Rivers Portsmouth Casino Opens in Virginia Featuring BetRivers Sportsbook

Rivers Portsmouth will offer casino gambling and sports betting as the first permanent venue in Virginia. The BetRivers Sportsbook is part of the casino at has 1,448 slot machines, 57 table games and a poker room with 24 tables. The venue is just south of I-264 between Missy Elliott and Victory Boulevard.

However, there is going to be legal sports betting in the state on that day. Sunday, Jan. 1 marks Week 17 on the regular NFL season to kick off 2023 with a bang. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has Plans for Retail and Online Sportsbooks

Legal sports betting in Massachusetts has a launch date in late January on the retail level and early March for online sports betting. The state’s Massachusetts Gaming Commission addressed the matter in a public meeting on Thursday, Oct. 26. Boston-based DraftKings Sportsbook request for a universal launch date for the state’s retail and online sports betting was turned down. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission held firm on its original proposal.
Fanatics Plans to Launch its US New Sports Betting Division in January, 2023

Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin announced that the company will enter the US sportsbooks industry with the sports betting division early next year. Nevada gaming officials noted that the overall sports betting handle is up 28.1% verse 2021 through the first four months of the year. April’s trends did cool a bit with a lull in the sports betting calendar. Coming off a strong March fueled by college basketball, the state’s total sports betting handle slipped to $582.5 million.
