NHL Totals Betting Advice: Hot and Cold Over and Under Teams 1/22/2026

With the Winter Olympics just a few weeks away, and the deadline approaching soon after that, all 32 teams are at a critical point in their season. We have seen Calgary and Vancouver choose to be sellers already, and we will likely see a few more teams join them in deferring to next season and beyond. Decisions like that factor into game totals with teams adding or subtracting offensive production. The Minnesota Wild were buyers early as they acquired Quinn Hughes, and his offensive boost has the Wild leading the league in overs for the last 10 games. Let’s see how moves like this have factored into teams seeing frequent overs or unders.

Over
Minnesota Wild 9-1
The Minnesota Wild have had high scoring games in nearly every contest over their last 10 games. They have seen four games, in this stretch, reach an overtime period. Unfortunately for them, the high scoring games have not correlated with wins as they are just 4-4-2 during this stretch. One clear reason is the tough stretch that goalie Jesper Wallstedt is having. On the year he has allowed just 2.71 GA/G, but over his last five starts he has allowed 4.4 GA/G. The offense has been much better during their current 10 game stretch as they have averaged 3.5 GF/G which is significantly higher than their 3.15 GF/G season average. Kirill Kaprizov has 12 points over this stretch, while Quinn Hughes has 14. It is worth noting that Joel Eriksson Ek and Matt Boldy recently hit the IR and Marcus Johansson is banged up and officially day-to-day. With a lot of their top point producers out, don’t expect this trend to continue.
New York Rangers 8-1-1
The New York Rangers play in a lot of low scoring games, and they have the second most amount of Unders in the league. However, they have seen a surge of high scoring games with the over hitting in eight of their last 10 contests. The biggest reason for this is the injury of Igor Shesterkin. He suffered a leg injury and is on the IR. In the eight games since his injury, the Rangers have allowed 5.25 GA/G. Jonathan Quick has lost his last six appearances and he has seen the over hit in five of those appearances. Their offense has seen an uptick in production as they have averaged 3.2 GF/G during this stretch, which is much higher than their 2.67 GF/G season mark. Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad have had solid seasons through the teams’ first 51 games, but the last place Rangers will need a lot more help on offense with Shesterkin’s lengthy absence.
Winnipeg Jets 8-2
The Winnipeg Jets have also seen the over hit in eight out of their last 10 games. Even with Connor Hellebuyck returning to the crease, the Jets have been playing in some high scoring games. They are 5-3-2 over their last 10 games and are close to exiting the Central Division basement. Hellebuyck has started eight games during this 10-game stretch and has allowed 3.38 GA/G during this stretch, which is much higher than his 2.71 GA/G season average. Despite the goalie struggles, the offense has actually been much improved in January. Over their last 10 games the Jets have averaged 3.6 GF/G, which is a significant jump in production as they are averaging just 2.98 GF/G on the season. The issue for the Jets is their depth. Mark Scheifele (61 points, 25 goals), Kyle Connor (58 points, 23 goals), Gabriel Vilardi (44 points, 19 goals), and Josh Morrissey (42 points, 10 goals) account for 52% of their team’s total point production and 53% of the total goals scored. After Morrissey’s 42 points, the next highest mark is Alex Iafallo who has just 19 points on the season. Don’t expect this trend to continue with their lowly depth paired with the return of their elite netminder.
Under
New Jersey Devils 3-7
It is no surprise to see the New Jersey Devils headlining this list of the most under performances over the last 10 games. They have seen the south side of the game total in 30 of their 50 games this season, the most in the NHL. They are 5-5 overall during this stretch and have seen the continuity of their inconsistent offensive performances. Over the first five games of this stretch, they went 1-4 while averaging 1.8 GF/G. Over the last five games, they have averaged 2.8 GF/G. The one consistent for the Devils is they are consistently playing low scoring games, but sometimes the offense can be really bad. The boost in offensive production, over the last five games, has been paired with elite goaltending from Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen. The two have allowed just 10 goals during the stretch. Keep taking the under when the Devils are playing.
Calgary Flames 3-6-1
The next team on the list are the Calgary Flames. They have seen the under hit in six of their last 10 games. This isn’t exactly a shock as the Flames have some of the worst offensive numbers in the league. They are averaging just 2.52 GF/G which ranks 31st in the league, and they have averaged just 2.0 GF/G over this 10-game stretch. The Flames just shipped Rasmus Andersson to Vegas in a move that is indicative of an impending seller’s mindset by the Calgary front office. As we near the deadline, expect the Flames to move more of their productive pieces elsewhere. Continue to expect low scoring games for the Flames, especially after the expected flurry of moves before the deadline.
Chicago Blackhawks 3-6-1
The Chicago Blackhawks have also seen the south side of the game total in six of their last 10 games. The Blackhawks are another team that struggles to light the red lamp consistently night in and night out. They are averaging just 2.71 GF/G, which ranks 26th in the NHL. After Connor Bedard, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Andre Burakovsky there are little to no depth pieces that are contributing. For the under’s sake, it also helps when you pair the abysmal offensive numbers with a guy like Spencer Knight who is dominating in the blue paint for the Blackhawks. Knight is allowing just 2.53 GA/G on the season and has a solid .913 SV%. Chicago is another team that will likely have a seller’s mindset, and they already rank fourth in the league for the most under performances. Continue to feed this trend.
