NFL Office Pool Picks - Week 11
by T.O. Whenham - 11/12/2008

For the first time in what seems like an eternity there are no bye weeks to be had this week. That means we have more games to choose from, and more games to get right. Here's how I see each of the 16 games on the schedule turning out straight up this week:

New York Jets at New England - The Jets are getting lots of attention here because they have won four of their last five. I'm not impressed by that stretch, though - the teams they have played are a combined 11-34, and that includes Buffalo at 5-4. Don't forget, the Jets also lost to Oakland. That's hard to do. New England has injury woes, but they will be boosted by the home crowd. Take the Patriots.

Denver at Atlanta - It's hard to believe that this game seems as straightforward as it does. Denver broke a three-game losing streak by barely getting past Cleveland. Atlanta has won four of five and is unbeaten at home. I'm not sure how Atlanta got so much better so quickly, but I finally have to admit that they have. Take the Falcons.

Detroit at Carolina - This one is very easy. The home team is a feisty group of warriors who keep finding ways to win. The road team is one of the biggest jokes in the history of the league. Take the Panthers.

Chicago at Green Bay - The Packers have lost a couple of close games in a row and have to be getting frustrated. The problem, though, is that they can't stop the run. Unfortunately, the Bears can run pretty well. Chicago could get a boost if Kyle Orton returns, but they probably don't need it. They are the better team, and they are playing better. Chicago has won five of the last six between these teams, and I expect that to continue. Take the Bears.

Houston at Indianapolis - I really don't like trusting the Colts this year. They finally put two good performances in a row together, though. Even when they aren't at their best they are better than the Texans have been this year. Indy won the first game, and that was when they were lousy. They'll make it two-for-two. Take the Colts.

Philadelphia at Cincinnati - The Bengals finally won one, but that doesn't mean that they are a good team. Far from it. Philadelphia has been seasoned by tougher teams, they have a much better quarterback playing, they are tougher, and they are much better coached. This one is a mismatch. Take the Eagles.

New Orleans at Kansas City - You don't win pools without taking a few risks, and I'm going to take one here. I don't like how New Orleans is playing at all right now. The Chiefs haven't won in a while, but they have played very well and enjoyed good quarterbacking from Tyler Thigpen. He'll not be challenged by the Saints defense, so he could pull out a win. Take the Chiefs.

Oakland at Miami - The Dolphins won one game last year. It's incredible, then, that they not only are at 5-4, but that they are favored by more than 10 points in this game. Oakland is a complete mess, while Miami is playing inspired ball. This shouldn't be close. Take the Dolphins.

Baltimore at New York Giants - This is a much better game than it appeared like it would be at the start of the year. Both teams are playing very well. The Giants have a pass rush that gives opposing QBs nightmares, though, and that should be a problem for Joe Flacco. Take the Giants.

Minnesota at Tampa Bay - The Vikings are running incredibly well right now thanks to Adrian Peterson. The Bucs are pretty good at stopping the run, though. Tampa Bay is very good at home, and the Vikings have not traveled well this year. It should be a good game. Take the Bucs.

St. Louis at San Francisco - It would be hard to think of a worse game. Neither team is in a very good place. The 49ers are coming off a surprisingly solid Monday night performance, though, while the Rams have been truly terrible for two weeks. The only real concern I have here is how the Niners will bounce back from the heartbreaking loss to the Cardinals. Still, take the 49ers.

Arizona at Seattle - There are a couple of reasons to think the Cardinals could be in for a letdown. They have all but clinched their division already, they are coming off a tough Monday night game, and they likely don't respect this opponent. Matt Hasselbeck could finally return to action, too. None of that, though, is reason enough for me to pick the lousy Seahawks. Take the Cardinals.

San Diego at Pittsburgh - There are real questions about the Pittsburgh QB situation. Still, the Chargers are playing lousy, they don't travel east very well, and they don't respond well to being punched in the mouth repeatedly like they will be in Pittsburgh. The Chargers are not a team to be trusted right now. Take the Steelers.

Tennessee at Jacksonville - This should have been a great battle between the two teams trying to replace the Colts as the power of their division. Instead, it is a one-sided game between the only undefeated team in the country and one of the biggest disappointments out there. Tennessee is going to lose eventually, but I don't see it happening here. Take the Titans.

Dallas at Washington - Both teams are coming off bye weeks that followed poor performances. Both have dealt with injuries all year. Dallas has been a punchline since getting off to a great start. I still have to side with them here, though. Washington is likely to be without Clinton Portis. That gives Dallas a boost, and I suspect they were heavily motivated by Jerry Jones in the off week. Take the Cowboys.

Cleveland at Buffalo - An ugly game between two reeling teams. It might take more than a couple of beers to make this Monday night game watchable. There is a lot of unrest in Cleveland - players are suggesting that the team, and especially the defense, quit against Denver. That won't help team unity. Buffalo desperately needs a win. They'll get one. Take the Bills.
