The Illinois Fighting Illini will face off with the Indiana Hoosiers in a first round matchup in the Big Ten Conference Tournament on Thursday. When looking back at the last time these two teams met up, we have to go back to Jan. 26 when the Hoosiers beat the Illini at home 56-46 in a defensive battle. The Hoosiers were led by Yogi Ferrell with 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and a steal. 15 of those points came in the second half of this game. Indiana also got a nice contribution from Stanford Robinson who tallied 10 points, five rebounds and an assist on the night.
It was a tough night for both teams from a shooting perspective. Illinois was 33.3 percent from the field and only 5-for-23 behind the arc, while Indiana was 40.8 percent from the field and only 3-for-12 from three point land. The bright side for the Hoosiers is they got the win while the Illini got their sixth straight loss. In the loss, Rayvonte Rice led Illinois with 20 points, four rebounds and a steal.
With under 13 minutes to go in this game, the Hoosiers were up 40-29 before the Illini went on a 10-2 run to close the gap to three. However, led by Ferrell, the Hoosiers went on a 6-0 run and then finished off the Illini with free throws.
