Friday night, the Nashville Predators will take the ice at the MTS Centre as they face the Winnipeg Jets.
The Nashville Predators have been quite a surprise early in the new season. Nashville lost their last game 3 - 2 in a shootout against the Calgary Flames but it was Nashville’s first loss. In Tuesday night’s game against the Flames, the Predators opened the scoring in the 1st period but Calgary tied the game going into the 2nd. After Calgary took a 2 -1 lead, Nashville responded with a goal to tie it up after 2 periods. Without any scoring in the 3rd period and the overtime period, the game came down to a shootout. Calgary was the victor in the shootout but the effort displayed by Nashville can’t be ignored. The Predators will look to show the same heart against the Jets.
The Winnipeg Jets were grounded in their last game nearly a week ago. Last Sunday, the Jets faced the defending Stanley cup Champion Los Angeles Kings. The Kings haven’t started the season on a high note but you couldn’t tell that by the way that they outclassed the Jets. Los Angeles opened with 4 straight goals over the first 2 periods and by the time Winnipeg scored late in the 2nd period, the game was virtually over. Hopefully, the 4 -1 loss could serve as a wakeup call for the Jets. Even early in the season, the lack of scoring and the ineffectiveness on the power play have to be fixed now before they become too big a problem to fix.
