ‘over,’ and one game ending in a ‘push’. The Christmas NFL free picks were no gift with a 0-2-1 record on our top plays. This downturn brought our year-to-date record for our best bets on the total line to 27-19-2.

NFL Picks: Cowboys at Giants Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/27/2011
There is only one game on the Week 17 NFL schedule that features a win-and-you-are-in or lose-and-you-stay-home playoff scenario for both teams and that’s the Dallas Cowboys (8-7) at the New York Giants (8-7), which was thus flexed to the prime-time Sunday night game (all games Sunday this week; Fox was decidedly displeased to lose this game, which should be a ratings bonanza).

NFL Totals Betting: Week 16 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 12/22/2011
For the second week in a row the total line slightly favored the ‘over,’ with nine games going ‘over’ the total, six games staying ‘under,’ and one game ending in a ‘push’ in Week 15 of the NFL season. Christmas came early with a perfect 3-0 record on last week’s top free sports picks, bringing our year-to-date record for our best bets on the total line to 27-17-1.

NFL Picks: San Diego Chargers at Detroit Lions Odds and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/20/2011
This is a huge game in terms of playoff implications on Saturday at Ford Field between surging San Diego and the host Lions at 4:05 p.m. EST on CBS. Let’s start with Detroit (9-5). If the Lions beat or tie San Diego, they clinch their first playoff spot since 1999. The Lions could also clinch a playoff spot with a loss AND if the four teams trailing them in the wild-card standings -- the Chicago Bears, New York Giants, Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals -- all lose.

NFL Week 15 Player Props and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/15/2011
I didn’t address any Week 15-specific props in last week’s column, so nothing to recap there. I do hope, however, that you did bet on the Bodog props on whether New England’s Tom Brady and New Orleans’ Drew Brees would throw at least 40 touchdown passes this season (‘yes’ on both was the recommendation). Brady added three last week and is up to 33 with three games to go, while Brees added two and is at 32.

NFL Totals Betting: Week 15 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 12/14/2011
The total line slightly favored the ‘over’ in Week 14, with nine games going ‘over’ the total, six games staying ‘under,’ and one game ending in a ‘push’. After enduring a couple of down weeks, we evened things out with a 1-1-1 record on our top plays. Our year-to-date record through 14 weeks of the NFL schedule now stands at 24-17-1.

Dallas Cowboys at Tampa Bay Bucs Predictions and NFL Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 12/14/2011
It’s our first Saturday night NFL game of the season – and then nearly all of the Week 16 games are on Saturday (since Sunday is Christmas), followed only by Sunday games in Week 17 – this week, and the Dallas at Tampa Bay matchup features two coaches who appear to have tenuous futures with their clubs.

NFL Picks: Patriots at Broncos Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/14/2011
It’s our second straight week of Tebowmania here at Doc’s, but how in good conscience could I not preview Sunday’s New England-Denver matchup between the NFL’s golden boy quarterback entering the season, reigning NFL MVP Tom Brady, and the guy who seems to have taken Brady’s place as the apple of the media’s eye: Tim Tebow? And the two couldn’t possibly be more different in style of play.

NFL Week 14 Player Props and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/8/2011
It was a so-so Week 13 in the NFL in terms of my player prop recommendations. Let’s start with Tim Tebow, and I swear this is the final time I address him this season (well, unless the Broncos keep winning and then I’ll have to preview another Denver game, as I did this week’s Bears-Broncos matchup).

NFL Predictions: Bears at Broncos Odds and Betting Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/7/2011
As much as I tried to avoid it, it is clearly time to address the Tim Tebow phenomenon in the NFL, so the Sunday preview this week is Tebow’s surging Broncos hosting the sliding Chicago Bears in a game that could set back passing in the league for years.

NFL Totals Betting: Week 14 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 12/7/2011
The total line has now balanced itself out for three straight weeks in the NFL, with eight games going ‘over’ the total last week, seven staying ‘under,’ and one game ending in a ‘push’. Unfortunately, our current downturn continued for a third-straight week as well with a 1-2 record on our top plays. Our year-to-date record through 13 weeks of the NFL regular season now stands at 23-16 for these free NFL picks.

NFL Predictions: Packers at Giants Odds and Betting Picks
by Alan Matthews - 12/1/2011
Those 1972 Miami Dolphins players who are waiting to break out the champagne as they always do when a team gets deep into an NFL season unbeaten but finally suffers a loss may have their last, best chance to sip the bubbly this Sunday when the desperate New York Giants host the unbeaten Green Bay Packers in realistically the Pack’s biggest test remaining on the regular-season NFL schedule.

NFL Week 13 Player Props and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 12/1/2011
I took last week off in the props story department due to Thanksgiving, but I am back this week and there should be no more interruptions for the rest of the NFL’s regular season. And, dang it, I’m going back on a promise I made to myself: I will address some Tim Tebow props that Bodog has listed for this week – Broncos are at Vikings on Sunday. Here are the three:

NFL Totals Betting: Week 13 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 11/30/2011
For the second week in a row the oddsmakers struck a perfect balance on the total line with eight games going ‘over’ the total and eight games staying ‘under’. Unfortunately, we endured a second-straight sub-par performance with a 1-2 record on our top plays. Our year-to-date record for these free NFL picks still remains well over .500 at 22-14.

