The New York Yankees will continue their current 10-game West Coast swing this Tuesday night with Game 1 of a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:05 p.m. (ET), and the game will be available on MLB Extra Innings.
The Yankees kicked off this extended road trip out west by taking two out of three games from Seattle this past weekend. They are now 37-26 overall and 18-13 on the road this year, with the total staying “under” in five of their last six games. They are currently a game and a half behind Boston for the lead in the AL East.
Oakland lost the final two games of a four-game weekend series against the Chicago White Sox, but it is still 7-3 in its last 10 games and just a half a game behind Texas for first place in the AL West at 38-27. The Athletics are 18-10 at home this season, and the total has stayed under in eight of their last 10 games.
Yankees at Athletics Betting Storylines
New York continues to battle through a myriad of injuries throughout its roster to remain ranked fourth in the American League in pitching with a team ERA of 3.62, but it is ranked 12th in the AL hitting with a .245 team batting average. Robinson Cano remains the big bat with 40 RBI and 15 home runs. However, the Yankees as a team are averaging four runs a game, which is ranked 11th in the league.
Look for staff ace CC Sabathia to be on the mound for this series opener. The left-hander is coming off a complete game against Cleveland in which he allowed four earned runs on seven hits to get the win. He is 6-4 this season in 13 previous starts with an ERA of 3.74. Sabathia gave up two earned runs on eight hits in six innings against the A’s in early May, and he is now 8-9 with a 4.50 ERA against this team overall.
The Athletics continue to keep pace with Texas in what has become a two-team race for the division title. Its pitching has been steady all season long with a 3.74 team ERA that is ranked fifth in the AL. At the plate, Oakland has been equally as effective with an average of 4.65 runs a game that is also ranked fifth in the league. Josh Donaldson has already hammered in 42 RBI while hitting nine balls out of the park. This team has a total of seven players with 20 or more RBI on the year.
Bartolo Colon is set to get the start for the A’s on Tuesday night. The right-hander comes in with a 7-2 record that includes four straight wins in which his ERA is a ridiculous 0.90 over 30 innings of work. Overall, he has a 3.14 ERA and WHIP of 1.09 in 12 starts this year. Lifetime, Colon is 3-7 against New York with a 6.84 ERA.
Yankees at Athletics MLB Betting Odds and Trends
The Yankees are 7-1 in Game 1 of their last eight series and 6-2 in their last eight games against a team with a winning record. The total has stayed under in four of their last five games following a win.
The A’s are 8-0 in the first game of their last eight series and 4-0 in their last four starts against a left-handed starter. The total has stayed under in eight of their last nine games at home.
Head-to-head in this matchup, the home team has won seven of the last 10 meetings, and the total has gone “over” in three of the last five games. New York lost two of three against Oakland at home earlier in the year and is 0-4 in its last four road games against this team.
Yankees at Athletics Picks and Betting Predictions
Both starters come into this matchup in solid form, so runs should be hard to come by through the better part of this game. In the end, bank on Oakland coming out on top as it chips away at the Yankees bullpen to grab the early edge in this series with the win.
