It's June 26 and this is what I picture:
Danny Ainge is naked draped in the Boston Celtics' recent championship banner. He's sleeping on a mountain of Bolivian bam-bam, surrounded by Asian hookers and Twizzlers. He wakes up around 8:30 p.m., and realizes that the C's actually have to participate in the 2008 NBA Draft. The perplexed - and incredibly wasted - Mormon tries to snap out of his three-week bender, but instead just rolls back over onto Wang-Li and dreams about K.G. rocking one on the dome of Pau Gasol in the Garden as the bloodthirsty crowd chants Danny's name.

Yup, the Celtics won the NBA Title. Great for them. And they will get their full three weeks to enjoy it. But for the rest of the fans, players, coaches, and front office folk that aren't located in Beantown it's already Next Year. They're looking forward, not back, and the promise of prospects and potential are just what these organizations need to get them through another summer of pot busts, spouse abuse, and free agency.
With that in mind, here are my projections for how the face of the NBA will look on June 27. Here is Doc's Sports NBA Mock Draft, Version 2.0:
1. Chicago Bulls - Michael Beasley, F, Kansas State
Everyone is on the D-Rose train right now for the Bulls. I'm going with The Beast in the interest of diversity. I think Beasley can be a 20-10 guy within 18 months of this draft. And just picture this: what if Beasley played on Memphis last year and Rose played on Kansas State? Are we still having this same discussion?
2. Miami Heat - Derrick Rose, PG, Memphis
This is as easy as it's going to get for the Heat. There's speculation that they may be into Mayo. Wow, what a mistake that would be. Bottom line is: do they want someone that's going to pass D-Wade the ball (Rose) or do they want someone who's going to chase down D-Wade's misses (Beasley)?
3. Minnesota Timberwolves - O.J. Mayo, SG, USC
Mayo doesn't need the money - he's been getting bank for years - but he's going to love going this high in the draft. Minnesota is pretty much Siberia at the moment and they are simply looking for the best player available. That isn't Mayo, who I don't think will ever be a guy that takes over an NBA game, but the Wolves sure think it can be.
4. Seattle SuperSonics - Jerryd Bayless, PG, Arizona
The Sonics are going to take a minute away from their legal woes and their attempt to rip the soul out of hoops fans in the Pacific Northwest to choose a suitable running mate for Golden Boy Kevin Durant. Bayless should be up to task. He can handle, has a smooth mid-range game, and is athletic enough to step in and contribute. And he's going to fit right in at Oklahoma City.
5. Memphis Grizzlies - Brook Lopez, C, Stanford
Apparently NBA general managers don't think that Lopez has the type of "upside" that warrants this high of a pick. Apparently the Collins twins didn't pave a very strong path for Stanford twin centers. I think Lopez was one of the best two or three big men in college and that he was a force.
6. New York Knicks - Russell Westbrook, G, UCLA
I'm telling you - Westbrook is not nearly as good as he is being touted. He's an athletic freak - like one of those frogs that can run across water for fly from pad to pad - but he's not a player. He went from bench player to bit player on a college team that didn't score. I don't see how he's all-of-a-sudden going to be putting up 15-20 points per in The League.
7. Los Angeles Clippers - Eric Gordon, G, Indiana
I really like what Gordon brings to the table. He isn't a true point guard but can definitely handle the wheel. He is more athletic than he looks and as soon as he adjusts to being "defended" by other NBA players his smooth stroke is going to pay huge dividends.
8. Milwaukee Bucks - Danilo Gallinari, F, Italy
Milwaukee has enough bangers. They need some skill guys. Gallinari will fit right in the regular United Nations that the Bucks are developing. He's another large, skilled player that will likely hate winters in Milwaukee as much as his teammates.
9. Charlotte Bobcats - Anthony Randolph, PF, LSU
Upside baller for an upside team. Randolph kind of came out of nowhere last year and had some moments of domination. He's still very raw, but he has the size and athleticism of a Top 10 pick so there you go.
10. New Jersey Nets - Kevin Love, PF, UCLA
The Nets really don't have much of a sense of direction and the natives are restless. I think there's no doubt that they make a move (or 12) on draft night and it will likely involve this pick. If not, Love is at least a name that can energize the fan base. For a minute, before they realize they hate him.
11. Indiana Pacers - D.J. Augustin, PG, Texas
I'm telling you right now: Augustin is going to be a much better pro than Russell Westbrook. He is a stud, and, today, he is the best point guard in the draft. Period. Rose, Bayless, Gordon, and Westbrook each have four inches on the Longhorn, and that's the only reason he's going to fall.
