NFL Office Pool Picks - Week 16
by T.O. Whenham - 12/18/2008

Things started of very ugly last week, but turned around in the end. We salvaged 11 wins, which is pretty solid given some of the bizarre outcomes last week. Let's see if we can do even better this week.

Indianapolis at Jacksonville - The Colts are playing to clinch a playoff spot, and Peyton Manning is playing for the MVP award. Jacksonville is playing for absolutely nothing. This should have been a great, classic game between two teams playing for the division title, but it's really, really not. Take the Colts.

Baltimore at Dallas - This is an important game for both teams. Dallas is finally playing well, they have been solid at home, and they are more talented on both sides of the ball. Baltimore will put up a good fight, but it won't be enough. Take the Cowboys.

Cincinnati at Cleveland - This is a game that just shouldn't be played. Neither team is any good, neither has a real quarterback at the helm, and neither has anything to play for. I would much rather not make a pick, but if that isn't a possibility then I'll just make an educated guess. Take the Bengals.

New Orleans at Detroit - The Saints have absolutely nothing left to play for, and they have the look of a team that has already packed it in. That's concerning, because a winless season would be so cool to see. Just because I don't want to jinx the chances of it, I'll go with New Orleans. Take the Saints.

Miami at Kansas City - The Dolphins are playing very well, and they are in the thick of the playoff chase. Kansas City is terrible, and they just want the season to end. Take the Dolphins.

Arizona at New England - The Cardinals haven't been very good on the road, they haven't been great against good teams, and they have nothing left to play for until the playoffs start. The Pats need a win badly to stay in the playoff hunt. This shouldn't be close. Take the Patriots.

San Francisco at St. Louis - Here's another one that really doesn't need to be played. The Rams have completely given up and are almost certainly the worst team in the league. The Niners are far from perfect, but they are much the better team here. Take the Niners.

Pittsburgh at Tennessee - The Titans have the better record, but they are far from the better team here. They have lost two of their last four, and they look pretty average. Pittsburgh, on the other hand, is playing extremely well, and may even be the best team in the league right now. They are also an exceptional road team, with six wins in seven tries. Take the Steelers.

San Diego at Tampa Bay - Tampa Bay is the better team in general, and they are much better at home than San Diego is on the road. The Chargers are theoretically still alive for the playoffs, but they haven't shown any desperation up to this point so why would they start now? Take the Bucs.

Buffalo at Denver - There are not two more unpredictable teams in the league. They can both be good when they want to and terrible when you don't want them to. Denver is in a much better place right now, so that means, unfortunately, that we have to trust them. Take the Broncos.

Houston at Oakland - Houston is playing as well as any team right now. Oakland is just waiting for the misery to end. Take the Texans.

N.Y. Jets at Seattle - The Jets aren't playing well, but they desperately need a win here, and I have to believe that even in their struggles they are more than good enough to beat the pathetic Seahawks. Take the Jets.

Philadelphia at Washington - Washington seems to be in a free fall, and they don't seem like they are having much fun. The Eagles are playing very well, and they know how badly they need this game. Take the Eagles.

Atlanta at Minnesota - Both teams need this badly. The Vikings are at home, they are playing well, Atlanta doesn't travel well, and the Vikings are more experienced. The loss of Pat Williams will hurt, but Minnesota still should have enough here. Take the Vikings.

Carolina at New York Giants - This is the battle for home field advantage through the playoffs. Of the two teams, Carolina is playing much better football right now. Eli Manning, one of the least deserving Pro Bowlers in history, is not playing well, and Carolina will be able to exploit and punish him. Take the Panthers.

Green Bay at Chicago - The Bears are still alive in the playoff hunt, but it's out of their hands. All they can do is win and hope. Green Bay is a mess, so Chicago should be just fine here. Take the Bears.
