2024 College Football National Championship Futures Odds with Expert Betting Predictions
by Joey House - 1/9/2024
Even though the dust hasn't even begun to settle on Michigan's National Championship win, oddsmakers are looking forward to next season's college football season. This was the final season of the four-team playoff. And while it was an improvement over the original BCS format, this system was still quite flawed, as Florida State can attest to.
2024-25 Heisman Trophy Predictions with Betting Odds
by Joey House - 1/9/2024
In true sportsbook fashion, odds went up for the 2024 Heisman Trophy Award the day after LSU's QB Jayden Daniels exited the Downtown Athletic Club with this year's trophy. Now that we have concluded one of the transfer portal periods, let's take a way-too-early look at the odds for the field for the 2024 Heisman. All odds are courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook.
College Football Totals Picks Bowl Games: Over or Under Predictions for This Week
by Joey House - 12/28/2023
I know that many people complain about the over-saturation of bowl games, and they don't matter. I couldn't disagree more. First, they give teams an extra couple of weeks of practice and allow coaches to evaluate, under game conditions, players who will be replacing the leaving (or already left) starters. Just watch any of these games, and it's evident that they matter greatly to the players.
College Bowl Game Free Picks for Games from Dec. 29-Jan. 1
by Joey House - 12/28/2023
Just like the regular season, in the blink of an eye, we're halfway done with the bowl season and soon will start the long hibernation until college football again. Next season, with the expanded playoff format, at least we'll have another week or two of college football. We split our four games last week, going 2-2. We should be able to end the season in a winning fashion and build our bankroll for the upcoming NFL playoffs.
College Football Free Picks: Weekly Mid-Major Report and Predictions for Armed Forces Bowl featuring James Madison vs. Air Force
by Joey House - 12/21/2023
In the world of Joey, my non-stop advocating for James Madison's bowl appearance is what led the 11-1 Dukes to receive an invitation to the Armed Forces Bowl to take on Air Force. In reality, the lack of qualified teams allowed the NCAA to waive the restrictions placed upon newly promoted teams to the FBS level. However it happened, JMU has been afforded the opportunity to go bowling for the first time in school history.
College Bowl Game Free Picks for Games from Dec. 19-Dec 26
by Joey House - 12/18/2023
Welcome to the Doc's Sports Bowl Game Best Bets for the week of December 19 to December 26. We've analyzed all the games for the first whole week of the "Bowl Season" and identified the best side bets that should help you earn back some of the money you've spent on the holidays.
College Football Totals Picks Bowl Games: Over or Under Predictions for This Week
by Joey House - 12/18/2023
Assessing bowl games presents the most demanding challenge for a professional handicapper. Bowl games added a few significant aspects that must be factored in when breaking down a contest. While every team is trying to win, who emerges victorious is not always the most important priority for a team. Many coaches are looking to get a head start on the future and gauge talent levels for next season. Players opting out and entering the transfer portal, not to mention the start of the coaching carousel, are some factors that don't arise during the regular season.
Expert Bowl Game Handicapping: Geographical Advantages
by Joey House - 12/11/2023
One of the factors that goes into handicapping regular season football games is the home-field advantage. A Penn State "White-Out" can be so loud that the opposing offense either burns a time-out or gets flagged for delay of game. While bowl games remove advantages like that, they present different challenges with the location that must be considered. In this article, we'll look at some of these factors and how to use them to our advantage.
Expert Bowl Game Handicapping: Player and Coaching Uncertainty
by Joey House - 12/7/2023
In 2016, when LSU RB Leonard Fournette and Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey elected not to play in their respective bowl games, it was met with equal parts admiration and admonishment. The trickle of opt-outs each year has grown into a flood of players passing up the chance to play for their university one more time. Adding to this deluge is the first round of the transfer portal and players' widespread changing of teams. As if the missing players weren't enough, some coaches have taken better jobs elsewhere and may not be coaching their previous team over the holidays.

NCAA Football Predictions: Bowl Season Opening Line Report and Picks
by Joey House - 12/4/2023
Ninety-nine days. From the last Saturday in August to the first Saturday in December, that is how long the 2023 college football season journey took. This marked the final season of the Pac-12, and they went out in style, sending No. 2 Washington to the CFP and putting a total of eight teams in bowls, the most since 2017. This strong conference showing doesn't account for all the hype and excitement generated by head coach Deion Sanders and his Colorado Buffaloes. For all of you folks who may have rushed out to bet their updated win total of 5.5 after their hot start, sorry for your bad luck.
