Sergei Bobrovsky had 40 saves to help the Columbus Blue Jackets get passed the New York Rangers 4-3 the last time these 2 teams played. In a potent offensive game, the Rangers managed to drag it out to a shootout, but the Blue Jackets were able to hold on for the win.
Penalties were a downfall in the game for Columbus, giving the Rangers seven power-play chances in which they took advantages of two; one in the first and one in the third. Both power-play goals came at the hands of Rick Nash, who was traded to the Rangers for Brandon Dubinsky. Dubinsky made some noise of his own on the other side of the puck. He got the scoring started with the first goal of the game, late in the first. Then not two minutes later, in the last minute of the first, Nash got his power-play goal to tie things up going into the first intermission.
There were two Blue Jacket goals in the second, one by Cam Atkinson and the other by James Wisniewski. The third period would bring two more goals, but this time by the Rangers. Brian Boyle had one and Rick Nash on another power-play goal tied things up. After a long third period, the score would stand as a tie and with nothing changing in overtime the two teams went into a shootout. The shootout pitted Mats Zuccarello and Rick Nash up against goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, and neither player scored. On the other side, both Mark Letestu and Ryan Johansen had a shot at goalie Henrik Lundqvist, and both shooters scored giving the Blue Jackets the 4-3 win.
