Tuesday night, the Spartans of Michigan State will square off against the Blue Devils of Duke University. Michigan State comes in at 1 - 0 while Duke brings a 2 - 0 record.
The Michigan State Spartans didn't have an easy time of it in their season debut against the Naval Academy Midshipmen and they barely escaped with a 64 - 59 win. Tom Izzo's Spartans might have underestimated the smaller Midshipmen and it showed. Even though the Spartans led 36 -29 at the half, they were outhustled at both ends by the Midshipmen. In the 2nd half, Michigan St. held on as Navy forced turnovers left and right. Along with the scare, Michigan State also lost guard Alvin Ellis III just 3 minutes into that game thanks to an ankle injury. There was no word on whether he would be available for the Duke game.
The Duke Blue Devils have opened the season in the same dominant fashion that college basketball fans have come to expect. After lighting up Presbyterian in their opener, they handed out a 109 -59 whipping to the Fairfield Stags in their last game. The Blue Devils spread the ball around they jumped out to a 44 - 30 lead at the half. The 2nd half featured more of the same as Fairfield served as a sparring partner for Duke. Duke shot the ball well and had a solid game all around but they will face a greater test against Michigan State. Tom Izzo will definitely have his Spartans up for this game and they will not let the Blue Devils push them around.
