NFL Office Pool Picks - Week 12

It's a new week, and that means that there are 16 more games for us to pick. We had a decent week last week, and we'll look to have a better one this week. Remember, the games are picked straight up, not against the spread:
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh - The Bengals are coming off of a rare tie last week, but that doesn't make them a good team. Pittsburgh won one of the most controversial games in recent memory. The Steelers have their issues, but they are at home, and they are by far the better team here. Take the Steelers.
Philadelphia at Baltimore - Neither team is in a good place. The Eagles couldn't beat the Bengals, never mind the Giants before them. Those same Giants beat up on the Ravens last week. Before those setbacks, the Ravens were the hotter team. They are at home, and they have a quarterback who doesn't look like he is 60. Take the Ravens.
Houston at Cleveland - The Browns didn't necessarily deserve to win in Buffalo, but they did. Brady Quinn hasn't been Superman, but he has been decent. Sage Rosenfels has been much less decent. Trusting Cleveland seems like a very bad idea, but the Texans are no better and they are on the road. Take the Browns.
San Francisco at Dallas - The Niners are coming off two good performances in a row, and may be on the road to salvaging a bit of pride. Dallas looked better last week than they have in a while, though Tony Romo's finger still causes a few concerns. Dallas is at home, though, and that gives them an edge - not that they necessarily need it. Take the Cowboys.
Tampa Bay at Detroit - Do we even need to talk about this one? Tampa Bay plays very good defense. Detroit doesn't. Tampa Bay has a good offense, especially when they pass. Detroit really doesn't. This one isn't going to be close. Take the Buccaneers.
Minnesota at Jacksonville - This one is a toss-up. Both teams have flaws, and both are well below where they were expected to be. The difference is that the Vikings are moving in a good direction, while the Jaguars aren't. Minnesota is tied for the lead in their division, so the stakes are high and motivation won't be a problem. The Jaguars have nothing to play for. Take the Vikings.
Buffalo at Kansas City - The Bills are in a free fall. Their defense isn't crisp, and their offense is making far more mistakes than would be acceptable. The Chiefs have some bright spots, but they weren't nearly good enough last week against the Saints. I don't really want to pick either team here, but since I have to - take the Bills.
New England at Miami - The Dolphins traveled to Foxborough and crushed the Patriots earlier this season. This game will be closer. The Patriots are dealing with a lot of injuries, and sooner or later that is going to catch up to them. Miami is strong at home, they are playing well, and they deserve to have a slight edge here. Take the Dolphins.
Chicago at St. Louis - The Bears have not played well the last two weeks. Thankfully they play the Rams this week - the best remedy for offensive problems there is. Three weeks in a row St. Louis has made their opponents look like all-World warriors. Take the Bears.
N.Y. Jets at Tennessee - I have to admit that the Jets are better this year than I gave them credit for. They won't go anywhere in the playoffs, but they will certainly be there. Tennessee obviously will be, too. This is a tough game for them, but their impressive defense will give the Jets fits. Take the Titans.
Oakland at Denver - The Broncos may be leading their division, but I don't have a lot of respect for them. I would have even less if they somehow found a way to lose to the Raiders at home. Oakland showed sparks of offense last week, and they could do even better against Denver's non-existent defense. Still, Denver is by far the better team. Take the Broncos.
N.Y. Giants at Arizona - A tough one to call. The Cardinals are hot, and Kurt Warner will be motivated to perform well against a former team. The Giants aren't necessarily winning pretty, but they are winning lots, and they are running very well. It will come down to which team can better assert their offensive strengths. As much as I don't like to, I have to give the edge to New York. Take the Giants.
Washington at Seattle - The Redskins are not playing well. They have lost two in a row. If they can't win this game then there is no hope for a playoff run for them. Seattle has lost three in a row, and they have looked bad doing it. Take the Redskins.
Carolina at Atlanta - Another tight game between good teams. The Panthers are the least respected 8-2 team we have seen in a long time. I don't think that is fair here. They are playing good defense, and they are running the ball well. They beat the Falcons handily the first time they played, and I like their chances of winning again. Take the Panthers.
Indianapolis at San Diego - The Colts are on the road to turning their season around after a lousy 3-4 start. They have won three in a row, and Peyton Manning has finally looked like Peyton Manning. Nothing about the Chargers has looked like it is supposed to. This should have been a great game, but it won't be. Take the Colts.
Green Bay at New Orleans - Both teams are just 5-5. Both teams are hanging on to respectability by a thread. Both teams can look really good or indescribably bad. What I am saying is that this one is a total toss-up. There is one difference I can see - the Packers are coming off a huge win, and they have covered the spread five games in a row. The Saints beat the Chiefs, but they didn't dominate, and they have only been beating weaker teams recently. Take the Packers.
