NFL Office Pool Picks - Week 15
by T.O. Whenham - 12/11/2008

It was a very good week last week. Let's see if these straight up picks can do it again:

New Orleans at Chicago - This is a wide open game. I have to give the edge to the Saints, though - they will be a bit more desperate because a loss will be even more significant for them than for the Bears, Drew Brees will be facing only the 28th best pass defense, and Kyle Orton hasn't been consistent. The weather is a knock against New Orleans, but the Saints are the pick.

Tampa Bay at Atlanta - Both teams need to bounce back from rough losses last week. Home teams have been almost unbeatable in the NFC South this year, but I am still going to pick against the homers here. Tampa's defense will be mad after their off performance on Monday, and they will be looking for revenge. Take the Bucs.

Washington at Cincinnati - All is not smooth in the land of the Redskins. Jim Zorn is making some odd decisions, and some of his players aren't particularly happy. Still, they look like the model franchise compared to the Bengals. This will help Washington get back on track. Take the Redskins.

Tennessee at Houston - The Titans have clinched a playoff spot already, but they should remain motivated until they have secured home games throughout the playoffs. Houston has been hot recently, but they will be outmatched defensively here, and they will have their hands full with Tennessee's running game. Take the Titans.

Detroit at Indianapolis - Analysis is not needed. Take the Colts. Obviously.

Green Bay at Jacksonville - A tough game - neither team is playing worth a darn right now, and it’s hard to trust either of them. The Packers are lousy on the road, but Jacksonville is worse at home. I distrust Green Bay less, I guess. Take the Packers.

San Diego at Kansas City - The Chargers only barely have anything left to play for, but there is still a flicker of hope. They need a big win here, though. They have the tools to get that win, but only if they decide that they want it - something they haven't done all year. Take the Chargers.

San Francisco at Miami - The Niners are a current favorite of mine, and they are playing very well lately, but so is Miami. The Dolphins are confident, strong on both sides of the ball, and in possession of everything they need to win here. Take the Dolphins.

Buffalo at N.Y. Jets - What happens when two teams in a freefall play each other? I'm not sure, but we'll find out on Sunday. Neither team is playing well at all. Still, New York has a clear edge. They can still score, while the Bills have found it almost impossible to get past that field goal barrier in a game recently. Take the Jets.

Seattle at St. Louis - If ever there was a game that didn't need to be played, this is it. I like pretty much nothing about either of these teams, and I can't think of a single thing that either one has to play for. I have to pick someone, though, so I guess I will take Seattle. They have been slightly less putrid than the Rams recently. Take the Seahawks.

Minnesota at Arizona - This one is tough. Normally I would pick the Vikings - Arizona has nothing left to play for since they have clinched and can't get home field advantage, while the Vikings need to keep winning to make the playoffs themselves. It's complicated by the fact that Tarvaris Jackson is starting, though. Still, take the Vikings.

New England at Oakland - Matt Cassel's father died this week, so he won't be with the team this week for practice. He should be back for the game, though, and I'm not sure that he needs to practice to be ready for this game. New England should be desperate, and that's bad news for an opponent. Take the Patriots.

Pittsburgh at Baltimore - I like both of these teams, and I like how they are both playing right now. There is little to separate them here, and it should be a heck of a game. Finding an edge is tough, but I have to give it to Pittsburgh - they have a more experienced quarterback, and a slightly better defense. Take the Steelers.

Denver at Carolina - The Panthers made a real statement to the world on Monday night. Now they face a terribly inconsistent team. Denver could be dangerous because they are a win away from clinching their division, but I still don't think they have enough to counter what Carolina can throw at them. Take the Panthers.

New York Giants at Dallas - The question here is simple - which one of these team's incredibly disappointing performances last week was less concerning in the long term. Dallas is backed into a corner. I don't feel great about it, but I am going to bet that they will fight their way out. Take the Cowboys.

Cleveland at Philadelphia - The Eagles are playing pretty decent football these days, with two big wins in a row. Cleveland has nothing going for it, and now doesn't have a real quarterback. This one should be ugly. Take the Eagles.
