On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins will face off in a game that will feature two of the better offensive teams from last season. Boston won all three of their games against Philadelphia last season.
The Flyers had a bit of a down year last season by finishing with 94 points and being ousted by the New York Rangers in the first round of the playoffs. Their top player was center Claude Giroux, who led the team with 86 points. Steve Mason was solid in net all season and finished with a 1.97 GAA.
The Flyers' front office didn't do much to improve their team over the offseason. They lost Scott Hartnell and the only players they added were center R.J. Umberger and veteran defenseman Michael Del Zotto.
The Bruins led the NHL in points with 117 last season, but they were knocked out of the playoffs by the Montreal Canadians in the second round of the playoffs. Goaltender Tuukka Rask had 36 wins last year and finished with a .930 save percentage. Veteran defenseman Zdeno Chara had 17 goals and 23 assists.
One thing that the Bruins have plenty of is depth, so it's not too surprising that they chose not to add any new players over the offseason. Two players who moved to other teams were Jarome Iginla and Johnny Boychuk.
