The Calgary Flames will try to pull off an early-season upset when they visit the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. In three games last season, the Blues won two games to take the season series.
Left wing Mason Raymond had a hat trick for Calgary on Thursday to help them beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 on the road. The Flames were 1-for-2 on their power-play chances in the game and they sealed the win with three third-period goals.
Raymond now leads the Flames with his three goals and he is a plus-1 on the season. Center Joe Colborne has four assists and is a plus-4 through two games, while Jiri Hudler has two goals and an assist. Goalie Karri Ramo is 1-0-0 with a very good .950 save percentage in one start for Calgary.
In their opening game of the season, the Blues played the New York Rangers at home and ended up losing 3-2. They had five opportunities on the power play in the game, but they failed to put the puck in the back of the net on any of those chances.
One player who played very well in that opening game for the Blues was left wing Jaden Schwartz, who scored one goal and assisted on another. Netminder Brian Elliott was only able to stop 22 of the 25 shots he faced in the loss for a .880 save percentage.
