Promising to once again deliver an alternative, live show for viewers eager to see a halftime program that's uplifting, the Bodog Lingerie Bowl III is set to blitz audiences on Super Bowl Sunday.
The 90-minute sports and entertainment extravaganza offers free admission to the L.A. Memorial Coliseum on February 5 for fans to watch Super Bowl XL on screen and experience the Bodog Lingerie Bowl in person. As it has done since its first pay-per-view scrimmage in 2004, the Bodog Lingerie Bowl will sack the competition while bringing gridiron excitement to a new level with supermodels playing full-contact football in lingerie, celebrity guest quarterbacks, a steamy lingerie fashion show with top musical performances, and surprises galore.
"No other Super Bowl-related programming has been as enthusiastically talked about, or has generated as much ink, as the Bodog Lingerie Bowl," states the event's creator/executive producer Mitch Mortaza, president of Horizon Productions. "This will be a tremendous breakthrough season that truly fulfills the promise of this event, giving in-person and pay-per-view audiences the halftime show they deserve without missing a minute of the Super Bowl - except, of course, for its own halftime show, which should be rated 'G' for generic, or maybe geriatric!"
"We are excited to take on title sponsorship of the Bodog Lingerie Bowl and we look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with Horizon," says the event's host, Bodog Founder and CEO Calvin Ayre. "With the hot players plus Dennis, Jenny and the other top celebrities expected to attend, the Bodog Lingerie Bowl is sure to be a highlight of Super Bowl Sunday."
In 2004, major media outlets speculated that the infamous Janet Jackson incident was a pre-planned stunt, with the L.A. Times asking, "Who knew the lengths the NFL would go to sabotage The Lingerie Bowl?" Meanwhile, NBC posited if "this 'spontaneity' was a carefully executed move to combat...people changing the channel in favor of The Lingerie Bowl, which itself generated enough interest to threaten the viewership of the most watched show in television."
This year, the third edition of the Bodog Lingerie Bowl may wind up being the most popular Super Bowl halftime show on television because of the power of its stars, beginning with the players themselves. The game will feature a duel between Eastern and Western champions, who will be determined the week prior on "Garter & Lace Championship Saturday". The Eastern final pits the New York Euphoria (quarterbacked by MTV personality Trishelle Cannatella ) against the Chicago Bliss (led by WWE diva Christy Hemme ). In the Western final, the two-time Lingerie Bowl champion Los Angeles Temptation (under Playboy's Miss April 2001 Katie Lohmann ) takes on the Dallas Desire (featuring pop star Willa Ford at quarterback). Of the more than 5,200 players who tried out, an elite 52 were selected to fill the rosters of the four teams. These players represent the most beautiful, athletic and fiercely competitive talents in lingerie football.
While celebrated Chicago Bears defensive lineman William "The Refrigerator" Perry will lend his football know-how as a coach, Bodog Lingerie Bowl III will also benefit from the presence of another incomparable sports legend, Dennis Rodman, who serves as Lingerie Football League Commissioner. With a savvy entertainment sensibility, Rodman has instituted new rules for the event, among them: Botox physicians will be stationed on the sidelines to ensure that players look their best at all times; all touchdowns must be accompanied by an end-zone dance, preferably involving a pole; and a Gatorade bath will be given to the winning team.
"Which would you rather watch at halftime? Aging rock stars or supermodels playing full-contact tackle football in lingerie?" asks the colorful Rodman, a five-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons. "With my guidance and rule changes, this year's Bodog Lingerie Bowl will be the biggest Super Bowl party in the world!"
Also headlining the festivities will be model/actress Jenny McCarthy and the Web's No. 1 downloaded model Cindy Margolis, who will provide color commentary. Ryan Starr of "American Idol" and model/actress Tamie Sheffield will serve as sideline reporters, while Fox Sports veteran Mike Goldberg calls the play-by-play action.
The pay-per-view event runs from 7:30-9 p.m. ET/4:30-6 p.m. PT, kicking off with the biggest tailgate party in the world - a warm-up celebration that will feature performances by Bodog Music artists, including Bif Naked, in the Bodog Experience Village outside of the L.A. Coliseum. The moment the whistle blows indicating halftime at the Super Bowl, a fashion show begins featuring the Bodog Lingerie Bowl's own "Fourth & G" lingerie line, accompanied by three songs by the event's chart-topping musical performers. Immediately following the concert, the two finalist teams will play and the winning squad will be honored in a trophy ceremony, all concluding before the second half of Super Bowl XL kicks off. Among the treats for fans is the Bodog Pit, where Bif Naked will play host to the most boisterous in attendance. Fans can get all the info they need at the official web site: LingerieBowl.com. Also, the online magazine BodogNation, which is published by Calvin Ayre, will feature extensive coverage of the game and the personalities involved in it.