College Football Totals Picks Championship Week: Over or Under Predictions for Saturday
by Joey House - 12/1/2023
There was a lot of speculation about the new clock rule changes and how they would affect scoring. So, I compared the top 10 scoring teams from this season to the two since the COVID-19 season in 2020. What I found was interesting. In 2023, the average scoring of the ten best offenses produced an average of 46.4 ppg, and six teams averaged more than 40. In 2022, that average was 46.1, and again, six teams scored 40+ each game. 2021 the scoring was 40.8, and five teams averaged 40 or more points per game.
Weekly Public Action Football Betting Report with Predictions (12th Edition)
by Joey House - 11/30/2023
Welcome to the Public Action Report, where we track reverse line movements and try to find hidden value from conflicting betting patterns. Due to the abbreviated college schedule, we included any reverse line movements that met our criteria. If we have some new readers to the series, here is a brief explanation of what "reverse line movement" consists of.
NCAA Football Predictions: Championship Week Opening Line Report and Picks
by Joey House - 11/27/2023
Welcome to the Doc's Sports NCAA Opening Line Report, where we give you an early look at the upcoming week's essential games. I will also analyze the opening line of select games that caught my attention and briefly explain my initial lean. While "Rivalry Week" didn't produce many upsets (No. 10 Louisville and No. 19 Kansas State were the only Top 25 losses against unranked foes), the games were exciting nonetheless.
Weekly Public Action Football Betting Report with Predictions (11th Edition)
by Joey House - 11/24/2023
As interesting as writing the PAR this year has been, it's also been an incredible learning experience. After last week's record of 2-1 on the recommendations (remember, I couldn't in good conscience suggest Baylor and, for excellent reasons, losing 42-17 to TCU), the yearly tally of PAR picks comes to 18-15, a 54.5% winning percentage. As any handicapper worth their salt will tell you, anytime you finish in the black is a good campaign.
College Football Free Picks: Weekly Mid-Major Report and Predictions for James Madison Week 13
by Joey House - 11/23/2023
Welcome to Doc's Sports Mid-Major Report covering the James Madison University Dukes as they roll through the Sunbelt Conference in just their second year at the FBS level. This week's game against Coastal Carolina is the final game of the regular season, but hopefully not our last edition. Due to the ridiculous rules that exclude them from postseason play for the first two years, JMU is currently ineligible for the Sunbelt championship or a bowl game. However, there is a caveat that the Dukes could receive an invitation if there are not enough teams to reach bowl eligibility.
NCAA Football Predictions: Week 13 Opening Line Report and Picks
by Joey House - 11/21/2023
While there are a ton of flaws in the NCAA (stupid 2-year postseason restrictions for new teams pop into my head), one of the few things that N-C-Double-As#&oles get right is scheduling. I'm neither an OU nor Texas fan, but every October, I look forward to the Red River Rivalry. Ditto for the "World's Biggest Outdoor Cocktail Party," the annual game between Florida and Georgia. The NCAA schedulers thoroughly understand the "save the best for last" concept.
NCAA Football Betting: Fading the Top 25 Weekly Free Picks Week 12
by Joey House - 11/17/2023
Things are heating up with the second release of the College Football Playoff polls. In the final year of the 4-team format, there are currently five undefeated Power 5 teams. No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Michigan play each other next week, so one of those teams is guaranteed a loss, which fits perfectly for the CFP committee.
College Football Totals Picks Week 12: Over or Under Predictions for Saturday
by Joey House - 11/17/2023
Regrettably, it's been a few weeks since our last edition. We took a beating on those picks, losing 6.9 units. However, because of the beauty of Doc's "Unit Betting System," I've been able to maximize my strongest plays and still have a healthy profit for the season. With just two weeks before the postseason, we're positioning ourselves nicely for a big bowl season and a great all-around year.
Weekly Public Action Football Betting Report with Predictions
by Joey House - 11/17/2023
Welcome to Week 10 of the Public Action Report (PAR). Since there have been a couple of weeks since the last PAR, I'll go over what we are attempting to do. Typically, when the action is particularly one-sided in a game, we expect the odds for the favored team to get less attractive. Sometimes, we will see games when most of the bets are on one team, yet the odds move to make that team more attractive.
