2023 PGA Picks: Butterfield Bermuda Championship Odds and Expert Betting Predictions

The PGA Tour is heading down to Bermuda after spending the past week in Mexico. The 2023 Butterfield Bermuda Championship will be played at Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton, Bermuda. This is an extremely weak field compared to the previous fall events. Defending champion Seamus Power is not in the field, so there will be no back-to-back winner this weekend. Major champion Adam Scott leads the field at 16-to-1 odds to be victorious.
There is also much more on the line in the fall for players looking to solidify their eligibility for the 2024 season. A victory during the fall will earn a two-year Tour exemption, 500 FedEx Cup points, entry to the season-opening Sentry and the Players Championship, as well as eligibility into majors that have invited Tour winners in the past. Doc’s Sports will break down the best bets for this upcoming week of golf below. Our fall selections have netted +2,905 profit heading into this event.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
Port Royal Golf Club measures at 6,828 yards long and plays as a par 71, making it one of the shortest courses on the PGA Tour. It features elevation changes throughout and windy conditions are the biggest challenge on this seaside course. The par 3s are also a challenge as three out of the four holes measure over 210 yards and rank as the three hardest holes on the course. The opposite can be said about the par 4s. Most players should have a short-iron approach into the green as the par 4s are the shortest on the entire PGA Tour.
Alex Smalley +2200
The Duke University product is a perfect fit for this course and is looking for his first career victory. He has tallied back-to-back top-12 finishes at this course the past two events. Smalley ranks second in the entire field at generating birdie opportunities, eighth in ball-striking in windy conditions, 13th around the green on Bermuda courses, and fifth in proximity 100-125 yards. I expect Smalley to break through this weekend and compete for his first career victory on the PGA Tour.
Brandon Wu +4000
Wu has a great reputation on the PGA Tour to excel on courses outside of the United States, except for Pebble Beach. Wu’s top finishes fit these criteria and if he is ever going to get a victory, it will be on a course like Port Royal. He has a third-place finish this past season at the Mexico Open. Wu also has a T2 in Mexico in 2022, while posting a T3 at the Puerto Rico Open that same year. Catch my drift? His numbers are nothing to brag about but he still ranks 22nd in SG: Total over his past 48 rounds. Put ½ a unit on Wu to beat this field.
Peter Malnati +7500
Malnati has finished 21st and 7th in his two starts at Port Royal for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. He has one top-11 finish this fall and has made two cuts. There is a bit of pressure on him as well, sitting at 122nd in the standings. He is an excellent putter, ranking 18th on the Tour for the entire season, and scrambles well. I am putting ½ unit on Malnati to surprise the competition with a victory on Sunday.
Golf Picks: Who to Consider This Week:
To win: Smalley, Wu (1/2 unit), Malnati (1/2 unit)
2023 season total: +2,905
