Will your favorite NFL team make the playoffs? That’s the big question for most football fans at the regular season gets closer and closer. NFL Regular Season Odds: 18-Game Schedule Good for Books & Bottom Line
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 8/27/2010
. The more NFL games that actually mean something and are televised nationally, the better for us. Obviously there’s a limit to how many games a football player’s body can survive, and you don’t want to water down your product, but even an additional two games would mean a lot for our bottom line.

NFL Hall of Fame Game Betting Recap
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 8/13/2010
It was by no means a great game, but at least we were betting on NFL football again. The Dallas Cowboys and the Cincinnati Bengals squared off in the 2010 Hall of Fame Game on Sunday in Canton, Ohio. Dallas beat Cincinnati 16-7 as three-point underdogs, which ended up being a good result for the book. The game also went under the total of 33, another win for us.

Tiger Woods Betting Odds for PGA Championship
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 8/12/2010
Tiger Woods will once again be the big story heading into the PGA Championship this week at Whistling Straits outside Milwaukee. With rumors linking Tiger to swing coach Sean Foley surfacing on Monday, most people were still trying to get a handle on what they saw last weekend at Firestone. Was that really Tiger Woods hacking around out there? Because it didn’t look like Tiger Woods. Frankly, it looked like John Daly after a particularly hard-drinking night and a trip to the drunk tank.

NFL Player Props of the Week: The T.O Show Lands in Cincinnati
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 8/4/2010
During these dog days of the NFL offseason, Bodog’s online sportsbook is always on the lookout for action. So with that said, a debt of gratitude is owed to the Cincinnati Bengals. By signing Terrell Owens to a one-year, $2 million deal last week, the Bengals gave the sportsbook and its sports bettors the kind of buzz not heard since the vuvuzelas stopped humming in South Africa.

Bettors Showing Early Interest on Open Championship Odds
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 7/14/2010
The 2010 Open Championship tees off Thursday at St. Andrews. At Bodog’s online sportsbook, we’re seeing good interest on our odds for the third major of the year, but perhaps not on the one player you’d expect. Tiger Woods is getting 5/1 odds to win his third Open Championship at the Old Course – he also won in 2000 and 2005 – but given his up and down play in 2010 he hasn’t drawn as much action as we’ve been used to seeing in past years.

MLB All-Star Game Home Run Derby a Hit with Bettors
by Richard Gardner - 7/13/2010
The Home Run Derby as part of MLB’s All-Star Game festivities has come under quite a bit of fire recently. Lots of people say that it’s not original anymore. There aren’t enough star players participating. (Nick Swisher? Really?) It’s too long and drawn out. Basically, the luster has worn off for many fans, and the number of empty upper-deck seats in Anaheim on Monday had to be a bit concerning for organizers.

British Open Golf Futures Betting Odds and Tiger Woods
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 7/8/2010
The 2010 British Open tees off next week at St. Andrews and we’re expecting good activity on the golf betting board at Bodog. The biggest story heading into the tournament? You guessed it – Tiger Woods. He won the Open at St. Andrews in 2000 and 2005, so there’s no question that he likes the course. The big question: Is his game and mental state where it needs to be to win a major? We’re giving Tiger 7/2 odds to win the British Open, making him the heavy favorite despite the fact he’s winless so far on Tour.

If you’re desperate for a football fix, and I’m not talking about soccer this time, the CFL season kicked off Thursday up north on, appropriately, Canada Day. Saskatchewan (+3.5) and Montreal gave fans in Regina a classic in the opener, with the Roughriders battling back from a huge second-half deficit to take out the Alouettes 54-51 in double overtime. The 2010 World Cup saw its first big upset Wednesday when Switzerland shocked Spain, 1-0. There hasn’t been a ton to write about the big tournament in South Africa – other than vuvuzelas, some horrendous goalkeeping and a dearth of scoring – so it was refreshing to see one of the big boys go down so unexpectedly.

Most of the early action has been on Mickelson, and that tells you all you need to know about Woods’ season to date. It’s been a real struggle for the world’s top golfer. Other than a decent showing at the Masters in April, there haven’t been many highlights. We’ll be posting plenty of MMA props to go along with our regular odds at Bodog’s online sportsbook. Our typical MMA props ask the following three questions: Who will win the fight of the night? Who will win the knockout of the night? And, who will win their bout in the fastest time?