12. Sacramento Kings - Roy Hibbert, C, Georgetown
I know, I know: I can't believe it either. But from what I read the Kings are apparently pretty high on Hibbert. No pun intended. They would have taken him last year but instead settled on the guy that I labeled as the No. 1 bust in the draft: Spencer Hawes.
13. Portland Trailblazers - Joe Alexander, SF, West Virginia
Rumor has it there are questions about Joe's brains. What do you expect taking a guy out of West Virginia? The bottom line is that Alexander can do a ton of things well, on both sides of the court, and has the potential to be a nasty pro.
14. Golden State Warriors - Donte Green, SF, Syracuse
My feelings on Green should be clear by now: he looks great in warm-ups but has a negative basketball IQ. All flash and no substance, with an air of entitlement and an overestimation of his own skills. Yup, he's definitely ready to make the jump to the pros.
15. Phoenix (From Atlanta) - Brandon Rush, SG, Kansas
Rush, Rush. Apparently the top player from the national champion Jayhawks has generated a lot of buzz with his workouts. However, I would still be wary of his knee issues and the poor rotation on his jumper. That said, I see the Suns aiming for someone a bit more polished and experienced - like Rush or CDR - that can step right in and contribute.
16. Philadelphia - Marreese Speights, C, Florida
The 76ers have reinvented themselves as an up-tempo team but they need a banger around the rack. They were one of the worst teams in the league in terms of defensive rebounding last year and need a few big bodies to prevent a repeat of that this year.
17. Toronto - Alexis Ajinca, C, France
Never met the man. But I know that he's French, has a 7-foot-8 wingspan, and is a huge fan of Howie Mandel's. OK, so only two of those three things are true.
18. Washington - Darrell Arthur, PF, Kansas
I said before that, 'this guy has "violation of league's substance abuse policy" or "suspended for violating team rules," written all over him. Add another one to the list: he has "out for the season with an apparent knee injury" right there on his forehead. Or, er, his knee.
19. Cleveland - Kosta Koufos, C, Ohio State
This guy didn't dominate the Big Ten last year but he's allegedly one of the Top 20 prospects in entering The League. Awesome. Great call. Can't wait to see LeBron dunking over him in a couple years - while wearing a Knicks jersey.
20. Denver - JaVale McGee, PF, Nevada
McGee is an Erector set: a project that looks a lot more fun in the package than it actually is once you get it home and unwrap it.
21. New Jersey (from Dallas) - DeAndre Jordan, C, Texas A&M
In my first mock draft I had the Nets taking Jordan with their first pick, so I guess you would have to look at this as a coup. That is, until you realize that Jordan has some conditioning and motivation issues, and that he wasn't good enough to start on his college team.

22. Orlando Magic - Courtney Lee, SG, Western Kentucky
The Magic are desperate for a two-guard. Lee strokes it better than Douglas-Roberts so he's the play here.
23. Utah Jazz - Nicolas Batum, SF, France
Not familiar with his work. I just know that there's a lot of buzz around this do-it-all forward and I think his game and skill set sounds like it would meld well with the Jazz.
24. Seattle (from Phoenix) - Serge Ibaka, PF, Congo
Word around the campfire is that the Sonics are going to do the ol' draft-and-stash with their second pick. Ibaka is an absolute beast.
25. Houston Rockets - Robin Lopez, C, Stanford
A taller, skinnier Mark Madsen sans dance skills but add wafro. Lopez is raw but is a great defender. He could be a valuable reserve behind Mt. Mutombo and Yao.
26. San Antonio Spurs - Ryan Anderson, PF, California
Here's my effort at a first-round surprise. Anderson was slowed by minor injuries through most of last year but was still a stud down low for the Bears. He has size and a nice array of offensive moves and could develop nicely as a solid second-team contributor for the Spurs.
27. New Orleans Hornets - Chris Douglas-Roberts, SF, Memphis
I think that Douglas-Roberts is one of the four of five best players in the first round and will be a steal for whomever chooses him.
28. Memphis Grizzlies (from LA Lakers) - J.J. Hickson, PF, North Carolina State
He was a bust at N.C. State so I don't see why he won't be a bust in the NBA. But apparently he has "tools" and "upside". And it would help going to a team that's desperate for help on the interior.
29. Detroit Pistons - Jason Thompson, C, Rider
Detroit needs big guys. Not thrilled with Thompson over some of the other options, but he has buzz. And seven-feet of length. That helps.
30. Boston Celtics - Bill Walker, SF, Kansas State
Wait, what? Draft? You mean that they're actually still going to have an NBA next year? Didn't they realize that we won the title?