NFL Totals Betting: Week 12 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 11/25/2011
Before last week’s games, 28 of the previous 43 NFL games stayed ‘under’ the total. Week 11 finally brought a bit of normalcy to the total line with six games going ‘over,’ seven games staying ‘under,’ and one game ending in a ‘push’. Another trend that fell last week was our 10-week winning streak on the total line with a 1-2 record on our top plays. Our year-to-date record still remains healthy at 21-12.

Patriots at Eagles Predictions and NFL Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 11/22/2011
Outside of Packers-Lions and 49ers-Ravens on Thanksgiving, Week 12 of the NFL schedule is pretty lame in terms of matchups. In fact, there is only one matchup on Sunday or Monday featuring two teams with winning records: Chicago, beginning life without Jay Cutler, at Oakland. I pondered previewing that game, but the New England-Philadelphia matchup is too tantalizing to pass up.

NFL Week 11 Player Props and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 11/17/2011
I looked at all end of the season props in my Week 10 story last week, so really no need to recap those since there wasn’t a resolution to any of them. So let’s get right to a few Week 11 specials that Bodog offers. First off, let’s look at a few Super Bowl prop bets for Super Bowl XLVI. The

NFL Picks: Chargers at Bears Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 11/16/2011
Could Sunday’s game in the Windy City be the beginning of the end for Chargers coach Norv Turner? Remember that in a Bodog props story a few weeks ago I recommended you take Turner not to be the Bolts’ coach at the start of next season, and a loss Sunday would be San Diego’s fifth in a row and drop the Bolts to 4-6 and grease the skids for Turner’s dismissal after the season.

NFL Totals Betting: Week 11 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 11/16/2011
Does three weeks make a trend? If so, than the ‘under’ remains the solid play after 28 of the last 43 NFL games have stayed ‘under’ the total, including 10 of the 16 games last week. Speaking of trends, for the 10th-straight week we came out on the plus side of our top plays on the total line; cashing in on two of three picks. This raised our year-to-date record to 20-10.

NFL Week 10 Player Props and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 11/10/2011
I looked at three Week 9-specific props last week in my Bodog NFL props column and had success and two of the three – while also getting closer to winning one prop that probably won’t be decided until the end of the season.

For the second week in a row points were a bit hard to come by as nine of the 14 games in Week 9 of the NFL regular season stayed ‘under’ the total. For the ninth straight week we came out on the plus side of our top plays; cashing in on two of three picks. This raised our year-to-date record to 18-9.

Giants at 49ers Predictions and NFL Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 11/9/2011
It’s a bit of a weird Week 10 in the NFL this Sunday as it seems like every game either has playoff implications or is a total dog (Rams-Browns, Redskins-Dolphins, Jags-Colts anyone)? With that said, it was tough not picking the likes of Lions-Bears, Steelers-Bengals or Patriots-Jets this week. But I’m going with Giants-49ers because it is quite possible the winner of this one between division leaders will be the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs.

NFL Week 9 Player Props and Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 11/4/2011
First off, the only Week 8-specific prop I looked at was on Dallas rookie running back DeMarco Murray, coming off a franchise-record 253 yards rushing, and his yardage total and yards per carry average last week against the Philadelphia Eagles. Murray’s ‘over/under’ yards was 85.5 and yards-per-carry was 5.0 against Philly. I said take the ‘under’ on both.

NFL Picks: Packers at Chargers Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 11/2/2011
Not too long ago, this game between Green Bay and San Diego on Sunday looked like a potential Super Bowl preview. Well, Green Bay, the NFL’s only unbeaten team, has certainly kept up its part of the bargain. But the Bolts have dropped two straight to raise questions against about Norv Turner’s job status in San Diego (again).

NFL Totals Betting: Week 9 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 11/2/2011
Defense was back in vogue in Week 8 of the NFL regular season with nine of the 13 games staying ‘under’ the total. Our current winning streak remained intact as for the eighth week in a row we had the winning play in two of our top three picks, bringing our year-to-date record up to 16-8.

The back-and-forth nature of the results with the ‘total’ line finally evened themselves out in Week 7 of the NFL season with six of the 13 games going ‘over’ the total and seven staying ‘under’. For the seventh-straight week we have been able to stay ahead of the curve with the correct call on two-of-three of our top plays. This brings our year-to-date record to 14-7.

NFL Picks: Patriots at Steelers Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/25/2011
The NFL’s game of the week is an absolute no-brainer in Week 8, when New England (5-1) hosts Pittsburgh (5-2) in what could be an AFC Championship Game preview. The result of this game could also be the deciding tiebreaker on whether the Patriots or Steelers would host that game against each other.

