NFL Week 15 Props: Will Terrell Owens Be Back with the Bengals?
by Richard Gardner | Bodog Sportsbook Manager - 12/17/2010
Well, I guess Terrell Owens couldn’t keep his mouth together forever. Not when the Cincinnati Bengals reach 2-11.
Asked by good pal and teammate Chad Ochocinco during "The T.Ocho Show" why he thinks the Bengals have turned into the Bungles, he had a few pointed comments to make.
"I think there's underachieving from the top down," Owens said. "You start with the owner, you start with the coaches. And obviously we as players, we are a product of what the coaches are coaching us throughout the course of the week.
"Of course, we have to go out there and play the game. But in order for us to do what we're allowed to do at the best of our abilities, the coaches have to put the players in the best position."
In other words, it’s all the coaches’ fault.
Hey, you can hardly blame the guy for being frustrated. Owens is doing his part with 983 yards receiving and nine touchdowns. But will his pointed comments spell the end of his career in Cincinnati?
We’ve set odds on whether or not he’ll be back as a Bengal on our NFL props board. The “Yes” option is at -120; the “No” option is the same (-120). So it’s a 50/50 proposition.
Perhaps because Owens is a free agent at the end of the season, most of the action so far has been on “No.” But it’s also worth noting that the coach Marvin Lewis’ contract is up at the end of the season as well, so maybe it’ll be Lewis that goes instead.
Speaking of coaches, there’s been a lot of discussion about former Steelers coach and current CBS analyst Bill Cowher’s future in the game. And for good reason.
"I'm open to listen to opportunities," Cowher told USA Today recently. "I'm very comfortable at CBS. I'll keep all my options open. And I'll only answer those questions at the end of the season. I'm not going to comment on any hypothetical situations until the entire season is over."
Sounds to me like he wants to coach again, but that’s just my opinion.
At Bodog, the favorite landing spot for Cowher is for him to remain at CBS (5/2), followed by coaching the Panthers (7/2), coaching the Broncos (9/2) and coaching the Texans (5/1).
Coaching Houston has been a popular choice for our bettors, since Gary Kubiak’s future with the Texans (5-8) is far from assured. Yes, Kubiak received a contract extension last year, but the fans have to be growing tired of their team’s persistent underachieving.
