2023 LPGA Picks: Meijer LPGA Classic Odds and Expert Betting Predictions

The LPGA Tour heads to Michigan this week, and we will try and make it two weeks in a row with a winner. Hopefully last week you grabbed Ashleigh Buhai at 16-1 as she took home the trophy at the Shoprite Classic. A final round score of 65 and a birdie on 18 to win by one stroke over Hyo Joo Kim allowed us to cash our 16-1 ticket. The win last week also gave Buhai her first win on American soil and she is back this week looking for two wins in a row. Lydia Ko and Hyo Joo Kim headline the favorites this week at Blythefield Country Club. We will try and pick two winners in a row.

Course Characteristics of Those Who Can Win or Secure Winning Golf Bets
Blythefield Country Club was designed by William Langford and Theodore Moreau in 1929. It went through extensive renovations in 2020 by the hands of Chris Wilczynski that saw the fairways widened, green sizes restored, and rebuilt the bunkers to make them more imposing to the players. The course plays at par-72 and now measures at 6,638 yards. Even with the renovations, the course does not play that difficult overall with the average winning score of -19.1. This tree-lined course is also unique with five par 5s, three of which come on the back nine, five par 3s, and only eight par 4s. The most dangerous aspect of this course will be around the greens. Many are elevated and protected by a plethora of bunkers and run-off areas. Players will also have to deal with four-inch thick rough surrounding the fairways and greens. Players with strong ball-striking and tee-to-green have thrived here.
Ashleigh Buhai +2000
Buhai heads to Blythefield Country Club looking to win back-to-back events. I am throwing money on her due to her recent stellar play and the mispricing of 20-1 odds. She is fifth on the LPGA in strokes gained: approach and has been playing some of the best golf of her career. The 34-year-old currently ranks 12th in the Rolex Rankings and has six top-10s in 2023. The only knock is her lack of success at this course in the past. However, the way she has been playing recently, it is not unreasonable for her to pick up a win. Take Buhai at a disrespectful 20-1 odds.
Leona Maguire +2000
Maguire is a great bet this week strictly due to history at this course and the way she has been striking the ball lately. She has competed in this event twice, finishing in second place both times. Maguire heads to Michigan in great form, finishing third at the match play event and then finishing T7 at the Mizuho Americas Open. She has also climbed the ranks in total strokes gained through the past month and now sits at 24th heading into this weekend.
Minjee Lee +2000
This course fits Lee’s profile to a tee. She has been striking the ball well this year, ranking eighth in greens-in-regulation and eighth off-the-tee. Last year she was the 10th best scorer on tour on par 5s. And with five of them at BCC, she should find ways to score this weekend. Her game has found form recently as well with a 2nd place finish at the Founders Cup and a 13th place finish at the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National. Lee also has a decent track record at Blythefield, with three straight top-25 finishes. Grab her at 20-1 odds.
Jennifer Kupcho +3500
Kupcho has been playing well all year and can take advantage of the par 5s this week to win this event in back-to-back years. She has recorded four top-30 finishes, including a 2nd-place finish and playoff loss to Rose Zhang at Liberty National. The most appealing characteristic heading into Michigan is Kupcho’s par 5 and par 3 scoring. She currently ranks 11th this year in par 5 scoring and 28th in par 3 scoring. Kupcho is worth backing at 35-1 odds as she tries to become the first back-to-back winner in the history of the Meijer LPGA Classic.