NFL Week 7 Player Props and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/20/2011
In my Week 6 player props story, there weren’t too many immediate results for us to look back on – in other words I tackled a few season-ending totals for NFL players, such as 50-yard field goals for Oakland’s Sebastian Janikowski (he was two-yards shy of adding one in Week 6), sacks for Minnesota’s Jared Allen (he added No. 9.5 against the Bears on Sunday) or total starts for Denver’s Tim Tebow (he makes No. 1 this week at putrid Miami).

NFL Totals Betting: Week 7 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 10/19/2011
Defense stepped up to the plate last week in the NFL as 10 of the 13 games stayed ‘under’ the total. This was in sharp contrast to the previous week when nine of the 13 games went ‘over’ the total. Fortunately, we have been able to stay ahead of the curve all season long as for the sixth-straight week we were correct on two-of-three of our top predictions for NFL totals betting, bringing our year-to-date record to 12-6.

NFL Picks: Bears vs. Buccaneers Odds and Betting Predictions
by Alan Matthews - 10/18/2011
One could argue that the Chicago Bears have an unfair advantage over the other 31 NFL teams and that the Tampa Bay Bucs are at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the league. Why? This Sunday’s game between the Bears and Bucs is the NFL’s annual matchup in London, and I can guarantee you that the crowd will be pro-Bears because they are simply a more recognizable name across the pond and their fans certainly travel much better than those of the Bucs.

NFL Picks: Cowboys at Patriots Predictions and Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/11/2011
For the second week in a row, the New England Patriots are in the NFL spotlight with the marquee game, with the Pats hosting the Dallas Cowboys in the Fox Game of the Week. I’d like to call it a potential Super Bowl preview, but it’s doubtful the Cowboys hold up their end of the bargain since they never really do.

NFL Picks: Jets at Patriots Predictions and Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 10/5/2011
Have the boisterous New York Jets (2-2) been humbled? Usually in the week leading up to facing the Patriots, all you hear is plenty of hot air coming from Rex Ryan and Co. That’s the type of atmosphere Rex Ryan has created in New York. But off back-to-back losses, it’s rather quiet in New York right now – other than former Jets legend Joe Namath, that is.

NFL Predictions: Lions at Cowboys Odds and Betting Picks
by Alan Matthews - 9/28/2011
Well, I was two-thirds right about the Dallas Cowboys in their Monday night 18-16 win over the Washington Redskins. I expected the battered Cowboys to win and thought that Rob Ryan’s defense would fluster Rex Grossman and, thus, lead to an ‘under’ total, which was easily the case. Unfortunately, the Cowboys missed covering by a few points as they became the first team this season to win without scoring a touchdown.

NFL Totals Betting: Week 4 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 9/28/2011
It has been feast or famine with the ‘total’ bet in the first three weeks of the NFL regular season. Points were plentiful the first two weeks with 23 of the 32 games going ‘over’ the total. Week 3 saw a dramatic shift the other way with 10 of the 16 games staying ‘under’. For the third week in a row our ‘best bets’ stayed ahead of the curve to bring our year-to-date record to 6-3.

NFL Predictions: Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears Betting Odds
by Alan Matthews - 9/21/2011
I don’t think it’s even close in Week 3: Green Bay at Chicago is the glamour game of the week – and the Fox national TV game -- as the NFL’s longest-running rivalry is renewed for the fourth time in almost exactly a calendar year (falls two days short). Of course last season, as every year, the clubs met in each other’s stadiums during the regular season, with each winning at home. And then Green Bay visited Chicago for the NFC Championship Game and won, 21-14, in a game that saw Bears QB Jay Cutler get socially barbequed for not playing through an injury in the second half.

NFL Totals Betting: Week 3 Over and Under Predictions
by David Schwab - 9/21/2011
The ‘over’ has clearly been the best play so far through the first two weeks on the NFL regular season. In the season openers, 12 of the 16 games went ‘over’ the total line. Last week was almost has high with 11 of 16 games going ‘over’ the total. This equates to 71.9 percent of the games so far exceeding the total line.

NFL Picks: Texans at Saints Predictions and Betting Odds
by T.O. Whenham - 9/20/2011

NFL Picks: Bears at Saints Odds and Betting Predictions

If any team has a more difficult three-game opening stretch than the Chicago Bears, I’d sure like to hear that argument. After facing an Atlanta team that led the NFC in wins last season, things get probably more difficult this week as the Bears travel to New Orleans, another double-digit win playoff club a year ago, in the Saints’ home opener. And then next week the Bears host Super Bowl Champion Green Bay.

NFL Odds: Seahawks at 49ers Predictions and NFL Picks
by T.O. Whenham - 9/6/2011
When I think of Pete Carroll at Jim Harbaugh I really wish I was still watching college football. Those two had a couple of great matchups when Carroll was at USC and Harbaugh was at Stanford. What we saw back then is a lot more exciting than what this game has the potential to be. There are some reasons to be optimistic about portions of both teams, and it seems reasonable to believe both coaches are moving in the right direction.