Bookmaker's Corner: NBA Finals Game 4 Odds and Props
by Richard Gardner, Bookmaker, Bodog Sportsbook - 6/10/2010
History shows that the NBA Finals are over – at least as far as the series result. Since the NBA switched to a 2-3-2 games format in the Finals in 1985, there have been 10 previous series that were 1-1 after the first two games as this year’s L.A. Lakers-Boston Celtics matchup was. The 10 teams that won Game 3 after that split won all 10 series. Of course the Lakers won Game 3 on Tuesday night 91-84.

NBA Player Props: Kobe Bryant vs. Michael Jordan

by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 3/24/2010
Do me a favour and forget about the NCAA tourney for a couple of minutes and turn your attention towards NBA betting. No, the Los Angeles Lakers have not tanked (they’ve been enjoying a fairly easy schedule as of late); and yes, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed center Zydrunas Ilgauskas (after trading him to Washington about a month ago). Here’s the thing: despite all the bracket busting going on in college basketball, there is still plenty of great NBA betting action to load up on this week.

Bookmaker’s Corner: NBA Playoffs & NBA Futures
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 3/9/2010
Allen Iverson isn’t the only one going through tough times; the Los Angeles Lakers have now lost three in a row for the first time since January of 2008 and a fourth could prove to be unfathomable for bettors. The Lakers draw the most basketball betting action at Bodog and although a few losses will not force many fans to bail on Kobe Bryant, it may open a few eyes to some of the other NBA teams making a run for the playoffs.

Bookmaker’s Corner: Betting on NHL Hockey’s Return

NHL Hockey betting has taken a back seat to Olympic hockey betting, but when play does resume you can be sure to see a surge in betting interest as the push for the playoffs begins in earnest. This is one of the most popular times for hockey betting at Bodog’s online Sportsbook and bettors will need to make some important judgments on which teams will show up down the stretch and which ones will either fall back or remain back in the standings.

Super Bowl Recap from a Bookie
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 2/9/2010
History was made on Super Bowl Sunday and I know I can’t speak for every football fan or online sportsbook when I say this, but it sure was fun to watch. From start to finish, you knew that this was going to be one of those unforgettable games. I’m not at all surprised that 106.5 million viewers tuned in watch the New Orleans Saints defeat the Indianapolis Colts (by a score of 31-17) to take their first Super Bowl title and break the 1983 record held by the season finale of “M*A*S*H” and become the most-watched television program in the history of American broadcasting.

Bookmaker’s Corner: Waiting for Media Day

Media day is one of those time-honored Super Bowl traditions that the coaches and players dread, but one that football bettors, reporters, broadcasters, photographers, and TV crews look forward to most. Bookmaker’s Corner: Recent Super Bowl Classics
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 1/26/2010
The Indianapolis Colts opened as 6-point favorites over the New Orleans Saints, with a total of 56.5. The early action was on Indianapolis, although it wasn’t a landslide by any means. The Colts are certainly deserved favorites, what with the fact they’ve won every game they’ve tried to win this season. But the inspirational Saints are no slouches, and they’ll undoubtedly receive the lion’s share of the support from the fans in Miami.

Bookmaker’s Corner: NFL Football Betting Lines: Are Wild Cards Indeed
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 1/13/2010
The NFL’s wild card weekend was a good one for Bodog Sportsbook’s NFL football betting lines. Unfortunately for most of our players it wasn’t very good at all. Bodog Sportsbook had big wins on both the New York Jets’ victory over the Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens’ upset of the New England Patriots. And the players had a big win with the Cowboys as Dallas beat the Philadelphia Eagles quite handily.

Bookmaker’s Corner: College Football Betting Season in Review
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 1/13/2010
The 2009-10 college football betting season started off great, but then ended on a not-so-great note for us over at Bodog Sportsbook. We saw a late flood of money come in on Alabama, which moved the number from -4 to -5, and we paid the price. Crimson Tide fans, on the other hand, had to be pleased with the way Alabama finished off the season; beating Texas 37-21 in the BCS National Championship Game is about as good as it gets.
