The race for the top four positions in the Bundesliga is getting tense. The heat continues to rise between teams that occupy the top-four positions on the league table. One of the occupants, Borussia Dortmund, will be hosting league opponents Hertha Berlin in match day 30 of the German Bundesliga during the weekend.
Borussia Dortmund enters in the second position with 60 points, just two points ahead of RB Leipzig and four points ahead of fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen. Overall, Dortmund has won 18 matches out of 29 league matches played with 5 losses and 6 draws. Borussia Dortmund looks to extend their lead on the league table to secure a spot in the Champions League and must win the match to avoid dropping to the Europa League spot. However, both teams have an impressive start since the league’s resumption in May. Borussia Dortmund lost only one game out of 5 previous matches to the league’s defending champions last week.
During their last time out, Die Borussen recovered from their disappointing 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich and trashed SC Paderborn 6-1 last weekend, further consolidating their standing in the second position. During the brutal trashing, the first half of the match ended in a goalless draw. However, Thorgan Hazard scored an opener just nine minutes into the second half. Three minutes later, their super forward, Jadon Sancho, netted another goal to double their lead. Three incredible super goals came from Sancho to secure his first career hat-trick and his 17th league goal. The English forward is the team’s highest goal scorer and Bundesliga’s third-highest goalscorer, behind Robert Lewandowski and Timo Werner. Dortmund recorded 61% ball possession and 16 goal attempts.
Hertha Berlin, on the other hand, is not very easy to defeat as they go into the match with a six-game undefeated streak. The road teams are sitting in the 9th position on the league table with 38 points tied with SC Freiburg. Hertha has recorded 10 wins, 8 draws and 11 losses with -7 goal difference compared to SC Freiburg’s -3 goal difference. Hertha has had an impressive game stat lately, winning their last league match against Ausburg previous week. In their previous game, Javairo Dilrosun scored an opener for the host team in the 23rd minutes, beating the keeper from a close range after a rebound to end the first half with a 1-0 lead. However, after several goal attempts from both teams, Hertha Berlin’s Krzysztof Piatek sealed the lead in the last minute of the game. Hertha recorded 51% ball possession and 12 goal attempts in the match.
Haaland’s start in this game is still a doubt after missing last week’s game against SC Paderborn. However, Mats Hummels and Witsel could return to the starting lineup against Hertha Berlin on Saturday. Also, Jadon Sancho will start the game against Hertha Berlin.
Three of Hertha Berlin’s key players, including Kraft, Karim Rekik, and Niklas Stark, will be absent due to injury. Also, Ascacibar and Marius Wolf are ruled out. Krzysztof Piatek will start the game while the team’s defender Peter Pekarik will be holding Jadon Sancho at bay.
