Sunday afternoon, the Detroit Red Wings will take the ice at the First Niagara Center as they take on the Buffalo Sabres.
The Detroit Red Wings started out hot in their Friday night game against the Los Angeles Kings and they rode that quick start to a 5 -2 win. Right out of the gate, the Red Wings took advantage of a tired Kings team. With a four goal flurry in the 1st, Detroit entered the 2nd up 4 – 0. After the initial shock wore off, the Kings scored the only goal of the 2nd to cut the lead to 4 – 1. Los Angeles opened the 3rd with their 2nd unanswered goal but they were too far back to rally. Detroit’s Pavel Datsyuk scored his 2nd goal of the night to close out the 3rd and put a cap on the win. Detroit will have another chance to take advantage of a potentially tired team on Sunday.
The Buffalo Sabres will come into this one after playing the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh on Saturday night. That quick turnaround from a Saturday night game on the road to a Sunday afternoon home game will be tough even though it is a relatively short trip from Pittsburgh to Buffalo. The Red Wings benefitted from the Penguins softening up the Kings and there is the potential for the Pens to wear down the Sabres as well. The Sabres aren’t the same caliber as the defending Stanley Cup champion Kings and a slightly rested Red Wings team will be nothing to look forward to.
